12 year old and noticed this. It looks like a patch. I’m really worried. I will speak to GP on Monday

That unusual, seemingly spontaneous bruising, along with the nosebleeds, needs investigating. Please take her to the GP. These posters saying it's 'dirt' and that you're overly anxious - words fail me.

charabang · 06/01/2024 00:24

give it a scrub, wait a week then see if it's still there.

Jingleballs2 · 06/01/2024 00:49

I really wouldn't worry just yet! It's either a dirty mark or a small bruise that should go away in a few days, give it time before freaking out. I'm having nosebleeds too as I do every winter with the dry air/colds, it's common

Ohdearohdearohdea · 06/01/2024 00:50

Just take her to the pharmacy and they will advise if she needs to see a gp or not. Seems bizarre you would jump straight to thinking its skin cancer.

AuntMarch · 06/01/2024 00:54

Has she started her periods? Nosebleeds apparently not unusual a bit before that (based on what my mum was told 25 years ago mind)

TheShellBeach · 06/01/2024 01:05

What made you think this was skin cancer?

LauderSyme · 06/01/2024 01:18

I think being really worried is unnecessary as it looks unlikely to be anything serious. Obviously I hope I'm right about that.

For an embarrassingly long time I thought teen ds had a scaly sort of rash on his neck. Turned out to be muck 😳

SingingSands · 06/01/2024 01:50

My DD had similar at aged 12/13 I think. It honestly just needed a good scrub with a flannel. Doctor said it was a mild fungal infection and gave her some cream. She used it once, but it had mostly cleared up after a proper scrub. I remember my friend at school had the same thing at about the same age, it's probably just changing hormones and skin producing more sebum.

Falkenburg · 06/01/2024 02:03

Witch Hazel on a cotton pad will remove imbedded grime.

Tighginn · 06/01/2024 02:09

Stretch mark, period of rapid growth.

demonheed · 06/01/2024 02:14

It's just muck...you're going to the GP about it?

Magien · 06/01/2024 09:13

It doesn't look like much from the photo but then again bruises don't usually look as bad in photos as they do in real life so I can imagine that it's probably clearer in person. If you don't have general health anxiety, I'd say trust your instincts and get it checked, especially along with the nosebleeds. Yes it could be coincidence but then a doctor who knows better might think it's not and offer a blood test or similar to say for sure.

liveforsummer · 06/01/2024 09:15

I think it's a build up of skin in some small creases. Try some baby oil to gently remove it

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 06/01/2024 09:16

I vote for grubby neck!

LonelynSad · 06/01/2024 15:31

That is not dirt. I think k some posters are being deliberately obtuse. If it's still there by say, Tuesday then maybe ask to see the Nurse Practitioner at your GP surgery. That way you're not taking a GP appointment but still seeing someone who can prescribe or refer if needed.
I'm horrified at those saying that it cannot be cancer or anything serious because she's a child!? Anyone can get anything at any age! Just because something is rare, doesn't make it impossible....

Yes, in the meantime OP,
Get her to exfoliate the area, so if it is dye from new clothing, or general dirt, or eczema creating a dry patch that dirty clinging to, you'll have a chance to figure it out...
Having a check to see if it does indeed disappear before the GP surgery reopens on Monday could bring peace of mind a bit earlier..
