AIBU to be a bit annoyed by this?

I bought a pair of shoes in May that cost nearly £300 - I was very hesitant to buy them as they were expensive but they are very different and I had just got my bonus from work so treated myself.

I have just come across the same pair of shoes on Selfridges and the retailers website for £89! Not in the sale either - they are now £89 just at retail price?!

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and definitely not the end of the world... but I've just never seen that happen - if it was a sale price I'd understand more but it's not. I just find it a bit cheeky tbh! Moral of the story I guess is that no shoe is worth 100s of pounds 😂

You don't have or give all the facts. Where did you buy them from? Are they reputable? You may have bought an expensively crafted shoe with top quality leather last May? Did you? That shoe may not have sold enough to justify the price tag. The manufacturers and designers may have created a second model with cheaper materials to run through on mass production. Only you will know whether you've bought a shoe that you will treasure and look after, or a shoe that will fall apart after a dozen times wearing it. Your shoe just might be a lot higher quality than the £89 pair. But I'd write to Selfridges and ask - in the same tone as your post. You'll get a reply. And then you can tell us!

It happens: You win some. You lose some.

Maybe next week you'll come across a fantastic bargain in the sales.

Robotik · 07/01/2024 20:16

Show me the shoes please op I love shoes!

Wexone · 07/01/2024 20:30

really ? I buy alot of expensive shoes (sorry not sorry its my weakness) and it's very very unusual for a huge discrepancy in price across different shops. I also do alot of looking at second hand websites aswell so fully aware of the prices they should be. this does not sound right at all. can you elaborate more of the type of shoes brand and price

300 quid on a pair of shoes
They seen u coming a mile off for definate
More money then sense if u willing to pay that much for one pair of shoes you are hesitant about my word

everyone is entitled to spend their money on what they want. it's hard earned and if that's what they want to do let them on no judgement 💯

fuckssaaaaake · 07/01/2024 20:40

@Wexone, you did well to translate that post to be fair. I'm still not sure 😂

This comment makes you sound rude and judgemental. The grammatical and spelling errors make you sound like a moron.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 07/01/2024 20:45

I couldn't spend that much on one pair of shoes (£100 for a decent pair of boots that will last me years and worn all the time maybe, £300 I can't justify).

BUT

I would be miffed if I'd spent £300 on something I could justify to myself and then they were £89 quite soon after.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 07/01/2024 20:57

@Concannon88 You're going to miss out on a lot of very interesting and intelligent people if you assume that poor grammar and spelling = moronitude.

Amplissimo · 07/01/2024 21:15

YANBU, I would be pissed off.

But if you love the shoes and they were worth £300 to you... well, you still have a pair of really great shoes and you will probably get £300-worth of enjoyment out of wearing them. I've never regretted buying a thing I really loved. That amount is not unreasonable for a pair of great shoes.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 07/01/2024 21:18

Op - if you lived the shoes and enjoyed them then money well spent.

Jeannie88 · 07/01/2024 21:26

That's why I don't buy those sort of price shoes! I would have to walk away and reconsider then look for them on different sites. We all learn lessons during the course of life...

Wow!!!!
A lot going on there.

Does make me laugh "free shipping" when you're spending £1k + on a pair of sandals.
Gee thanks!

Free ‘express’ shipping lol. Might sway me 😂

Tombero · 07/01/2024 23:46

Have you checked there in your size! Just wondered if they had reduced the retail price to shift odd sizes they have left?

premiur · 08/01/2024 08:28

@Concannon88

This comment makes you sound rude and judgemental. The grammatical and spelling errors make you sound like a moron.

Your second sentence ensures you are the only 'rude, judgmental moron' not the poster you were trying to shame.

GirlsAndPenguins · 08/01/2024 08:59

Tbf I’d have googled the item in the shop. Then you would have known if it was cheaper elsewhere at the time. I do this with anything of around £20 and above, takes seconds.

She’s not asking for peoples opinions regarding how much she chooses to spend on things. That is her business and does not affect anyone but her

PearlyShamps · 08/01/2024 11:46

If I ever see something I like at that kind of price, I always shop around online to see if I can find it cheaper elsewhere.

You are not being unreasonable to be annoyed at being ripped off, but were unreasonable to have not shopped around before making such a large purchase. You live and learn, and hopefully will be more savvy in future.

If you thought they were worth £300 then, then you obviously loved them... I hope this doesn't ruin your enjoyment of them, and that you feel fantastic when you wear them :0)

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 08/01/2024 11:47

Some rude people on this thread. In fact, one or two seem rather jealous that someone has £300 to spend on shoes 🙄
YANBU. It shows how ridiculous the mark up was. But I’d probably do a bit of online research before spending a chunk. Take a quick picture of the brand name / style / model number next time.

PearlyShamps · 08/01/2024 11:49

The OP said they'd not been reduced to £89, but that was their regular price, both at Selfridges, and at the brand's own store. I think this is what has annoyed OP - she was ripped off in the first place.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 08/01/2024 11:58

I would love more info. I've been on the website, refined by price and women's. The majority at £89 are showing as reduced(ie in red, previous prices showing, none were £300).

The few that aren't are trainers or Kurt Geiger which, even with my can't knowledge of higher ene footwear, I know would be unlikely to be worth £300, ever, so...?
