I can see the transferable skills! 😂 Good to know there are other jobs out there that can be enjoyable.

I moved to private tutoring. Best move I ever made. I work from my own home. I only do evenings but there's a large international market if you're willing to do online. Homeschool tutoring is also a day time option - although it's hard to break into and not always as well paid per hour, unless you do small groups.

My DM moved from being a TA to being a prison officer...did not miss a beat 🤣

I work for probation too as a programme facilitator. Even my most stressful week is not a patch on a standard week in teaching.

I felt like you did after only 6 years in teaching. It was killing me.

If you’re on Facebook, there is a group for teachers about leaving with lots of hints and tips for alternative roles, support for CV writing and videos about how much pay you can drop realistically.

I’ll see if I can link the video here.

Residential support worker for children's services.
You have transferrable skills and would not be entry level.

JanetandRita · 04/01/2024 08:43

Education coordinator /manager /officer for a charity?

southchinasea · 04/01/2024 08:57

I tutor now, after 25 years as a primary school teacher. I really love it - being able to go at each child's pace and giving the targeted support that you don't always have time to give in the classroom. It's amazing being away from school politics and I have time to go for a lunchtime walk, swim or exercise class. I work around two thirds of the hours and earn two thirds of my ups salary, by choice - if I wanted to do more I could add daytime hours tutoring for the local council or do more weekend private work. There is a really helpful Facebook group Twinkl private tutors as well as the great group mentioned above.

YellowRoses100 · 04/01/2024 08:59

Error. You need to retrain to be a social worker.

I would really think whether you want to leave Teaching fully
I left Social work after 23 years last year and took on a different role. But I've missed it and I'm going back at Easter. Can you just take a break?

BoomBoom70 · 04/01/2024 09:08

Would you be interested in teaching overseas? Very rewarding both professionally and financially.

2024namechange · 04/01/2024 09:13

I was a teacher up until 2020 when I started working for the LA Education Directorate. Lots of different roles available - speciality teacher, other SEN roles, school improvement, virtual school, strategy. I have been promoted since.

Good work/life balance, very flexible with WFH and largely ex teachers. Has the bonus of working with schools which reminds you why you left so you do feel grateful!

LolaSmiles · 04/01/2024 09:14

I know a lot of people who left teaching and went self employed in areas linked to education where they could use their knowledge and skills in a way that was valued.

ElaineMBenes · 04/01/2024 09:20

I transferred from teaching to this job too. You do have to complete a Level 3 Diploma within 2 years of starting the work. I also struggle at Christmas time, in particular, as shifts continue through the festive period. I realised how used I'd got to having 2 weeks off at this time of year. Some respite/short breaks homes do close for a couple of days at Christmas though.

TizerorFizz · 04/01/2024 09:32

Remember self employed people are fully responsible for their own pensions. You don’t just need equivalent earnings, you need to think about pension too. Pension payments to make the equivalent if a teacher’s pension will be huge as you need to cover the state contribution. So you will need to earn a lot more!

BCBird · 04/01/2024 09:32

I plan to go at 55. Like teaching but can't stand the frenetic pace. Holidays do not make up for it. Need to work yo supplement my pension. Watching this with interest

TizerorFizz · 04/01/2024 09:34

Social work doesn’t close for holidays either! It’s also really hard and very miserable at times in poorly run services. Be careful what you jump into.
