To think that these parents are just a bunch narcisstic show offs!

These events happened at DTS nursery last week.

Parent 1 dropping off child at nursery with a brand new expensive lap top in tow because child cannot bear to be parted from it. Child is 18 months old. Nursery nurse and other parents look at the father as if he is from the planet Dork.

Parent 2 drops off 3yo DS and stipulates loudly for all to hear that he must not get his new Armani trousers dirty because they cost over £50!

AIBU to think that only insecure people behave like this? I really don't care what other people have or how much they can spend but for some reasons, these two really got under my skin.

Breathe, breathe, breathe......

lucyellensmum · 17/03/2008 14:27

wankers - who would buy armani trousers for their child to wear to play school? pmsl

mumblechum · 17/03/2008 14:28

YANBU.

How very odd these parents sound.

cornsilk · 17/03/2008 14:28

Idiots.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/03/2008 14:28

ROFL @ sending toddler to nursery in Armani trousers! So the nursery is meant to do what..... not let the child play outside or do painting?

(They wear overalls at my dcs' nursery for messy play etc but still come back mucky )

edam · 17/03/2008 14:29

Silly sods. I do hope a small child peed on the laptop and the little boy in Armani enjoyed some very messy play!

Never mind Armani for a 3yo, what about Laptop for an 18mnth old? Either child is a genius or the parents are stark raving bonkers and attention seeking nutters.

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:31

Ooh spokette I've got a good one .

Mother arrived at pre-school pick-up with two nannies in tow, each of whom was carrying a mini Louis Vuitton handbag. Twins of said mother appear and each nanny gives child a handbag.

Mother then passes her own handbag (Kelly) to bodyguard leaving her own hands free to hold one hand of each twin.

scampadoodle · 17/03/2008 14:32

I've always wondered who buys expensive clothes for their small DCs...

Heated · 17/03/2008 14:33

Yuk.

Nouveau riches? Social upstarts? Breeding shows y'know.

Heated (old money)

scampadoodle · 17/03/2008 14:33

x-post Anna - my god, where was that???!

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:34

What do you all think about having an Orla Kiely nappy bag!? I always think ah ffs when I see that. Own up girls?!

Are you the one I'm rolling my eyes at?

barnstaple · 17/03/2008 14:35

yanbu. Those two will be the first up against the wall, and their kids will be reprogrammed...

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:36

scampadoodle - at my daughter's pre-school here in Paris .

Said family is from the Gulf and mega rich. Mother has new fur coats and handbags from most expensive shops almost daily it seems...

Troutpout · 17/03/2008 14:36

wanktastic!

spokette · 17/03/2008 14:37

Anna, that is just so sad!!

Glad it is not just me then who has to witness this anal behaviour.

The same mother of the 3yo with Amani trousers always brings in a large box of expensive toys for him to play with because the nursery's toys are not good enough. The funny thing is, is that he never plays with them and she accuses the staff of restricting his access to his toys. The fact that he wants to play with the other children does not compute with the silly moo!

perfectly possible to keep a three year old's armani trousers clean at nursery. You cling film said child from chest to ankles. If you have a good technique, child can even move legs. DO you people know nothing?

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:38

If I saw a two year old in a fur coat I'd have to spill some Tipp-Ex on it. I would jsut feel the urge.

PortAndLemon · 17/03/2008 14:38

Trousers v v odd.

Laptop may be just a bit PFB rather than narcissistic show offery -- 18 month olds do get oddly attached to random items and want to take them to nursery, and some parents not so good at saying "NO, you can't take it to nursery" (and to be fair in many cases there isn't a good reason not to take random object to nursery, but I don't think laptops fall into that category).

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:40

spokette - I think it's a little disconcerting at first but now I just take it as part of the spice of life and rather look forward to the next episode of the soap opera.

PortAndLemon · 17/03/2008 14:40

Am assuming it is parent's laptop in which DC has developed unhealthy interest, rather than DC's laptop, of course.

spokette · 17/03/2008 14:40

Amani woman is taking her 3yo DS out of nursery now anyway and sending him to an exclusive prep school because he is bored and not learning anything because he still can't read.

I feel so sorry for him.

FFS.
they are all stark staring mad.
why doesnt nursery tell them to get a reality check??
if i was running nursery no way would i accept any responsibility for bunch of toddlers with a laptop. i wouldnt ALLOW stoooopid parents to leave child with a laptop. would also ensure armani trousers ruined as matter of principle. like i said FFS!
