To think that these parents are just a bunch narcisstic show offs!

These events happened at DTS nursery last week.

Parent 1 dropping off child at nursery with a brand new expensive lap top in tow because child cannot bear to be parted from it. Child is 18 months old. Nursery nurse and other parents look at the father as if he is from the planet Dork.

Parent 2 drops off 3yo DS and stipulates loudly for all to hear that he must not get his new Armani trousers dirty because they cost over £50!

AIBU to think that only insecure people behave like this? I really don't care what other people have or how much they can spend but for some reasons, these two really got under my skin.

Breathe, breathe, breathe......

I hope the boy who brought the kylie perfume in knows all the dance moves to "i'm spinnning around, move out of my way-ay".

Gucci gold pants for that boy.

I started laughing when I read this but now I really feel quite sorry for those children.

My children wore hand-me-downs until they were about 3. They still would if my nephew and niece hadn't moved country.

Carmenelectra no slebs as far as I know, just too many parents with more money than sense. I think a lot them view their off-spring as accessories and an extension of their over-inflated egos.

Toffeetoes, the laptop was brand new internet ready laptop by Dell! Definitely costs a couple few thousand pounds - hence why daddy had to show it off.

Another cringeworthy incidence from a few months ago was a mother speaking loudly to one of the junior nursery nurses about how their 4 bedroom 3 reception detached house with ensuite bathroom, large garden and double garage was not big enough for her, her DH or their two children (at the time age 2 months and 3yo). They were looking to buy a much bigger property in the country but then she needed to think about schools for the boys because the public school she has earmarked would not accept her DS until he was 7yo so she needs to find something suitable until then. Why was she spouting this to an 19yo low paid nursery nurse who still lives with her parents and siblings in a terrace house? Don't these people know when to shut up and show a little humility? Grrrr!

I told DH and he said that I should have bigged up our mid-terrace house and waxed lyrical about the state primary schools to which we would like to send our DTS.

Bloody Hell! How strange.

newgirl · 19/03/2008 11:27

i think those parents sound really daft

however, i do think that sometimes these clothes just need to get worn. I saved my dd's nice clothes for special occassions and they just never got worn. They have gone off to the nct sale now but i do thin how stupid. if you get given/buy nice things - put the kids in them nursery or whenever

GColdtimer · 19/03/2008 11:33

ffs what is the world coming too. those poor kids, they are going to grow up to be spoilt little brats.

Peapodlovescuddles · 20/03/2008 14:43

Well clearly armani trousers mum wasn't THAT wealthy as she had to ask the nursery to keep them clean. If she was MEGA rich then they could easily be replaced

BearMama · 20/03/2008 17:05

Hmm dont know about that Peapod- she sounds barmy enough just to want a reason to tell the world her child's wearing Armani!

Expelliarmum · 20/03/2008 18:02

How vulgar! One should always rattle one's jewellery discreetly! Arf arf!

NiftyNanny · 20/03/2008 19:39

Mmmm when I worked in a nursery one little boy had a delay with his fine motor skills...

strangely enough he didn't like going near messy play or paint as he'd been told off for getting his designer clothes dirty.

We tried to encourage him but he had such a fear of getting messy he just didn't feel comfortable so we'd have to do other things with him like pencils, beads etc. and push him towards those. Imagine missing out on all the paintings he could've brought home!

How sad!

Nina2 · 20/03/2008 20:37

Who or what is Orla Keilly?

Quite rightly, I'll be shunned when ds starts Nursery for being so thick and out of touch !

PussinFabergeEggs · 20/03/2008 20:42

She is a fashion designer....has a lovely range of weekend away bags in Debenhams.......

Am that people are calling Armani chav...I've just bought Armani frames!!

PussinFabergeEggs · 20/03/2008 20:43

bubblepop · 20/03/2008 20:46

arfishy · 20/03/2008 21:11

LOL all of the children at DD's pre-school wore Ralph Lauren and Fred Bare (v.expensive Aussie Designer).

Now DD is at school we went to a birthday party. One of the other mothers, in sympathising about a fellow mother's dilemma in having her parents come to live with her, asked if they had another wing in their they could use. I snorted and I don't think I should have .

Said mother then held a $2000 party for her DD the following week. I kept meaning to start a thread about it I was so
