Crying - please help with floor grouting

Hi. I have just bought a new house (first time buyer). Spent more than I can afford (well close to) on a brand new kitchen. We went for limestone effect porcelain tiles (matte).

Ive had to be without my karcher for two months - got lost in the move. Full disclosure we have 2 golden retrievers. I’ve done my best with the flash speed mop but the floors have been trashed.

Gave it a good clean but the grout looks
disgusting still. I’ve told DH not to walk the dogs in the woods but he has ignored me. Dh has called me not to get fixated.

How can I get them back? Do I need to regrout?

Post a photo, just want to see if they are similar to mine

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 03/01/2024 13:44

Have you tried pink stuff paste with a supersonic scrubber?

Lovetheriff · 03/01/2024 13:45

Your dogs need the woods. You can bleech the grout or if you regrout go for grey!

SgtJuneAckland · 03/01/2024 13:45

HG grout cleaner and a brush, this kind not a toothbrush

What colour is the grout?
Unfortunately light grout does get discoloured easily it's really not worth getting too upset over though.
Pink stuff scrubbed I. With a toothbrush can help but it's a thankless job when it's just going to get dirty again

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 03/01/2024 13:47

You can get grout touch up pens in b&q.
Replace your "d"h with one that listens to you.

Flickersy · 03/01/2024 13:49

You have a very odd definition of "trashed".

I think you mean "slightly stained".

If it's bothering you that much, redo the grout or get a touch up pen / bleach.

Prawncow · 03/01/2024 13:50

The grout can be sorted.

As the dogs aren’t going anywhere and they will get dirty, do you have an outside tap? You can get it changed to a mixer tap and hose off the dogs before they come in. Get a quote from a plumber.

SgtJuneAckland · 03/01/2024 13:51

Our bathroom fitter said not to use bleach on grout because it will eat away at it and makes it easier to stain over time

AgentProvocateur · 03/01/2024 13:51

You can’t have white grout and dogs. You need to just accept that you’ll get grubby grout. Honestly, no one will notice except you.

ohyesohyesoh · 03/01/2024 13:54

We have never had white grout on any floor tiles. And we don't even have dogs. Out bathroom fitters said not to as it would
Become very grubby very quickly , even in a . Bathroom. A kitchen is a huge dirt trap
Get it re done in a coffee/ mocha or darker shade

Loussa · 03/01/2024 13:56

You can see the contrast - above the towel is where dogs can’t go. Tbh I could probably steam mop below the rug a bit more but the karcher was giving me a blister!

Ive begged dh to be better. A quick swipe with the spray mop/flash speed mop is not enough!

Just get an outside tap. We’ve got a hot water mixer outside one to wash the dogs off before they come in. As others have said probably best not to have white grout on floors of you have dogs tbh.

Sunnydays0101 · 03/01/2024 13:58

You’ll just have to live with it, when we tiled our floors 20 years ago, our tiler advised a darker grout as cream/white would be impossible to keep clean.

Just know your floors are swept, washed and clean and forget about the discoloured grout, you will get used to it.

BusySittingDown · 03/01/2024 13:59

White grout is no good. Even without dogs, even if you're a "shoes off" house, someone will walk in with shoes on or things get spilled and stain it.

Aprilx · 03/01/2024 13:59

About once a year, we touch up our grout on the kitchen floor with grout paint which we get from from Amazon.

Loussa · 03/01/2024 13:59

We have only been in the house 6 weeks! I use the spray mop probably every other day or when DH chooses to walk the dogs in the pouring rain after an entirely dry morning/afternoon.

I can't really see much difference, to be fair (your kitchen and floor look lovely). Maybe I just have low standards! 😂

BusySittingDown · 03/01/2024 14:02

Can you walk the dogs instead of DH and take them somewhere dry?

Although it seems mean to deprive them of the forest.

Sunnydays0101 · 03/01/2024 14:05

It’s not just the dogs that will discolour the grout, it’s everyday living. Honestly, there’s very little difference between your clean/yuck sections.

If you are actually crying about this, get a grip and stop letting it prevent you enjoying your new home and kitchen. Trying to keep the grout white will be a life long battle so you may just accept it wasn’t the best choice of grout colour and live with it.

I can't really work out your photo either as you appear to have covered the problem bit with a towel.

Has the grout been sealed? We have two dogs, live in the countryside and generally enter the house through the back / kitchen door so it is heavy traffic. As I mentioned the grout does discolour but touching up once a year keeps it bright (it is cream) for about 12 months. I wonder if yours has discoloured so quickly as it wasn't sealed.

Janieforever · 03/01/2024 14:07

I also can’t see the issue. It’s curious your husband uses the word fixated, is this something you do a lot. Your floor is clearly fine.

Tinysarah1985 · 03/01/2024 14:08

With all due respect you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. It's a bit of grout, they have hardly trapsed it all through the house, all over the carpets and all over your cotton sheets have they? Bleech it if it's bothering you that much. As a dog owner myself I refuse to loose sleep or give the colour of the grout on our kitchen floor that much headspace.

MeinKraft · 03/01/2024 14:10

Make a paste with bicarb and vinegar, leave it on for a few hours then scrub with a grout brush. And stop being so dramatic!

Loussa · 03/01/2024 14:11

The dogs are 8 - would be perfectly happy walking along the path down by the river but DH insists the woods by our house are their “favourite”. Sure, no problem in Summer or when we’ve had a dry spell.

Causes a lot of resentment. He does the dishes/surfaces and floors are
my job
