Is Anyone Else Crying In Their Car Today?

Addyview · 02/01/2024 08:19

First day back to work as normal, I worked last week but it was shorter hours and everyone was still in a good mood from Christmas. Today I got up and didn't want to go back to work and leave my family. I don't know if I've got January Blues or if this is my sign that I need a new job but I cried the whole drive to work, must have looked like a mad woman to the next to me when I was sat in traffic. Anyone else having a depressed morning? Any tips to get me through the day without going home with a headache to go join my kids to watch rainy day films?

I think you need a new job!
I love mine and spent the last couple of days desperate to go back... Cried last night when baby was sick and I realised I'd have to take today off!

PersephonePomegranate23 · 02/01/2024 12:04

I always feel like this in January, it's awful. I don't dislike my job or my everyday life, but I find January so depressing and bleak.

I try to save some of the nice things from Christmas to continue in the new year, but I have to just roll with it. It's usually two weeks of feeling really low.

Chubbywubba · 02/01/2024 12:11

Ah January. The month that should be spent under a pile of blankets watching comforting episodes of Friends on Netflix. Nobody wants to be out there. I only unlock my front door in March.

I love back to normal. Hate December and the Xmas period

Yes me too!
I'm delighted to be back to work, the routine and the normality. Also don't love endless hours around my family.

CharlotteBog · 02/01/2024 12:16

Like many, I am creature of routine, and I do enjoy my job.

However, I should have taken today off just to potter about and regroup.
We only got back from family visits 9pm last night, and I'd had guests for 3 days so I spent yesterday evening getting everything back in shape.

I do have a routine mammogram this afternoon so that's breaking up the day.
I am a night owl and therefore enjoy sleeping in a bit over holiday times. It's therefore a bit of a shock when you've been back at your desk for seemingly hours, then look at the clock and see it's 10.30am or something!

DS not back at school until the 4th - THEN I will feel properly back on track.

The interminable rain isn't helping.

aynsleyredder · 02/01/2024 12:17

I cried last night before bed and when I turned my computer on this morning. The come down after Christmas is depressing isn’t it. But I hate my job and need to step up my job hunting, but it’s difficult when I don’t know what kind of job would make me happier.
hope your first day isn’t too bad op.

piscofrisco · 02/01/2024 12:18

Me. I've been offered a job elsewhere which I will probably enjoy but is far less money. We can afford it but it's not a logical thing to do. However I'm sitting at my desk feeling like I'd rather be anywhere else on earth!

Asparagus1 · 02/01/2024 12:20

I think it’s the blues. I am still off but feel crap today. It must be hard being back knowing the rest of the family are at home. X

Doggymummar · 02/01/2024 12:22

I'm back in Monday and already looking forward to getting my new targets and objectives. I also have my own business that I'm looking to grow this year So looking forward to people being back at work so I can reach out to them.

OvertiredandConfused · 02/01/2024 12:23

I absolutely love my job, and I still feel like this about going back to work in January! I’ve deliberately taken an extra day of leave today, whilst the rest of the house is back at work, to give me a transition day that makes it a bit easier.

Chubbywubba · 02/01/2024 12:29

That’s good for the OP to know. 👌Read the room springs to mind

Or just read the OP even.

I hate being back at work, I have really struggled this time around tbh and I've been anxious in the background since last week and then the 'sunday scaries' began in earnest. Been up since 5am as a result, I've made a vow to book some leave for this week next year as it's horrible. No suggestions how to make it feel less crap as I just think Jan is rubbish, it's wet, cold and dark the glittery lights and anticipation of Christmas and New Year feel distant very quickly and then the intensity of a new year at work begins in earnest.

Thepeopleversuswork · 02/01/2024 12:32

I'm not crying in my car (I don't have a car) and in general I like my job but I can absolutely relate to this.

It's probably partly tinged with January blues but I do think when you get to the point where your job makes you cry it's probably time to move on.

Floopani · 02/01/2024 12:34

I work from home, so no car today, but I did log in and get tearful. I'm so sick of this job. Just need to find another one. I keep thinking this thing or that thing will be the straw that breaks the camels back, but seems I am a pretty robust, if sad, camel.

Ktime · 02/01/2024 12:34

Sounds like you’re in the wrong job.

I have felt like you do but in previous jobs. Flowers

I’ve a lot of work waiting for me but overall I’m happy to go back next week after 2 weeks off.

LuckySantangelo35 · 02/01/2024 12:45

I think a lot of it is to do with the awful weather and climate we have in the uk
constant rain and wind and cold
being cooped up in doors all the time
getting constant colds and viruses all the time as a result
it’s proper grim

TheLogicalSong · 02/01/2024 12:48

I always feel depressed after a holiday. With Christmas, I don't make a particularly big thing of the celebrations but there is that sense of 'normal' being suspended over the festive season and you're in a sort of cosy holiday fug, and coming out of that into the hard, cold light of January is depressing.

BetiYeti · 02/01/2024 12:51

Big hug OP. I’m on my last day of holiday today and have been ill all over Christmas (seeing doc later). Boss is back at work and keeps messaging me about stuff that could wait until tomorrow. My DH has said to ignore the messages. Along with feeling unwell I am now anxious. My job is ok, my boss is the problem though.

LardyCakeAgain · 02/01/2024 12:56

Similar here so YANBU, I have an extra few days off but I'm dreading it. I have nice colleagues and my current role is OK but boring, and 10 days off spent with my loved ones makes my job feel a bit of a pointless use of my time shuffling paperwork, so I get a lot of existential angst. If the company I worked for went bust tomorrow, no-one would miss it. Nothing is done there that supports vital services anymore, but I'm too unwell and tired to go into the caring / emergency services, or anything worthwhile.

moomoomoo27 · 02/01/2024 12:59

Headphones on, bit of a treat at lunch, chat to someone you like, don't ask too much of yourself.

Areyoumashing · 02/01/2024 13:08

The thought is usually worse than the doing. Once I get to work I stick the kettle on, have a cuppa and let it all happen! 😀

JenniferGreenHat · 02/01/2024 13:08

Best wishes OP. Hope you feel better soon.

I cried yesterday as I could see a neighbours Christmas tree outside after being decorated at Christmas. Made me feel so sad that Christmas is over.

I’ve got covid and feel awful, whilst providing crap parenting to my kids. But I’m tearful today too!!

Tdcp · 02/01/2024 13:10

I feel like this too. I want to go to bed in the dark until February.

honeyandfizz · 02/01/2024 13:10

I have to work all over Christmas (nurse of 28 years) and always try and book this week off as a treat for myself to get me through. I generally dislike Christmas because I cannot ever just switch off and enjoy the festive period and always envy those who do. The endless rain is pissing me off and I am on the hunt for a holiday somewhere hot mid Feb as I have not had one in 4 years and really need a bloody break. I think work life in general is just hard and having time off highlights it all.
