Strange incident in the woods

It’s still playing on my mind and was just really odd.

Today, Dh and I took Dd, 5 and our dog in the woods/fields by our home. All was fine and we were heading back home, I was walking ahead keeping track of our dog and Dh was with Dd (she walks slowly, wants to stop to play/have adventures etc)
I saw a person walking behind Dh who was swaying from side to side and just seemed very odd, I felt a bit strange and started to call to Dd to run to me (as in a game-run as fast as you can/who’s the winner type thing) Dh had also noticed and started to walk more quickly, he then picked her up and started to hurry to me and we got to an open part where there were houses and cars. Dd was getting upset and shouting about why he picked her up etc and we were watching this person in the distance acting so strangely, staggering everywhere and then suddenly running.
A man came up talking on his phone (Russian I think and looking around everywhere) Dh asked him if he was looking for someone, the man didn’t speak English, so Dh started motioning towards the woods where the person had ran ( Dh says it was a woman)
Dh then went with the man to show him where she was and Dh said he saw this man find her
We explained to Dd, without trying to scare her.
As we were walking back we were discussing it and saying why did we try to run away, why didn’t we try to help them.
It was just a really really odd situation, we in these woods almost daily, nothing ever happens.

I keep wondering about this woman and what on earth had happened to her, Dh thinks she may have been drunk because of New year and wandered back and lost her way (the woods are next to the beach)

Would you have done the same thing? My initial feeling was fear and to get dd away

This narrative has been spinning like a hamster on a wheel all evening

🐹 🛞 😝

Maireas · 01/01/2024 22:50

So, I'm guessing you've reported the incident to the police? Nothing else now, really.

littlebopeepp234 · 01/01/2024 22:50

MuckyPlucky · 01/01/2024 22:49

Was it “the middle of nowhere” or was it “our usual dog walking route by the beach” ? 🤔

You don’t half put an infuriating spin on things to suit the narrative.

Edited

It was a “woods with trees” 🤣

Kalevala · 01/01/2024 22:51

Is there anything else we can now do in case

Report it. Do some basic self defence classes.

Tonight1 · 01/01/2024 22:51

@Livelaughlovesigns we're genuinely not having a go at you. I expect you started this thread just expecting people to agree it was creepy, but the story is very muddled so it's hard to make sense of it.

Livelaughlovesigns · 01/01/2024 22:51

@MuckyPlucky No, not putting a spin on anything to suit any narrative, why would I, what would be the point.
Yes, the middle of the woods has no houses around, no cars, nothing, so yes it could be classed as the middle of nowhere.
You can walk through the woods down to the beach and road or just through the woods itself…ok?

Don’t forget the bars and restaurants

LittleGreenDragons · 01/01/2024 22:52

I'm confused OP. Did either you or DH actually speak to the woman at all or just basing her drunkenness and happy to see random strange man on her body language? Because drunkenness can actually be a diabetic episode, or drugs, or injury, or certain illnesses. Happy to see random stranger could be an abused woman's self preservation.

And even a man staggering around in woods should be worthy of checking for illness or injury imho.

Livelaughlovesigns · 01/01/2024 22:49

I’m not drunk, I barely drink.
The situation is confusing, to me also, hence my posting as it was all so strange.
In hindsight we made mistakes and I don’t really need telling this.

Write down everything you remember.

A description of the woman, the direction she can in, a description of the man and his car, the times, the conversations. Write it all down.

🤔 hmmmmm op has just said “Yes, the middle of the woods has no houses around, no cars, nothing, so yes it could be classed as the middle of nowhere”

My brain is well and truly frazzled 🤣

Livelaughlovesigns · 01/01/2024 22:53

@Tonight1 Thanks, lots of people are taking the piss though. I agree it’s very muddled as the whole situation was and I suppose it’s hard to explain it all when people don’t have any idea of the outlay of the woods, the way the man looked/appeared/seemed, the whole situation really.

Ah yes. It was their usual normal dog walking route (in the woods with trees, and also by the beach)… but it was also threateningly in the middle of nowhere, which led the grown OP & DH to fear for their safety when they saw a swaying male maniac who also was a vulnerable woman, who happened to be married to an elderly Russian gentleman who spoke no English.

But what counts is OP’s daughter wasn’t savagely murdered in the woods with trees / middle of nowhere / usual dog walk route. ….phew!

Are the bars and restaurants near the woods?

ScrantonDunderMifflin · 01/01/2024 22:55

I hope it wasn't the case of human trafficking 😔

Pollyannamex · 01/01/2024 22:56

“He thinks it’s a New Years drunken situation as the beach and some restaurants/bars are at the bottom of the woods”

Livelaughlovesigns · 01/01/2024 22:57

@FIuffy Thank you, we will, that’s really helpful.

TMess · 01/01/2024 22:57

You wouldn’t hold up on the defense stand, that’s for sure. If I didn’t already have the ick from my husband scurrying away from an ill/confused/drunk/elderly/person/woman I definitely would get it when he directed a random man toward her and then left. 🥴 agreed I’d have prioritized my DC if alone but surely two grown adults could’ve handled this better.

You’ve called the police now OP, not sure what else you can do!

Maireas · 01/01/2024 22:55

No, the trees are in the woods. There’s a road nearby, and a beach.

It’s all terrifyingly remote….like a horror film. Not the sort of place you’d want to see someone swaying, put it that way.

Livelaughlovesigns · 01/01/2024 22:57

@Maireas Down by the beach, I already said that.

Oh yes those woods (complete with trees) that are now no longer near a beach and are in the middle of nowhere lol

So why would you walk your dog and small child there?

Right. Do the woods end by the beach?

The whole neighbourhood walks there. Keep up!

Yes
please report it to the police

there may be known abusers or traffickers in the area

my boring London suburb I used to live in had a brothel of trafficked women in a house en route to the station.

it’s not drama. These problems exist right under our noses.
