We are down to a few bits of chicken and some stuffing which will probably be gone soon in a few sandwiches

plenty of alcohol and chocolates though - which will have to be got through by or donated when I start my diet on January 2nd!!
I try really hard not to over buy but then get given edible/drinkable presents
Quite looking forward to a change from all the rich food so am doing gammon with salad and new potatoes for New Year’s Day

I have a friend who throws left overs, she is comfortable financially but wasn't always so, I think she feels saying that makes her look "considerably richer than yew"
My favourite meal is shepherds/cottage pie made with the leftovers from Sunday lunch. I deliberately allow for it when I buy my joint.

Caroparo52 · 30/12/2023 08:15

Went to my relations this year so no left overs sadly.
Massively over bought cheese and chocs so this being donated to local food bank today. Diet stats 1st Jan

BCBird · 30/12/2023 08:17

No.leftovers. cooked roast beef for two meals- catering for 1- easy.

BeyondMyWits · 30/12/2023 08:23

No left overs beyond boxing day (turkey leek and ham pie with pigs in blankets and leftover veg chopped in.). Biscuits and cheese crackers go in the cupboard.

Used to buy lots of extra stuff, but learned over the years what gets eaten.

crackfoxy · 30/12/2023 08:26

Made a pie day after Boxing Day and used the meat in a few sarnies. Just thrown the rest away. Sweets I took into work. Can't wait to get tree down and de-Christmas the house!!

SouthEastCoast · 30/12/2023 08:28

We had no leftovers just lots of chocolate and biscuits and some extra cheeses in the fridge but all the meat I only ever get enough for the day and maybe some to snack on later on.

Poppysmom22 · 30/12/2023 08:29

We have loads of chocolate and biscuits but we will space them out rather than just scoffing them - my New Year’s resolution is to enjoy things in moderation rather than scarfing everything (if they are here all the time I’m not bothered for them)

Boxing day was Christmas Dinner leftovers heated up
Day after was turkey and trimmings paninis for lunch
One portion of homemade steak pie and roasties in freezer
Pigs in blankets and stuffing frozen
Left over Turkey sliced and frozen for Sunday dinner in a few weeks time
Veg all used up in various incarnations
Chocolate piled up on top of fridge and booze ready for new year

I overcook deliberately so don't have to cook for a few days.
Bubble and squeak with leftover veg, stuffing and pigs in blankets on boxing day with turkey and gammon . Then we have the leftover meat with salad, coleslaw, couscous etc and part baked rolls or Turkey fajitas. Leftover salmon used in pasta.
It's all gone now.
But still have lots of cheese, biscuits and chocolate, Chrismas cake and mince pies.
Prioritising homemade biscuits and mince pies. The rest will last well into January.

Fifthtimelucky · 30/12/2023 11:01

I have frozen some turkey, but am still eating the final slices of ham in sandwiches with the remains of the cranberry sauce.

Masses of chocolates/mince pies/stollen/shortbread left but there will be 13 of us on New Year's Eve, so most will go then.

ThinWomansBrain · 30/12/2023 11:06

Visited friends
Generously accepted a delicious turkey sandwich for the train home😁

NeedToChangeName · 30/12/2023 11:11

We chop and mix all the leftovers together (turkey, pigs, stuffing, veg, gravy, cranberry etc), and top with chopped roast potatoes for epic boxing day pies. Ate one on boxing day, put 2 in the freezer

mamaduckbone · 30/12/2023 11:35

The last bits of turkey went in the freezer ready to make pie on New Year's Day, but Boxing Day lunch of cold turkey, gammon and chips with all the other bits - pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce etc - made short work of most of it, plus sandwiches during the week.

We had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast again today, and plan to have a cheeseboard for lunch as that's the one thing we still have loads of.

Chocolates, soft drinks and snacks we're working our way through gradually but the alcohol will just stay in the cupboard until it gets used up.

longtompot · 30/12/2023 11:36

All the turkey and beef has gone but we still ham left which will be eaten in sandwiches today or to top the mushroom and leek risotto I am making tonight.
The gravy has been frozen to use for future roasts.
Cheese will be eaten on NYE.
Lots of sweet snacks left. Not even touched the panettone yet!

Isthiscorrect · 30/12/2023 11:38

We had a huge turkey as DH loves turkey leftovers. So I've frozen slices in one person portions (for sandwiches, lunch), and two person portions for pies and curry.

youngones1 · 30/12/2023 11:41

I was planning to make turkey sandwiches today, is that a bit risky?

Not in the least. Use your nose, if it smells OK it’s fine.

Caterina99 · 30/12/2023 12:12

I feel one of the best parts about Christmas is not having to properly cook meals for a week and just living on leftovers, vegetable soup, party food and cheese for a few days.

Not looking forward to having to plan proper family meals again in the New Year.

As for chocolate and booze etc. It doesn’t go off so we will just gradually eat/drink it over the year. Not a problem for us! A lot will probably get used up over new year as we’re hosting.

In the bin. We don’t eat leftovers in this house. I find the idea quite grim.

How wasteful. Why is food grim as a leftover when it wasn’t in the first place?

LikeItOrLumpIts · 30/12/2023 13:44

I’ve made turkey pies, still got one to eat.

I love leftovers, I can’t imagine throwing food away, what a waste.

Rainbow1901 · 30/12/2023 19:07

DH finished the trifle and I had the last two bananas with cream after we shared a platter of nibbly bits from the selection in the freezer. DH is also making progress on the sweet bowl!!

My mother was like this - stems from her feeling poor as a child (compared to the other kids in boarding school - she never quite got over that), when she could afford to waste food she did - it was a way of her feeling wealthy.

TheaBrandt · 31/12/2023 10:42

There are these magic machines called freezers…We hosted a large number so lots of veg left smug about my two veggie curries made on 27th and in freezer that’s 2 weeknight meals

youngones1 · 31/12/2023 14:53

I ate some five days old turkey yesterday and I'm still here!
