Just that really. I’ve tried things but never kept them up. I know less Internet/phone and more water would be good so I might try that!

Water.
Jogging.
Walking almost everywhere and carrying shopping.

Delassalle · 29/12/2023 10:15

Reduce portion size when you're in your 50s to remain slim.

megletthesecond · 29/12/2023 10:28

Gosh yes Dela. I can still indulge and eat what I want I just have to have far less of it now. I even eat just half a packet of crisps with lunch these days.

Isometimeswonder · 29/12/2023 10:34

Gave up smoking 20 yrs ago. But still proud I did.

IhaveanewTVnow · 29/12/2023 10:34

Can anyone recommend any free online yoga/Pilate courses. I use to go to a class but can’t afford it at the moment. I need something I can do for 15 mins a day. Thank you

A lot of people here recommend Yoga with Adrienne.

The change that has had the most impact is quitting alcohol.

I have gone from a size 16 to a size 12 in 8 months. Skin is clear, I have loads more energy, sleep better, and mental health is fantastic.

Alcohol is such a con.

eish · 29/12/2023 10:53

YouTube have lots of free yoga, you could start by trying Adrienne.

MoonriseKingdom · 29/12/2023 10:55

Getting a veg box as someone else mentioned. I’ve had a weekly veg box from Riverford for around 7 years. I eat a much wider variety of veg as a result. They also have a lot of good recipes on their website which has increased the variety of what I cook.

Im curious about all the people who have given up alcohol. What was your drinking before? I have a glass of wine or bottle of beer around 3 times per week. Almost never drink more than that, even at social events. I’m not convinced would make a great difference to me to stop altogether and I enjoy it!

user14699084787 · 29/12/2023 10:56

Quit the booze.
Stop worrying about stuff too far in the future that may never come to anything - sometimes easier said than done.
“There’s been a lot of trouble in my life, most of which never happened” not sure where i read that, but it’s very true!

BathTangle · 29/12/2023 10:58

I like Pop Pilates on youtube. Lots of options but there's a 10-12 minute full body workout that I used to do every day.... and this has reminded me to start again so thank you!

mindutopia · 29/12/2023 11:02

Nearly a year ago, gave up alcohol (I’m an alcoholic though and was drinking a lot - but I think everyone would benefit from quitting even if just a social or weekend drinker). I lost a stone from that alone, look and feel much better.

For my mental health, wild swimming, which I started during lockdown.

Running (which I did in my 30s) and planning to start again in January also made a massive difference.

I stopped smoking three years ago.

Cut down alcohol completely about a year ago - it really affected my mental health and I felt so tired and sluggish the day after drinking that I would lie around all day eating junk. I’ll still have a glass or two if I go out, which is very rare, or over Christmas but I don’t miss it at all.

For 2024 I plan to start couch to 5k, and looking more closely at what I eat. Main aim is to drastically reduce the amount of UPFs in our diet. Two very close relatives have had cancer this year, one is terminal, and I’ve realised how important good health is. I really believe our lifestyle and diets contribute to the increase in cancer diagnoses. I might be wrong but no harm in improving my health regardless!

Walking lots
10 minute method
Cured myself of binge eating disorder
3 litres of water a day
Tea total
Daily meditation and gratitude practice
God I sound like a right bore 😂😂😂

rosemarypetticoat · 29/12/2023 11:14

So interesting so many of you have quit drinking. I love a drink, just a glass a night, but I guess it’s an unthinking habit rather than something I’m actively enjoying. You have all got me thinking.

I’ve been reading this about how we build habits, both good and bad, so they just become who we are. So if you want to change your life, change your habits. There’s a quote in there from Steve Jobs about you define your habits for the first 30 years, but then they define you for the last 30

Suchalicklepumpkin · 29/12/2023 11:15

I quit alcohol. I drink 2l of water daily. I try to hit 20,000 steps per day. Last January, as emails arrived I thought about whether they were beneficial to me and if not I unsubscribed. That really cleared my mind.

WildFlowerBees · 29/12/2023 11:18

Regular exercise, I still don't enjoy it but my body has changed and it's good for my mental health. I also drew some firmer boundaries for myself with others. Saying no is quite liberating!

DeeCeeCherry · 29/12/2023 11:18

Home Exercise - Dumbbells, Resistance Bands, You Tube workouts. All short sessions once or twice daily. I dislike gym and long workouts, and previously was somehow using that as an excuse to not exercise.

Drinking 2 litres of water daily. Having at least 2 early nights per week. Winding down before bed with a book, instead of scrolling through phone. Cutting down carbs. Remaining mindful of not entertaining toxic people and situations in my life at all. Walking 12 minutes to station on my way out in the morning, instead of driving or jumping on bus.

I look and feel better and more energetic than I have for years. Wish I'd started all this sooner

bloatedbobby · 29/12/2023 11:20

No it isn’t feasible for all but working p/t. I think many focus on exercise & diet which obviously is important but stress gets overlooked & can do a lot of harm.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 29/12/2023 11:21

What's the 10 minute method @Nicole1111 ?

Thementalloadisreal · 29/12/2023 11:26

Running, for my physical and mental health.

Realising that diet culture is bullshit and completely reframing what I consider “health”

Listening to some amazing podcasts such as Maintenance Phase, What the actual Fork, Eat the Rules, Go love yourself, Rethinking Wellness, and I Weigh.

Lovetotravel123 · 29/12/2023 11:28

Giving up alcohol. The improvements were subtle but very important.

Username620 · 29/12/2023 11:32

Stopped drinking, stopped eating out a lot and started walking. I’m now 25kg lighter than I was pre Covid time and much fitter.
