To not want to meet friend tomorrow?

I have a meal with a friend and her friend planned for tomorrow.
Once again it's at a restaurant 5 mins walk from her house and her friends
It's 2 busses and a taxi away for me.
I don't drive and we are having a couple of drinks.
We are meeting for 1.30pm so I will have to leave at around 11am
It's a 15 min walk to the first bus stop then 25 mins on that bus
Walking 10 mins to the next bus stop where I'm on that bus for around 55 mins
To then get to the city and have to take a taxi to friends house which will be around £10 each way

A taxi from mine to hers would be over £50 each way so can't afford that.
Aibu to cancel ?

Not unreasonable to not want to go at all . Just say you aren't feeling up to the journey - no need to invent a horrible illness . Then next time a meet up is arranged ask if it can be closer to you.

For me I couldn't be doing with all the faffing around and changing buses . Am quite happy for a long train journey to see someone (and an Uber to the station) but all that faffing - no thanks .

Oh sorry - you've already been - ignore me.

YANBU to cancel, but why did you agree to this in the first place?

I do this all the time. It sounds a great idea at the time but the closer it gets and the more real the travel gets I start to think wtf have I agreed to.
We have a white board in the staff room at work. Socials are posted on there and you add your name if you’re going.
I added mine and every time I walked past it I thought “who am I kidding” and wiped my name off 😂

I get that £65 sounds a huge amount on taxi's but to put into perspective - I have paid £40 on a train fare plus Ubers to station to meet up with someone who lives in a different town and don't feel I've been short-changed . Probably because it's not a regular event .

Seen update

These people are not friends

In Future with her or anyone meet half way

Don't agree to things you aren't happy about

ChimChimeny · 30/12/2023 14:05

sorry I am not coming - it is going to be a nightmare to get there and back and I didn't properly think it through when I agreed. Hope you and X have a good night and hopefully see you soon somewhere a bit more central to us both

Save this wording for next time, or something similar, it is a nice way asking to meet up closer to you.

New Year resolution for you. Learn to say "that doesn't work for me". I read that on here and its been very liberating 🤣.
