....to be unsurprised the BBC called the London Oratory a "prestigious private school" when it isn't?

The London Oratory school is in the news because there's been a minor blaze there (nobody hurt) and a pupil has been taken in for questioning.

I was idly listening to PM on Radio 4, and they described the school as a "prestigious private school". Except it isn't, of course. It's a state-funded school. Except, again, it's functionally a free private school for posh and/or famous people that most ordinary mortals couldn't hope to get their kids into. I found this burst of accidental honesty from the BBC quite refreshing.

I'm sick of the posh London schools that are state-funded but that are effectively free private schools because of the way they massage their admissions. The now-disgraced former head of Holland Park School was taking HPS firmly in that direction, I know that a few other West London schools operate in the same way. I would love to see Ofsted - who were useless re the HPS scandal until it was too late - address this in some way. All children, even the ones whose parents aren't rich or famous, should have equal access to local schools, regardless of income, religion or parental connections.

AIBU to enjoy this bit of accidental honesty from the BBC?

I don’t think I am the one who is narcissistic. I haven’t tried to close down any disagreement. I haven’t posted anything about my life be that school choice, supermarket, food, accessories or anything else, so who knows how you can insult my choices.

StarlightLime · 04/05/2024 19:07

God, stop feeding it, @calmnights

You should try reading some of the other threads, albeit you can’t read all of them as some have been deleted.

@Dogsaregods I strongly recommend you contact this forum moderators requesting removing the posts of those who are using two nicknames. I believe it is against the rules of this forum. They can see IP address as I believe.

And stop offending me. I am not Ewrika. Some sort of paranoia has developed here.

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 04/05/2024 19:35

@calmnights My son is in year 6 and has been since Reception in school in Hampton. He doesn't have EHCP.
If you browse my nickname you will find that I spoke about it several times.

please stop stalking me with your bizzare references that I am Ewrika.

calmnights · 04/05/2024 19:38

I haven’t mentioned you or your son. I haven’t stalked you or implied you are @Ewrika - in fact quite the opposite, I explicitly said my post mentioning other names wasn’t about you. I haven’t stalked anyone, I am aware of certain previous threads because I was on a couple of them and have seen many others as they are/were on boards I frequent.

@Teacupsandrollups

I will not follow that paranoid accusations by possibly one person. I have reported the entire thread with the suggestion that there are people here who are on two or more nicknames. I hope it will be resolved by moderation who can see IP addresses and removes the posts by the same person.

I think this might be my mistake. Sorry @JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything!

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 04/05/2024 20:25

@StormingNorman

Give it some time. I hope that the forum "police" will respond to my request today or tomorrow and will remove all posts of people who use two or more nicknames in this thread.

And answering your question, we have never applied nor been to Oratory school. It has never been on my map of interests. It is like almost 1.5 hours journey from where I live. And why would I do that if we have much closer and equally good Catholic schools.
