To think Gone With the Wind really isn't a romantic film?

Just finished watching it, hadn't ever seen it all the way through before. Toxic/abusive relationships, marital rape depicted positively (WTF??), racism and misogyny, manipulative characters... all I can say is I hope it's no longer considered romantic in this day and age. AIBU?

The friendship between Scarlet and Melanie is the ' love ' story in the film . Its so obvious after having seen Maleficent and Frozen. I think any remake should focus on that .

Also , the scene where I think scarlet, Melanie and Rhett ride horses past fire scares me. I don't think modern cgi would have the same impact.

I think the true love story is Scarlett's love for Tara. Her father says something about it in the first chapter - something like "land is the only thing worth fighting and dying for". She dismisses him then but comes to understand it when everything else is collapsing around her. And in the end, when she has lost Melanie and Rhett, it's Tara she wants.

My dearest is a modern take on Gone with the wind. It's a Korean drama with really good reviews. It was released this year and honestly it's amazing!! Available to watch in Viki

Absolutely. She’d have done anything in her power to protect Tara.

@NonPlayerCharacter the thing Scarlett wasn't on her own. She had a kid, Melanie and her baby, her sisters,her dad , plus the slaves. That is a lot of people to be responsible for (and their futures) with absolutely no income . And of course, the fact that Tara was more to her than just a roof over their heads. From the attachment and symbolism , the past it represents to the fact that it could become a source of food and income one again.

@GreatGateauxsby
I did not know that about Clark Gable!! That's a shock

Wasn't OdH's sister also famous, but they didn't get on?

Snopes said it's not true.
