To not put neighbours bins out again?

Woke this morning at 6.30, howling wind and rain and both opposite neighbours recycling bins blown over and rubbish in our garden. Went out with dp and put it all back and stood bins up again. Within 10 mins they'd blown over again, repeat process. In between times I'd mentioned to dp that bin collections are a day behind and asked him when bins due out. He said due out today, so I put neighbours bins up close to their houses and he put our bin back in garage.

I've just checked the calendar, bins were due yesterday, so should be picked up today. I've put our bin out again but left neighbours where they are.

Aibu not to put neighbours bins out again (don't know if it's their position or that they are so light which means they are blowing over). If we hadn't done out and retrieved rubbish (twice) then bin wouldn't have been collected anyway.

Both neighbours in. One is single lady, lights off. Other neighbours lights on, able bodied young couple. If that makes any difference.

YABU, you moved the bins (for good reason though!) and they haven't necessarily had adequate time to notice so it's on you to put them back where they were unfortunately. Would be fair to think twice about having to help them again or talk to them about how much their rubbish blows about though.

Octonaut4Life · 27/12/2023 08:34

You can't hide people's bins and then just leave them, they probably haven't realized there's anything wrong! Why not just knock on the door if the lights are on and explain they keep blowing over?

RowanMayfair · 27/12/2023 08:35

You've put them where they won't be collected so go and put them back. Then ask them not to leave them out early again.

Marmite27 · 27/12/2023 08:36

If you put them out to be collected, there won’t be anything in them for you to gather up…

Babyblackbear78 · 27/12/2023 08:37

You can’t hide their bins and then not put hem out. They may not realise you’ve done this.

Auntieobem · 27/12/2023 08:38

If I put them back they'll fall over again and our garden will be full of rubbish again. Folk who are up MUST have heard bins falling over and chose not to go out and sort. Am keeping an eye out for bin lorry so I can nip out and move bins then. Once it's light I'll give them a knock.

Of course you should put them out.

Goodlard · 27/12/2023 08:39

So they've made a mistake about collection day? So you've decided instead of just telling them, that the bins are blowing over and collection day has moved, that you'll move their bins and they won't be collected?

So your helpful picking their bins up, will lead them to think you're a complete arse first moving their Christmas filled bins so they aren't collected!

Very helpful of you..... not!

Where is it not light yet? And why MYST they have heard them falling?

maximumcarnage · 27/12/2023 08:41

You need to put them back or speak to the neighbours. Simple as that.

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 27/12/2023 08:42

YABU, and immensely annoying.

We're in n Scotland, in middle of stormy weather, it's still dark.

Stick s brick, rock, plant pot on top to stop them blowing over.
I'd have done this after the first time.

So should we have just left rubbish blowing about the street??

DP has gone to put them back in their original position, when they blow over again we'll knock and get them to tidy up.

Oh crisis averted!

Harp1977 · 27/12/2023 08:54

We have a weather warning here, so I left putting out our bins until silly O' Clock this morning, I also had to put on gloves and pick up neighbours' rubbish. But I have moved all 9 bins to a more sheltered spot where they can still be collected but hopefully stay upright.
People's bins are full, and if anything like mine can be filled as soon as they are empty again, put them out again or at least let them know they are put away and will not be collected.

Auntieobem · 27/12/2023 08:55

And I am absolutely soaked. Went to bring our empty bin in, their bins blowing down the hill, so I got them back in too. Still random rubbish blowing about....

And the really annoying bit is that awake neighbours bin is full of non recyclable stuff!

RecycleMePlease · 27/12/2023 08:57

I live in a windy spot, us and the neighbours have big rocks that we put on top of our bins if they're a bit light - the bin lorry men are used to it and just push them off.

Previously I lived in the house on the road that 'caught' all the wind-blown rubbish, so I know your pain...

No OP is confusing collection day.
Neighbours put them out night before collection day as you are supposed to (must be out before 7am here, 6am in other places)
Today is collection day - the day they are due
OP asked her husband and he said due out today/weds and she interpreted this to mean they need to go out tonight for collection tomorrow....but she was wrong.

You didn't hear it...you woke up and found it like that, then tidied up. You are making huge assumptions about who is home awake and what they know....for all you know they could be in bed with flu.

Honestly, I'm not sure how they normally deal with their bins without you!

Neighbourhood bin watch you are!

Goodlard · 27/12/2023 09:08

@Mumof2teens79 so even worse! Thank you for correcting it.
