To leave daughter sleeping in “human Dog bed “

Firmbutfair23 · 27/12/2023 07:01

DD 10 was gifted a human sized dog bed for Xmas which was a huge hit ( although dog is slightly confused and miffed that it’s not hers 😂)
currently it’s in the living room —
she has always likes fluffy comfy things. She has complex health conditions that means she needs a resting place some days in the living room. I thought this was ideal. We have always struggled with her at night time - a very poor sleeper.
xmas night she wanted to camp out in living room which I didn’t think any harm of. She was out like a light for 11 hours. Put that down to maybe a busy Xmas day and a fluke.
but then last night we were watching a movie before bed and she fell asleep and is still sound asleep peacefully in the “ human dog bed “ now. I think this is the first time in 10 years that she wasn’t awake in the night.
it’s not thin and has a sort of memory foam bottom.
I mean I’m sure I can’t leave her to sleep in it forever by I’m not denying we are enjoying the sleep ???

YANBU. She’s old enough to get up and go to bed if she gets uncomfortable.

Is she warm enough, does she have a duvet and pillow?

Could she put the human dog bed on her bed and sleep in it?

WashableVelvet · 27/12/2023 07:06

Sounds fine. Pop it in her bedroom and would a fitted sheet go over it to keep it clean, or is the cover removable for washing?

Firmbutfair23 · 27/12/2023 07:08

it has a pillow and blanket that it come with and she has an additional blanket in it but I think actually it’s warm as she takes those off.
the covers come off to wash but suppose we will have to see how well they wash.

If she's sleeping in it better than she sleeps in her bed leave her. As pp said if she's uncomfortable she'll move.

Maybe this is the solution to her sleeping problem that you need 🤞🏻

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/12/2023 07:09

If she's slept that long, she's clearly comfortable for the first time. Don't knock it.

Redglitter · 27/12/2023 07:10

Having just googled them - I WANT ONE

Firmbutfair23 · 27/12/2023 07:11

She is unable to move herself in the night ( attached to various pumps ) but can verbalise and wake me up to tell me if she wanted to be moved … so should be ok right 😅

@Redglitter it’s far bigger than I thought it would be 😅

Presumably she has to shout on you normally if she needs anything. Sleeping in the 'dog bed' in her own room shouldn't be any different

If its going to allow you all a good sleep it sounds great

Floopani · 27/12/2023 07:19

How wonderful for you and your DD, she is comfy and you both get some unbroken sleep. Who says you have to sleep in a bed?

I was really poor sleeper throughout childhood, (no health issues, just insomnia and being a strange kid) and I would seek out various weird places to try and sleep, including the bath, taking all the drawers out of my cabin bed and getting in the space underneath the cabin bed, on the floor in the middle of my bedroom and in the dogs bed with the dog.

I'm in my forties now, sleep in a bed (mostly, sometimes I still sleep on the sofa if I can't sleep) and don't think I have any lasting effects!

Shoppingfiend · 27/12/2023 07:24

I wouldn't call it a human dog bed - just a cosy rround bed or something, a curled up cosy bed?

Fraaahnces · 27/12/2023 07:24

Sounds like that was money well spent

Thats what they're actually called though 😂😂

Absolutely fine, she's obviously comfortable. Growing up I spent countless nights turfed out of my room when we had visitors staying and slept on the living room floor. Didn't do me any harm. Would've loved a human dog bed, sounds fab!

In that case I would ask her if she wants it moved to her bed at night so she can sleep in her own room.

Willmafrockfit · 27/12/2023 07:30

as long as you can hear her in the night i guess

Vieve1325 · 27/12/2023 07:33

Sleep is sleep! I can’t regulate my temperature well and can get very hot when sleeping indoors and air conditioning gives me a sore throat - when I was younger my mum got used to finding me tucked up on the swing chair in the back garden in the morning where it was much cooler. Worked for me!

SutWytTi · 27/12/2023 07:37

I would think sleep is very good for her?

TiredManDad · 27/12/2023 07:37

She's safe and comfy, she feels content enough to sleep and you all get the rest you need. Win win I'd say.

Might try it with my DS who even at 10 gets up in the night, could be a game changer! In fact might even get him a dog bowl for his dinner to see if that makes him eat his veg 🤣

JamNittyGritty · 27/12/2023 07:52

Just googled it - looks awesome. Can’t see any reason why she can’t sleep in it, looks like she can change positions & move around in it. Maybe the enclosed feeling of the sides feels comforting and safe.

NashvilleQueen · 27/12/2023 07:55

I haven't googled so don't know the price but if it's such a hit I'd be tempted to get a second and have one in her room and one downstairs if she needs to nap in the day.

MistletoeandJd · 27/12/2023 07:59

One of mine sleeps better in her DIY nest (pop up tent with beanbag large squishmallows and blankys) then she does in her actual bed. Like the opposite of claustrophobia she likes to be squissssssshed. Yanbu and I don't think it's as uncommon as we may think.

Maybe onto something here!

Blessedbethefruitz · 27/12/2023 08:03

Please share a link, our ds (5 next month) last slept through when I went into labour with his now almost 2 year old sister! I'm very tired!

RomeoMcFlourish · 27/12/2023 08:04

Sounds great, I would leave her where she is as long as you can hear her. Would you mind sharing the brand of the one your daughter has OP? It sounds like something my own daughter might benefit from.
