To leave daughter sleeping in “human Dog bed “

DD 10 was gifted a human sized dog bed for Xmas which was a huge hit ( although dog is slightly confused and miffed that it’s not hers 😂)
currently it’s in the living room —
she has always likes fluffy comfy things. She has complex health conditions that means she needs a resting place some days in the living room. I thought this was ideal. We have always struggled with her at night time - a very poor sleeper.
xmas night she wanted to camp out in living room which I didn’t think any harm of. She was out like a light for 11 hours. Put that down to maybe a busy Xmas day and a fluke.
but then last night we were watching a movie before bed and she fell asleep and is still sound asleep peacefully in the “ human dog bed “ now. I think this is the first time in 10 years that she wasn’t awake in the night.
it’s not thin and has a sort of memory foam bottom.
I mean I’m sure I can’t leave her to sleep in it forever by I’m not denying we are enjoying the sleep ???

Sounds like your DD is perfectly safe and comfortable in there so I’d leave her. The actual sleep is more important than where it happens.

Glenthebattleostrich · 27/12/2023 08:10

She's happy, comfortable and feels secure in it. Put it in her bedroom and enjoy the sleep.

I've added one to DD's ideas for next years presents!!

Firmbutfair23 · 27/12/2023 08:11

@RomeoMcFlourish she has the jolitac brand from Amazon, I’ve seen the Debenhams and b&q one and which are slightly diff material.
they do 2 sizes though a adult and junior where as our one is just one size and xxl !!

I would just be concerned about suffocation if she's unable to move herself fully but could roll? I'm wondering if I would sleep better myself, it's years since I slept through (menopause!)

OfcourseitsaNC · 27/12/2023 08:16

That sounds a wonderful find. Absolutely leave her in the bed and move the bed into her bedroom. I'm sure she'll communicate if she stops liking it.

My only caveat would be to watch out if anything starts twinging or aching. A mattress thinner than a bed may cause joint pains over a period of time.

Firmbutfair23 · 27/12/2023 08:17

@anothernamechangeagainsndagain she can move and roll and sit up and stand up she just can’t walk very far ( as in to her bed ) as she is attached
hope that makes sense 🙈

in regards to you it’s very comfy ! I had a wee nap to 😅

That looks so cosy and comfy.

RandomButtons · 27/12/2023 08:55

Sounds Awesome. Can you hear her if she calls from the downstairs room? Can you make sure the dog doesn’t try to get in it? I’m imagining health conditions wouldn’t make sleeping on dog dander ideal.

Pizdietz · 27/12/2023 08:56

I think you might have started something OP, I want one now!

RandomButtons · 27/12/2023 08:57

Also seen that some have phone pockets - if she has a phone don’t let her put one in the pocket whilst it’s charging

Devonshiregal · 27/12/2023 09:04

When I was a kid I was DESPERATE for a giant dog bed and my dad was always like nooo I’m not buying you that. Still feel resentful today haha. Definitely let her enjoy it - if she can’t move is she definitely ok if it’s soft ie not rolling in to her face not able to breathe? Or is it that she can move enough to be safe but can’t get up for pulling tubes/wires out? Yay for two nights good sleep for you all! Long may it continue!

Is it like this?

My dog has this huge orthopaedic dog bed which is thick memory foam and when it first arrived I 'tried it out for 5 minutes' and woke up an hour later so I agree with your daughter.

At the moment he is a bit miffed because my sisters dog came for Christmas and made a bee line for it.

Everybody loves a giant squishy dog bed

I gave my DD a giant "Floof" dog bed for Christmas. It's like a secure little cave.

Last year I gave her and DS2 weighted blankets. They were both asleep for a solid 12 hours 😂 we joked that if DD used her weighted blanket in the dog bed we would never see her again.

definitely let her sleep in it - I imagine both she and you will enjoy the uninterrupted sleep.

Redglitter · 27/12/2023 09:26

@Bandolina no its actually for people

That’s a great dog bed, do you remeber what it is called by any chance?

Rocksonabeach · 27/12/2023 09:38

Anywhere they can sleep through is a bonus. Well done on the present!

Not sleeping is associated with numerous health conditions. My 10 year old never ever slept through - ever. Diagnosed very late (aged 4) as deaf. He is hearing now but sleeps with me and the dogs - my parents (who I am now nc with) used to go bonkers and unknown to me threaten him to stay in his own room - but he didn’t sleep.

I’d much rather we both got masses of sleep with him in my bed -rather that then him not sleeping and me waking up 10 times a night

m off to google human bed…..

Calmdown14 · 27/12/2023 09:42

Perhaps the sides make it easier for her to prop herself slightly or support positions she needs a bit better.

If it works it works. I spent five months if pregnancy sleeping in an air bed as it was the only thing that worked for my hips.

Richard1985 · 27/12/2023 10:14

As long as she can do everything she can in a regular bed (use the loo, shout you if needs be) then I don't see any issue with it being a "dog" bed

RomeoMcFlourish · 27/12/2023 10:16

Great, thanks @Firmbutfair23 . Tempted to buy one for myself as well as DD!

Chasingsquirrels · 27/12/2023 10:21

Let her sleep, especially as it sounds like she has complex needs and you both need her sleep.

Ds2 spent about 7 months sleeping in a hammock in his room at around 10yo - not as comfy but more useful for scout camp! He'd probably have loved a giant dog bed.

Sweetaschocolate · 27/12/2023 10:24

As long as she is safe and comfortable then I don't see a problem.
How lovely you have found something your daughter clearly loves and is sleeping well in it.
Hope it continues.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 27/12/2023 10:24

Is there a possibility that the material in the base will start to thin from sleeping in it every night? Thereby shortening the life of it?

Whattheheckcarer · 27/12/2023 10:30

NashvilleQueen · 27/12/2023 07:55

I haven't googled so don't know the price but if it's such a hit I'd be tempted to get a second and have one in her room and one downstairs if she needs to nap in the day.

I was about to say this too - may be helpful to have a spare in case you need to wash.

Sugarsun · 27/12/2023 10:32

Can I ask how much it was?

I would love one of these and got one from China and I could barely sit in it!

I want a big one where I as a grown adult can lie in it but I can’t seem to find any.

I thought about buying an actual dog bed but they’re so expensive!

thismummydrinksgin · 27/12/2023 10:35

If everyone's getting sleep, I would absolutely continue, much better for all involved - enjoy 😉 don't overthink the fact it's not a bed x
