Anyone have a nice Christmas and want to show off with me?

I feel like everywhere I look it’s people complaining about having a shit day yesterday, so don’t want to post this publicly. But I had such a lovely day yesterday! Eldest (ASD) managed really well. Youngest (tired and emotional aged) only kicked off once and then rallied. Got some nice presents, had some great food, spent some lovely time with family. So many people in my personal life and on here are say how bad their day was, so I thought it would be nice to have a show off thread? Tell me about the lovely present you got that you weren’t expecting? The nice food you ate? The funny thing that happened? The good tv show you watched and enjoyed?

Lovely to read your post for a bit of balance. My day was lovely - it wasn't one of these fun packed laughter filled from morning to night days (but sometimes I feel that can be like a fake Christmas joy). It was the perfect mix of happiness and contentment and time with loved ones and lovely presents without being over the top.

Food was filling without that crazy stuffed I can't ever move again feeling.

Had a chance to nap later in the evening and it was just a great day without the pressure of trying to make it a great day.

I have no idea if this makes sense!

Both DCs loved their presents - DS4 said 'this is just what I wanted!'. I am still in bed and can hear them playing with them downstairs now. A few tired tears from both DCs at about 7pm bit otherwise all was well, and they were in bed by 7.45. I felt annoyingly smug on Christmas eve when both children were fast asleep by 7.45 then too (this doesn't happen every night, but they were tired).

Lovely food with family. Ate at lunchtime and in the evening ate Christmas pudding and brownie yum!

Such a lovely Christmas here, In-laws cancelled Hosting in early December so we were then free to do exactly what we wanted! Our day consisted of 3 very excited happy DCs, DH and Me plus DM - we joint cooked a gorgeous 3 course Meal, with everyone having exactly what they wanted even if it wasn't traditional! We played with toys all day, danced around the living room, watched trash TV and everyone was tucked up in bed by 7:30. DH and I then watched a brilliant film and had a cheese feast! Such a no pressure relaxed day, I'm so chilled and happy this Morning ❤️

We had an amazing day my daughter (16) has ASD and has hardly left the house since February. But yesterday she went to my sisters house (DD likes this as she feels it is our tradition) we put no pressure on her but she walked their dog and ate Christmas lunch with us - she's not eaten in the same room as us for months.

So our day could not have been better

NosnowontheScottishhills · 26/12/2023 08:48

Thank you for starting this I nearly did the same thing having read so many comments about people being stressed and unhappy. I was with my now grown up DCs and their girl friends we had a lovely relaxed day, highlights were a delicious late lunch and playing charades where at times we laughed till we cried. We all exchanged simple gifts and everyone was delighted with what they received.

LolaSmiles · 26/12/2023 08:49

We had a relaxing day with extended family. Everyone mucked in with getting Christmas dinner ready. We shared nice gifts that were what each other would appreciate, rather than boxes of tat for the sake of it.

I'm glad we made the decision to free ourselves of expectations that don't bring us enjoyment.

DC are still sleeping so I'm having a Boxing Day morning coffee in peace.

Sirzy · 26/12/2023 08:51

It was lovely and chilled here because we did everything the way we needed.

ds (14) is autistic and spent most of the day happily in his room, he would appear downstairs open one present take it upstairs and spend a few hours with it. He still has presents which will be opened when they are opened.

he came down to eat with us and actually ate which was lovely.

Christmasisonitsway · 26/12/2023 08:52

I'm with you op, just had a really lovely day. Great food and company, DD loved her presents and had a fab day. Just exactly what it should be ❤️
Thank you for starting such a lovely thread, too much misery around!

Outofmydepthnow · 26/12/2023 08:56

First Christmas without parents as both died last year. Thought it would be horrible but it was actually lovely. My siblings decided to mix it up this year and do something different and so did we. Instead of being with family we were with close friends.

It was super relaxed. Amazing food , one secret Santa present each , so not expensive or excessive. Just lovely.
My youngest (21) planned it all.. and my eldest , self and two friends all helped cook. 12 of us . Then games that made us howl with laughter until Midnight. Perfect

Peachtails · 26/12/2023 08:58

Merry Christmas!

I had chocolate for breakfast and intend on doing the same today.

IrritableVowel · 26/12/2023 08:59

We had a lovely day too. DH and I bunker down on our own from Christmas Eve until 27th. We spent yesterday walking the dogs then all back to the sofa to watch films all day. Our dinner is very casual, we had a light, snacky lunch. Dinner was Chinese food, I don't eat meat and DH isn't that pushed by traditional Christmas Dinner. We had naps and prosecco and a whiskey before bed.

Very grateful and content with my lot

Scottishgirl85 · 26/12/2023 09:00

We had the best day, my favourite for as long as I can remember. At my sister's in the Hebrides, with my parents too. 13 of us in total. 7 cousins all playing (ranging from age 11 months to 16 years), adults spending quality time together. Amazing food, lovely presents, lots of laughter. Made me reflect how lucky we are, and counting our blessings that for now we all have good health. Merry Christmas :-)

Lex345 · 26/12/2023 09:02

Lovely to see a cheerful thread! We had a gorgeous day-everyone loved their presents, family breakfast, then made Christmas dinner,, the experimental Black forest Tiramisu trifle was delicious! Judged appetites well so very little food waste. Played games all evening and just generally had a brilliant day!

Glad to hear yours went well too!

Timeforanewnam · 26/12/2023 09:03

We had a lovely time as well

I was a bit worried as it’s the fist time it’s been just four of us at home , and I had limited gifts to £100 each , so the kids piles seemed small .

however , we had a lovely time . The kids were so happy with their gifts , i got two new books, we played cludo and went for a walk. Husband cooked a lovely dinner , I washed up and had a nap

no complaints here !

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 26/12/2023 09:04

Everyone has good presents, no disasters at dinner, had a little snooze, all lovely.

MadeOfAllWork · 26/12/2023 09:06

We had a lovely day. DH has only just got out of hospital which ruined his mental health. We spend Christmas Day with friends rather than family. We had a lovely day. Much eating, drinking and playing games.
We have all been friends for a long time and understand each other’s quirks.
DH was physically and mentally much better than I’ve seen him in weeks.

whatkatydid2014 · 26/12/2023 09:13

We’ve had a lovely time. Opened gifts at home in the morning in PJs. Kids were so excited with what Santa got them in stockings and are very happy with gifts from us. OH got me a limited release Lego set you can only buy at the Lego House in Billund and had got a lovely picture my eldest drew framed for me and my parents surprised us with a voucher for a night away at a fairly local hotel we both like and a promise to stay at ours and look after the kids when we go.
We headed over to my parents in the afternoon and had an amazing Christmas dinner with them and my brother/SIL. We cleared up together in about 15 minutes then relaxed for the evening.
The three bigger kids all played a bit of Mario with various adults, which they loved so we feel like the switch was a success as a gift. Rest of the adults chatted with a glass of wine and passed round my baby nephew for cuddles.
Everyone was happy, no disagreements and kids have been well behaved even if a bit hyper. We stayed over so are now looking forward to playing some new board games, leftovers for lunch & heading home for a walk along the seafront and a movie night.

EvilElsa · 26/12/2023 09:15

We had a lovely day.
We hosted my family -food went well, we all received gifts that were thoughtful and that we like. Had a Christmas walk and lots of fun and games.
I'm sorry to anyone who had a crappy day.

Caleche · 26/12/2023 09:16

I had a lovely day and it hasn’t always been thus.
Teens were sweet and thankful. DH was helpful (ish). DB was in good form. But most importantly DM behaved herself and didn’t drink too much and kick off. It made such a difference to the day.

food was tasty too

ManateeFair · 26/12/2023 09:18

We had a nice day too. Just me, DP and MIL, who in contrast to most Mumsnet MILs is absolutely lovely and the world’s easiest guest. All really easy and relaxed. Opened presents with a couple of glasses of buck’s fizz and we were all delighted with what we got. Introduced MIL to cocktails, which she was very taken with. Cooked a traditional Christmas dinner which all went really well. Watched a bit of Christmas telly, laughed a lot, wobbled off to bed around midnight after way too much Bailey’s.

coffeerevelsrule · 26/12/2023 09:19

Just me and two teens and it was lovely. They normally go to their dad's for a bit in the afternoon but this year they saw him Christmas Eve instead. Ds2 opened his stocking at 12.30am (as soon as I left the room!) but then slept til 9. Both liked their presents - only issue was one of the football shirts I had got ds1 was a bit too small but I have the receipt and it's from a local shop. We played a board game and watched Ghosts. All very low-key and easy. Boys had bought me my favourite chocolates and a nice candle. Ds1 is planning to walk into town today (a 3 hour walk!) to spend some of his Christmas money on books. I can just hear them stirring now so it's been another slow morning. I worry we're a bit boring but not much extended family so it is what it is, and they do seem happy and I certainly feel relaxed.

PurBal · 26/12/2023 09:20

Lovely day just the 4 of us despite a teething 6mo and a 2yo with scarlet fever. Really low pressure and easily the most relaxing Christmas in a few years. My only gripe is the amount of “stuff” the children have been given. But you can’t win them all. 😃

Eiris · 26/12/2023 09:23

Yes lovely here. Teen DD liked her tiny stocking presents, and came with me and DH for a walk on the mountain before ghe rain set in. Ancient relative looked beautiful and whizzed throigh the crossword. FIL cooked a delicious lunch. Restful afternoon in front of the fire, and phonecalls to other ancient relatives - they all had nice lunches too. Tiny nephews and nieces were thrilled to bits with their gifts, and SIL and BIL were grinning all over their faces to see their joy.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2023 09:24

Yes we did! First Christmas hosting in new home, food lovely, dd11 (ASD) happy with her presents. Lovely day.
