Primary school teacher going to court in the new year for driving while disqualified, they were banned for 6 months due to accumulating too many points on their licence.

They will be convicted as they are pleading guilty, will this mean they will get the sack from their job? Anyone know a similar situation happen before?

Asking for a friend.

Depends on the sentence. If it's imprisonment, quite possibly. 'She' is unlikely to receive a custodial sentence. Even though she absolutely deserves one.

wideawakeinthemiddleofthenightagain · 24/12/2023 19:06

Probably. And reported to the TRA so unlikely to be able to work as a teacher again.
Teaching is a regulated industry as so much trust is placed upon them. If you can't trust someone to not drive when banned, could you trust them to report a safeguarding incident.
Unfortunately, I don't think many people in regulated industries realise how important their actual qualification is and it isn't so much a matter of losing a particular job as being able to work in the relevant industry at all.

Disillusioned11 · 24/12/2023 19:11

Unless there is some pretty extraordinary circumstances, they’ve been dishonest and considered that the rules don’t apply to them. This is a big big NO in a sector where safeguarding is the number 1 priority and concern. ‘Lapses of judgment’ just aren’t acceptable I’m afraid. She will be dismissed by her school …. the TRA does allow you to plead your case and they may not ban her outright or forever but again it depends if there is any mitigation.

Driving whilst disqualified?

Absolutely will lose job and will be booted out of teaching. Agree 100% with Wideawake above.

festivepains · 24/12/2023 19:14

Most likely yeah

This. It shows they can't be trusted to follow procedures.

CyberCritical · 24/12/2023 19:30

They really should.

Driving while disqualified shows a complete disregard for other people's safety, presumably the points they had accumulated were due to speeding or running red lights so persistently inconsiderate of other people on the road and willing to risk their lives to the extent that it was deemed safest for them to be taken off the road completely.

They also wouldn't have been covered by insurance so if they had injured someone wouldn't have had coverage to pay for medical care and damages.

Someone so willing to risk other people for their own convenience shouldn't be in a regulated career where there is a requirement for demonstrating good ethics and morals.

tescocreditcard · 24/12/2023 19:33

I guess there will be an investigation by the school and the main thing they will want to know is why he continued to drive after he was disqualified. Depending on the answer to this will affect the decision. Or it would if I were responsible for making the decision.

OhcantthInkofaname · 24/12/2023 19:36

Was it an emergency and no other person capable of driving available?

Was it an emergency and no other person capable of driving available?

Absolutely irrelevant. If you're disqualified - you're disqualified completely not unless there's an emergency

tescocreditcard · 24/12/2023 19:43

Are you able to tell us why he did it OP?

Was it a one off or has he just continued to drive despite the ban.

Willyoujustbequiet · 24/12/2023 19:45

I hope he does lose his job. He absolutely should.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 24/12/2023 19:49

Not sure how it’ll be viewed in teaching but driving whilst disqualified is very serious. Shows a complete contempt for the justice system

Makes no difference
It's the same as not having passed your test you're not allowed to drive.

leccybill · 24/12/2023 19:55

I know a teacher who got banned for drink driving. Kept his job.

Why is everyone saying he when it says her in the OP?

lkfstuon · 24/12/2023 19:55

You aren't the 'friend' of the OP who was chasing the ambulance are you?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/12/2023 19:56

Can but hope they get the maximum penalty.

Doubt they will, though. Some shit about how their career is over, they've done so good for little children, they're really sorry and scum like that almost always wriggle out of it.

Topofthemountain · 24/12/2023 19:58

I hope not, a final warning at max. Teaching is in a crisis, if the teacher is good apart from this then it will cause more harm to ban them from teaching.

LondonQueen · 24/12/2023 19:59

It's actually unlikely she will be disqualified from teaching unless she is imprisoned. However, she must inform the school of her conviction. I know of an ex colleague who was done for drink driving (She had a drink problem) however as she lived close to school could cope without driving.

DragonMama3 · 24/12/2023 19:59

my bro didnt and he hit the substation!

LuluBlakey1 · 24/12/2023 19:59

Not necessarily. Will certainly be subject to disciplinary but outcome will depend on exactly what she did, what the circumstances of the offence were and how honest and reflective she has bern about it with her Headteacher.

Probably but not definitely.

More of a crisis if she runs over a couple of six year olds and a woman with a baby due to being a shit driver (or drunk driver) in the first place - hence the original ban - isn't it?

Not "everyone" is saying he.

Just some people.

Doesn't matter anyway.

Her convenience/inconvenience is not what kept her the job.
