Primary school teacher going to court in the new year for driving while disqualified, they were banned for 6 months due to accumulating too many points on their licence.

They will be convicted as they are pleading guilty, will this mean they will get the sack from their job? Anyone know a similar situation happen before?

Asking for a friend.

If this is an accumulation of points, and then driving while banned, it is very clear that she hasn't learned her lesson.

I wouldn't want my child to be at a school which wouldn't sack such an irresponsible person who worked a role of influence.

I hope he does lose his job. He absolutely should.

wow

DWD is a community sentence. They won't get custody. As for the teaching job, I don't know. There's a shortage of teachers right now so that will factor in to the decision.

Topofthemountain · 24/12/2023 20:02

We have no idea what the points were for, totting up can happen for many reasons.

my bro didn't. He was v drunk, hit the substation and then they nicked. He was so drunk he didn't notice them in a police car following him. He fully deserved the 18mth ban.

A news article on a similar situation

Probably not based on this

LondonQueen · 24/12/2023 20:04

@LuluBlakey1 I never said it was. However for most people regardless of disciplinary action they could not keep their job without driving.

MN is an awful place to ask for advice on serious issues.

The place is full of know-it-alls who know nothing but who love to stand in judgement of others.

Touche!😉

sunights · 24/12/2023 20:10

Are they a member of a union they could discuss this with? Or is the school part of the local authority employee assistance programme?
Asking as I don't know the answer to your question, but have a feeling that if an employee hides something like this from their employer it makes it much worse if the employer later finds out.
An example would be that applicants to policing roles can disclose convictions when they sign up and still be accepted, but if they don't disclose something they are automatically barred from being appointed.

Mrgrinch · 24/12/2023 20:10

Well I wouldn't want someone that negligent and with such complete disregard for the law looking after my kids.

Abbimae · 24/12/2023 20:12

Annnnd another teacher bash. But no not necessarily.

Abbimae · 24/12/2023 20:12

Boohoo I wouldn’t want them looking after my kids etc etc. go and be a teacher and bore off

A judge gave judgement. Their judgement was that this person should not be driving.

She thought she knew better and decided that even though she'd been judged to be unsafe on the roads she'd continue to drive without a license.

Now she'll need to face the next more severe consequence.

Allthatglittersisntart · 24/12/2023 20:19

Met a teacher who was caught drink driving and had to go outside Europe to work as it affected visas and DBS checks. This is was in ESOL industry so a lot less stringent that government schools.
Any conviction will be on the enhanced DBS checks for future jobs.

Yes.

Are you certain, as many are, that she will.lose her job and be stopped from teaching ever again?

You can have convictions and still.be a teacher.

EmptyYoghurtPot · 24/12/2023 20:24

I’ve worked in several different schools over 30 years. The place I work now is part of an academy trust that has very strict rules about ‘bringing the name of the trust into disrepute’. At this school it would be instant dismissal. But I have worked in other places that might have taken into account any mitigating factors etc and just issued a final warning.
As PP said, she is best to consult her Union and school bosses. No one on here can say yes or no for definite.

StarSublime · 24/12/2023 20:27

I know of a head teacher who left their role after a significant drunk driving incident.

I can't actually remember if he resigned or waited to be sacked. I think it would have been extremely difficult, bordering on impossible for him to continue at school once it became public anyway. Court appearances are public information reported in the local paper.

housethatbuiltme · 24/12/2023 20:28

Its not something out of her control on one quick lapse in judgement... to accumulate points means she has broken the law several times to the point she reached the limit of 'warnings' and was punished, she then STILL continued.

It says a LOT about her character and personality... and its not good.

AnneValentine · 24/12/2023 20:30

I should bloody hope so. But knowing this country probably not.

meesh0 · 24/12/2023 20:33

Have you guys asked a solicitor who specialises in such matters?
If it's a custodial sentence then it's very likely your friend will lose the job.
But that doesn't mean they can't re apply again after being released.

It's an irrelevance to the question asked. Pointless response.

LondonQueen · 24/12/2023 20:34

@LuluBlakey1
I was simply providing an anecdote to the OP. I never asked if it was relevant or not.
