To think it's inconsiderate to do gender reveal on Christmas Day

A distant relative of mine has announced they will be doing their gender reveal on Christmas Day. It's not their first child and they previously announced their engagement on Christmas Day too.

AIBU to think they should do it another day so Christmas remains about the whole family?

A gender reveal is inappropriate in itself. Making an announcement on Christmas isn't however. Honestly you sound jealous or bitter. Do you often have trouble feeling happy for others? It's not about you and doesn't need to be.

Off topic but this isn’t the first time if seen this horror. It’s pigs IN blankets. Not AND. They are wrapped up. It’s not pigs and blankets unless you cook the sausage and bacon separately, and then it would be weird to call it that anyway.
Sorry.
As you were.

yep, just a typo.

Cool.
Like I said, not the first time I’ve seen it. They aren’t all typos but apologies if yours was.

I’d be tempted to get a large banner made which you can unfurl at the time of the reveal stating in large letters “Nobody cares”.

Yessss!

Birdcar · 24/12/2023 20:16

'Gender reveal' is a load of nonsense. Just ignore and continue about your day.

Itsbeginingtolookalotlikexmas · 24/12/2023 20:20

Don’t see the issue. Gender reveals are a bit tacky but it’s nice to hear some lovely family news which will take up all of 3 minutes of conversation. You sound a bit joyless.

MRSMTO · 24/12/2023 20:20

I couldn't give a fuck if they announce it at Christmas - can't see how it's ruin anyone's day?

Secondly, I couldn't give a fuck whether it's a girl or boy. It matters not.

Thirdly, I also couldn't give a fuck if they say sex or gender.

PigletJohn · 24/12/2023 20:26

On Boxing Day, or the day after, send message "Congrats. Sorry I was busy over Christmas."

FestiveOstrich · 24/12/2023 20:26

Lots of interesting perspectives, thanks. I'll sit quietly through it and enjoy my mince pies.

It's during our big family meal and I wouldn't normally go to a gender reveal so maybe I do feel a annoyed at being forced into it because it's Christmas. But that's my problem :)

Just get up halfway through and go to the toilet before they get to the reveal, have a good 15 min scroll on MN, then go back and blame the sprouts

Scautish · 24/12/2023 20:35

I think only people of low intelligence do gender reveals so I’d just out it down to stupidity rather than malice. You really have to be as thick as two short planks to think that anyone other than really gives a shit.

Alconleigh · 24/12/2023 20:35

It's tacky as arse but no more so for being at Christmas. As per nearly all other PP, I am delighted to learn someone close to me is having a baby. I am entirely uninterested in what genitalia said baby has.

FreshWinterMorning · 24/12/2023 20:36

Not gonna lie, that is some pathetic and sad attention seeking! Confused I'm embarrassed for them!

ah they’ll be doing it at the place you are celebrating Christmas. I’d just suck it up, it’ll be over quickly. I wouldn’t be making a big deal out of it though and would probably make myself scarce and pop for a short walk if it went on too long.

GlacindaTheTroll · 24/12/2023 20:39

Tacky AF

But think of the fun you could have if it's a boy - start with the Life Of Brian Nativity scene

GoodVibesHere · 24/12/2023 20:39

Maybe they'll announce 'it's a non-binary they/them' Grin

I'd find it a bit uncomfortable because all there is to say is 'oh, congratulations'. It's the awkwardness of it that would annoy me. I just don't get what you're meant to say or do at a 'gender reveal', it's all so alien to me.

YANBU

Gender reveals are bonkers and for narcissists. On Christmas Day is just rude!

Do you know the definition of a narcissist? Having a gender reveal doesn’t make you one of them lol I actually hate gender reveals but i don’t think having one makes you a bad person 🤷‍♀️

Come on, that's not nice.

gabsdot45 · 24/12/2023 20:49

We just had Christmas Eve celebrations with the family and my niece did a surprise gender reveal. No one knew what was planned and it was very low key and lovely.

I wouldnt mind unless they're planning a big palava which will take people away from what they want to be doing

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 24/12/2023 20:57

Gender reveals are a bit cringe, no matter what time of year💤. Leave them to it!

I hate gender reveals with a passion, but that's harsh! Shock

Hard to argue with though. Firmly in the category of "harsh but fair"

CJsGoldfish · 24/12/2023 21:02

Nope, don't see the problem with doing it on Christmas Day.
It's as tacky as you can get no matter what the day but I guess they may has well take advantage of the assembled audience for their naff little ceremony 🤷‍♀️

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 24/12/2023 21:09

Surely it'll just be a "surprise! We're having a boy!" and then everyone chinks glasses?

SheSaidHummingbird · 24/12/2023 21:12

Just say "Aw." And then swiftly move onto another topic. "Time to pull the crackers!"
