Raging temp, shivers, sweats, sore throat, total lack of appetite and nausea if forced.
kids started on Monday and I got it on Wednesday. Started like a regular cold but just gets worse day by day.

It’s got me totally floored in bed. Luckily hubby was working away when we got it so is a few days behind us and not symptomatic yet.

Im on day four now and terrified it’s going to ruin Christmas and put all the lovely food to waste. (Not much is freezable)

if you’ve had it how long did it last? The worst ‘can’t push through’ part.

kids are 2.5 and 3.5 and have been up and down all week. One minute they turn the corner next they’re poorly again x

Just had it, a record 5 days in bed. Still feel exhausted and not at all hungry.

Mummabear310 · 25/12/2023 22:26

Hey everyone, so all started with ear infection Monday night doctor put me on antibiotics and it’s progressively got worse in symptoms, not got a fever but cough is horrendous, full of mucus, blocked nose constantly flushing it out, everytime I cough my head feels like it’s gonna explode! body shakes can’t stand up for long without shaking badly, can taste food but doesn’t interest me, doctors put me on steroids now as “bubbling” on chest. I just want a decent night sleep?? Haven’t tested as I’m not going anywhere and haven’t been out since Monday at doctors and don’t plan to go out as worried I’ll end up loosing balance through the shaking x

beautiful Christmas with kids HAHA!
Merry Christmas 🎄

I need to jump on this thread, I hope that's ok! I have been ill coming up 5 weeks on and off, I feel better for about 3 days every 6 days then I'm floored again, earache, cough, cold symptoms, diarrhea sometimes, went to GP after 2 weeks and they said it was bronchitis. I'm sure it's covid, does that sound likely? Never tested positive. Feel like I would be wasting a doctors time again as it's not debilitating but nasty enough. I just can't believe it's still going on after all this time and I'm usually healthy, fit and active and don't get ill often.

IgnoranceNotOk · 25/12/2023 22:34

Yep! Started with fever at night a week ago last Wednesday! I’d wake in the middle of the night sweating with a raging temp and be up for hours.
throat raw and nose so congested, awful cough that is so dry and just won’t go!
Now I’m almost over it but I’m just so worn out, cough lingering and throat still a bit sore and I’m still snotty!
DS2 had it a few days after me and I actually have given us DS1’s inhaler a couple of times to get our breath back!
DS1 surprisingly just had a bit of a cough and tired but much better than the rest of us and he’s usually worst of all.
DH started a couple of days ago so is feeling rubbish.

It’s awful! Can’t believe so many people have it right now.

Mummabear310 · 25/12/2023 22:42

I just need a decent night sleep! Is this likely to be covid? Not sure what I’m dealing with but antibiotics n steroids have done nothing 🤦🏻‍♀️ OP how are you now?

Pepperama · 25/12/2023 22:52

My son had it. I then got something very similar which 6 days in was a positive Covid test. Was convinced he must have had Covid too and that we just missed the right time to test. Work, school, visiting our elderly relatives etc when we were both clear, just for him to then started actual Covid a few days ago - which is a carbon copy of whatever he had before Christmas minus the gastro problems. Really nasty cold/flu thing with fever and making him very tired.
Poor kid has missed most of the run up to Christmas in school and has now also had a pretty rubbish Christmas. There does not seem to be a time when we’re all healthy at the same time this year!

Changedname23 · 25/12/2023 23:13

Yes have this and tested positive for Covid today

IgnoranceNotOk · 25/12/2023 23:16

Has anyone had toothache from this? Possibly from all the pressure and congestion on your face?

OwlWeiwei · 25/12/2023 23:20

DH is getting over it. Tested negative for Covid. But he has been so ill. DS said he'd never seen him so ill. Barely eaten over Christmas, barely left his bed, raging temperature, nausea, aches, night sweats. I had the same symptoms two months ago but it was definitely Covid. Seems the bugs are all carrying similar symptoms this year.

Mummabear310 · 25/12/2023 23:20

I thought it was toothache on Sunday as was in so much pain side of face neck ear etc done all the toothache home remedies nothing worked. Went doctors confirmed ear infection… symptoms getting worse and worse since I just want sleep. I’ll take a wild guess it’s covid then 🙄

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/12/2023 23:25

I’ve had something like it but it was Covid in my case

fungibletoken · 25/12/2023 23:32

Yep - both DH and I and it was COVID. We'd each only just shaken off some nasty colds when it came.

MsMarshaKlein · 25/12/2023 23:36

I had this two weeks ago. I haven't even had a cold in years but this knocked me for 6. I had two days of wild fever dreams based around The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy due to the fact that I had the audiobook on repeat. I lived off Robinson's Pear and Apple Barley water for a week and lost over half a stone as I couldn't keep any food whatsover in. I'm just glad I caught it then as I'm working all over Christmas and New Year.

MerryChristmas23 · 25/12/2023 23:40

I'm on week 3 now, tested for COVID out of curiosity, negative. Half convinced it was/is strep throat, the stuff coming out of my sinuses was genuinely like mustard! Very alarming but thankfully seem to be over the worst of it now, still sound like I both smoke 80 a day and inhaled helium and have a stuffy nose but no more blinding headaches or feeling like I've got the worst hangover of my life combined with being hit by a bus.

Banrion · 25/12/2023 23:40

Yes we've just had. DD 9 can't shake it off. She's had no appetite or energy now for weeks. It never occurred to me to check for covid!

Mummabear310 · 25/12/2023 23:41

Thankfully I don’t go back to work till 8th kids not back at school till 8th, time to get over whatever it is and I don’t have to go out so I’ll just deal with it. Worse part is my whole body shaking for no reason and the head pain everytime I cough. Antibiotics and steroids just ain’t doing nothing the joys lol hope everyone else feels better soon

Jingleballs2 · 26/12/2023 00:37

IgnoranceNotOk · 25/12/2023 23:16

You have sinuses just above your teeth, so can cause toothache as I found out earlier this year x

Nat6999 · 26/12/2023 00:49

I'm on my third chest infection since mid October, every time I get prescribed antibiotics & then within a couple of weeks, it starts in the other lung. It's right in the base of my lungs, so I'm not coughing, I've a horrendous sore throat this time & a mouthful of sores. Looks like I'm going to be on the phone to the doctors first thing on Wednesday again.

Yellowcakestand · 26/12/2023 01:12

I had it and so did DS. He was ill for 3 weeks solid. Ended with raging ear infection. I've still got the cough 4 weeks on

DC1888 · 26/12/2023 01:58

Its bloody awful so thoughts to everyone going through it.

Developed a sore throat and a headache four days ago. Had no appetite at all (even if I did the pain in swallowing would have been too much). Was completely devoid of energy too. Was thinking covid as a possibility but had no breathing issues or altered smell/taste, so more likely a bad cold which I never get. The headache lasted 24 hours, while it took another 48 hours for gulping to no longer hurt. Was able to eat Christmas dinner normally though did have to leave half of it before eating the rest later. My voice is still very gravelly though.
