Raging temp, shivers, sweats, sore throat, total lack of appetite and nausea if forced.
kids started on Monday and I got it on Wednesday. Started like a regular cold but just gets worse day by day.

It’s got me totally floored in bed. Luckily hubby was working away when we got it so is a few days behind us and not symptomatic yet.

Im on day four now and terrified it’s going to ruin Christmas and put all the lovely food to waste. (Not much is freezable)

if you’ve had it how long did it last? The worst ‘can’t push through’ part.

kids are 2.5 and 3.5 and have been up and down all week. One minute they turn the corner next they’re poorly again x

Oh, and the hospital doc recommended soluble aspirin for the fever. It works more effectively than paracetamol etc.

MrsToothyBitch · 23/12/2023 10:09

Yep, we both have it. DHs is confirmed covid, I'm testing today to see if mine is. Has csused chaos.

Ilovemyshed · 23/12/2023 10:16

There are a few nasty bugs and head colds around. Its not all covid.

Treat as you would pre covid .... rest, paracetomol, fluids.

WimbyAce · 23/12/2023 10:28

Yes have been ill on and off for 3 weeks but this week was the 1 that floored me and spent 2 days in bed. Awful body pains and zero energy, has now turned back into a snotty cold. Kids both been ill on and off. December pretty much been a write off tbh.

Jingleballs2 · 23/12/2023 10:35

Yes, my 5 year old had it and had to have a full week off school. High temp, sweats, severe dizziness where he couldnt walk to the toilet without vomiting, barely ate all week. Lots of kids seem to have been off with it. Tested him for covid - negative.
Just at the tail end of it I started with what seemed like a bad cold - tested - positive. However, the next day, I was much better and has since disappeared 🤷‍♀️ like the shortest lived cold ever. Same with DH, also positive and same symptoms as me

BrightBaubles · 23/12/2023 10:36

This was me..convinced it couldn't be COVID then tested positive today on day 7 of it.

AutumnLeaves333 · 23/12/2023 10:36

We’ve all had it, the nausea is awful like bad morning sickness! Not tested but I’m assuming it’s Covid as I had the exact same nausea last time we had it. My dd has been awake every night this week ‘feeling sick’ but no actual vomiting. They went to their dads last night and I slept for 11 hours straight which I have never done before in my life but finally feeling a bit better today!

stargirl1701 · 23/12/2023 10:37

I had COVID which was awful.

Could yours be the flu?

Ohchristmastree23 · 23/12/2023 10:38

My son just had it. Almost 40 degree temp that wouldn't come down with medicine for ages. Then it would disappear. Then he would spike a fever again out of nowhere. Also cough/cold symptoms. On day 6 now and he's through the worst.

synonymed · 23/12/2023 10:49

Everyone in my family has had it. My mum is still unwell after 5 weeks. My ds 21 is still not feeling well after two weeks, he had such a high temperature. Same with dd, fractured a rib by coughing. My dh who rarely is ill caught it last week on a business trip abroad (London) and is coughing so much. Still in bed which is very unlike him. But tests were negative, old tests though. It’s horrible.

Yeah same here with my ds, he had medicine but still 40 degrees fever. He said himself he wanted to go to a hospital as his head hurt so much.

KingofCats · 23/12/2023 10:56

I’m on day 8. Negative for Covid until day 6. Terrible chesty cough and short of breath, temperature and no appetite. Sore throat earlier on but that’s better now.

ItsNotOkItsNotTheEnd · 23/12/2023 10:57

Yes husband had it but covid test was negative. He was bad for about 3-4 days. Still has night sweats 2 days on but the worst was over after a whole day in bed. I think it would have gone sooner if he had spent the day in bed earlier to be honest

Workway · 23/12/2023 11:07

We currently have it. Same symptoms you describe. Covid test negative though.

SantaExpress · 23/12/2023 11:28

@PinkyBlueMe

yes, you’re right, it’s a new strain of Covid that doesn’t show on LFTs. I ended up at GPS with horrid earache and he confirmed that it was this new strain. The nausea and retching were awful, the tiredness and weakness too. My DP had the coughing version, all other symptoms the same except a cough that hung around.
Sorry, OP, know how you feel!🌸

Dee1224 · 23/12/2023 11:49

Yes - it was Covid for me - came down with it two weeks ago and tested positive and still feel dreadful now, even though I am testing negative. I couldn’t get out of bed for a week🙃. Am not very happy about feeling so ill over Xmas but at least I am now walking wounded.

DH and oldest DS have also been ill, with similar symptoms, but the LFTs didn’t show positive. It would make sense if it was a different strain of Covid which hasn’t shown up on the LFT. It might also explain why I am feeling worse than last weekend if they have reinfected me with a different strain🙃

Youngest adult DS qualified for a Covid booster last month and seems to have escaped the illness this time.

On a related note:

My two DS got Covid in August and were quite sick, then again in September and again in late October, but that time my DH caught it too. Each time the LFTs were positive.

Catching it multiple times doesn’t seem to be giving any immunity at all- or it could have been different strains.

I just wish people who were sick would show a bit of consideration for others and either stay at home or at least wear a mask when out.

Derb · 23/12/2023 11:58

Eurgh my DS has had it and now I've started today. We've got the panto booked today but I've been in bed all morning. Hoping it doesn't ruin Xmas 😞

Nagado · 23/12/2023 12:17

I’m hoping that we’re coming towards the tail end of it. We had exhaustion followed by an upset stomach, followed by a sore throat, followed by snotty noses and now have a bad cough. All because someone thought it would be funny to cough in a family member’s face while they were ill. Cheeky fuck then had the nerve to complain that they’d been upset when family member told them that they’d ruined our family holiday because we’d all been too ill to properly enjoy it.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 23/12/2023 12:28

Yep, DD only had snuffles but DH and I really got hit hard for the week. Shivers, temp, congested, really run down. I did a test but then promptly forgot about it and hours later there wasn't even a control line.

I've been left with lingering sinusitis so that's fun. Didn't get the cough though.

I had both covid booster and flu jab in October.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 23/12/2023 12:37

My daughter had it- 2.5 weeks off school. Tested positive for Covid. Adults in house had had autumn booster and seemed to dodge it

ninadust92 · 23/12/2023 12:38

Yep got it now. Covid :(

Thehonestbadger · 23/12/2023 13:10

just checked and it was 8th November we had covid. poorly for a full 7-10 days with it. So it’s been 5 weeks. I would have thought that was a bit soon to catch it again.

For everyone saying Covid did you have the booster? Wondering if that helps make it milder.

We had a booster. Covid has been brutal, and I am fit & well.
We are all still suffering a couple of weeks on.

Archymum · 23/12/2023 13:54

Those of you who tested negative on day 1/2 of symptoms: it's pretty well known that whatever strain of COVID is currently circulating tends to not show up as a positive LFT until later in the illness- days 5+.

ChewbaccasMrs · 23/12/2023 14:21

Two of us ill here our DD15 and me,we've been ill for 2 weeks with the worst chest infections, both had temperatures going up and down and sore heads and sore throats from all of the coughing.

We're both on antibiotics now but it's still not shifted,I hate being ill over Christmas.
