To think 'how the fuck will we manage'...

Post relates to Disabled Facilities Grant.

Finally, I have a date for the start of our disabled facilities grant (DFG) funded kitchen and bathroom refurb... i have been waiting almost 7 years for this!

2nd of January.

They want to do both at the same time. The contractors are meant to be managed by someone else... but in reality, we're on site - we have to live here and we can't move out whilst the works are done, oh and I also have to work whilst the work is on-going, from home or I have no income.

Um...

This is going to be hell isn't it?

Practical suggestions - DP, myself and three dogs will be spending all day confined to livingroom and back yard, with contractors having to access upstairs, hall and kitchen via the front of the house.

I have space to have kettle and a tub with basic food stuff in here.

We will apparently have a working toilet by the end of each day.

Realistically... how long would one expect this to take. From childhood I recall a similar size kitchen and bathroom job being done by my two parents and some child labour in around four days each, I expect they'll have more people though.. but then I also suspect it benefits them if it takes longer... and they know that whilst I am the client, I am not the person they directly answer to (something I am not overly happy with but theres nothing I can do). I am worried about piss-taking...

Any ideas whatsoever to reduce stress... stress tends to trigger autonomic dysfunction and I am already pretty much buggered working 3 shifts a week (2 til 10, thats another issue, I sleep til 12, ill have to be up and downstairs by 8.30 I expect at the latest!)...

I wish I had a responsible adult do sort this out for me, I realllllllly do, but the only one there is is... me!

Looks great, congratulations! You'll feel marvellous once they're out of the house so you can just use the new space.

DS has had a 'fancy toilet' for many years, absolutely life changing for him.
I love the bath mat - where's that from?

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/02/2024 13:12

Bathmat is from Amazon, i did think it might turn up and be nothing like the pics but actually its great! Time will tell how long it stands up to washing/use but so far so good!

Just being able to shower properly without risk of getting so cold I trigger a flare up of something or horrific muscle spasms has made me feel fantastic, not just clean but like a proper person again!

So glad you're almost there!!
Weirdly I thought of you yesterday when my sons toilet shouted at me in the app saying it needs descaling ☺️

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/02/2024 14:01

Hehehe, ooh, what descaler do you use, I've been informed by the fitter you don't HAVE to use the branded million quid a bottle one, but it has to be just a descaler not a 'cleaning product with descaling properties' IYSWIM...

@WiddlinDiddlin when they fitted it they gave us a bottle, tbh we don't even have limescale so doesn't need it but does tell you to do it in app ( also lights start flashing and wash arms stop working) so ran it through cycle

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/02/2024 17:00

I need to play with the app more.. I have discovered it will work if the phone is in the kitchen and someones on the loo, as the loo is directly above the kitchen.

This is going to be highly amusing next time my sister comes round and invites herself to take a crap on my toilet (she lives round the corner, there is no need!!).

This was such a wholesome thread! So glad you're enjoying your new bathroom and kitchen

PS is that a brick on your bathroom floor?

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/02/2024 17:25

Ahhhhhh the eagle eyes - yes, that is a housebrick, one of two - I er, have the very short legs, and the toilet is a smidgen high. I need one for each foot rather than a single 'squatty potty' that isn't quite right for me and the (very scarce) options there are... grim bits of plastic.

So the 'shitting bricks' (wot a pun) remain until a nice man on Etsy sends me some lovely polished blocks of oak to use instead!

You probably wished you hadn't asked now 😂

Hahaha on the contrary, I'm very happy I asked! 😂
