and if so what do you do and why do you like it?! Posting in AIBU as unsure where-else to post and for traffic!

Thanks.

I’m a civil servant. Work for HMRC carrying out investigations into customers who are suspected of not declaring what they should. I have a lovely team and a great manager. The work is very interesting, pay is not bad either at my grade (compared to where I started). Reasonable working conditions. New office. I can work at home part of the week, but personally I prefer going in.

I'm a remedial hypnotist and love my work - so satisfying to see how people's lives can change within weeks.

Carsarelife · 22/12/2023 17:26

Yes and no. One day it's fine and everything runs as it should and all the team pull together and I come home feeling motivated, and like I've made a difference to some people lives. Ask me on another day and I'm ready to hand my notice in, don't get paid enough, not enough break time, not enough time to myself and too much traffic which made me late for work and home

Yes I do for many reasons.

I work in a golf clubhouse so it involves talking to regular people every day which I like.

It's 9-3 weekdays, it's round the corner from my house, it's not difficult to do and I have no responsibilities bar doing my job and turning up.

It's flexible and I'm hourly paid so I can finish early or start late if I need to because of the kids. If I need to nip out for a dentist/doctors appointment I can just take an hour, if I need to run something to school I'm gone 15 minutes.

The perks come with downsides like no sick pay so if I'm sick or need to stay at home with one of the kids it's unpaid but I've only taken 2 days in 2023, one for me and one for one child. The pay is only minimum wage too so we rely heavily on my husbands income to support us.

I've been there almost 2 years now and I'm quite happy to stay several more. In a couple of years child #1 will be in high school and 3 years later #2 will be following him so that's probably when I will start to look for something a bit better paid assuming I can find a job that pays more than minimum wage anyway!

I’m a teacher and in my school’s Leadership Team. My work is totally and utterly exhausting and can be stressful but I love it.

I laugh with children and colleague every day, get to use my academic specialisms teaching A level and I’m never, ever bored, which is very important to me.

I'm a metalsmith/jeweller and love my job. I'm self employed and feel a buzz every day when I get to my bench. I sell through two websites, local shops and lots of makers/craft fairs, and take on commissions.

I love melting and forming metals, the creative/design side, and the solitary nature of it all - really suits me.

Hello 👋
Another jeweller here!
I love the creative side and making and restoring jewellery. Or making something new out of something old. I like seeing practical tangible results of my days work.
It has been unbelievably stressful this week though with a lot of customers/clients (companies, not the end user) put a lot of pressure to do things in very tight timescales.
Also people don't value your time or experience . If a solicitor says they charge £250/hr or a plumber charges £50/hr, people accept that, if a creative (of any sort!) wants to charge more than minimum wage people are usually huffing about it!!

I used to but I’m starting not to and feel like im at a dead end. Been in the sector for 10 years and feel like I need a change

Love my work in the amusement arcade, but would rather be back as a projectionist after 20yr, heartbreaking the day I left, absolutely no other work like it out there

Busyhedgehog · 22/12/2023 17:50

I love my job. I'm a primary school teacher (albeit not in the UK anymore, which adds to the increase in job satisfaction). I like that every day is different. I get to do fun stuff and think of things my class might enjoy doing. My class are lovely and most of the parents are incredibly supportive. DS attends my school so I get to see him when they've got stuff going on. SLT are very supportive and my school is quite family-friendly.
Being abroad, I also earn a decent salary and due to it being a private school, I also get extra benefits.

I was a mortgage underwriter, which I loved. I now manage underwriters which I absolutely hated at first. I hadn't managed before and I had some problem team members and felt well out of my depth.
But now I am more settled, my team is brilliant and I actually understand and can contribute to meetings.

I love it because it's flexible, although I have certain tasks and meetings each week I can manage my own time. It's rewarding, I have developed my team and seem them promoted, upskilled, etc. I still get to underwrite occasionally as I maintained my mandate. But the absolute best thing is the management team I work with. My boss is fantastic and I work with 3 other excellent managers who have mentored and supported me hugely. I genuinely love them we are like a family. That's what makes a job great in my opinion, the people around you.
