Name changed for this (obvs) and the clue is in the name Xmas Grin

I absolutely love my job because I get to work in a beautiful grade 1 listed building, the visitors are all lovely and we do great community events all year round. I also get to work with the school children when they come on school trips.

And the best part is my 'commute' is a 15 minute walk.

I like the 'nature' of my job as in ; the outcome of my work benefits others and isn't profit-steered. So I do go home feeling I've done a good shift and it's been worthwhile.
I don't like the environment of my job. I'm isolated and reliant upon myself. Support from above is sketchy.
When I come home , exhausted, I weigh up how meaningful the day has been to anyone involved.
I'm also on minimum wage.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 22/12/2023 00:31

I'm a support worker for people who want to live independently in their own home.

RoseMartha · 22/12/2023 01:12

No. I went there as a stop gap while I looked for something else 9 years ago!!! 🙄

Main reason I stayed it fitted in with dd's and their SN needs.

Bumply · 22/12/2023 01:45

I work in IT. Operations role keeping computers up and running.
I like the problem solving, dealing with incidents when things go wrong.
I've got a reputation of being the person to go to for queries. I don't necessarily know the answer, but I'm good at searching resources to find the answer, or who to go to who might know more.

OnBronze · 22/12/2023 02:00

I'm a metalsmith/jeweller and love my job. I'm self employed and feel a buzz every day when I get to my bench. I sell through two websites, local shops and lots of makers/craft fairs, and take on commissions.

I love melting and forming metals, the creative/design side, and the solitary nature of it all - really suits me.

autienotnaughty · 22/12/2023 02:11

I work in a library crap money but great job.

signaturecollection · 22/12/2023 02:32

I am a private therapist with a private practice. I'm self employed and have to say I genuinely love my job. I spent years working customer facing roles in pretty thankless minimum wage paying workplaces. I worked most bank holidays etc with no extra pay and missed out on so much time with my family. At the time it was the only job I knew and I'd been in it for so long I didn't question it. Then I hit my 40s and retrained on a whim. I have never looked back. Being my own boss, having complete control over my working hours etc and only really being answerable to myself (and my clients of course but they are all wonderful) I can genuinely say I have never been happier with my work life and I get so much more time with my family too.

FluffyChemical · 22/12/2023 07:56

I work in the emergency department as an advanced clinical practitioner. I love the role, I like using all my skills to look after people when they are unwell. It is stressful but I've found by dropping to 2 days a week I can have a great work life balance and still have energy left over for myself on my days off.

Tozin · 22/12/2023 08:08

I love my job. It’s part of who I am. I get paid well and I’d be devastated to leave.
i am self employed and I think this is a huge part of why I love my job. I can dictate how much holiday I take, my hours etc.

PinkLadyLove · 22/12/2023 08:12

I'm a designer. I adore it. Just started a new role that pays close to 50k and when I become more senior expect to earn 70 to 80k.

OT2023 · 22/12/2023 08:16

Finally have my favourite job as an OT

I have worked in NHS, social services in peads and older people.

I am now band 8 clinical specialist. I work across different sites and have enough time to do my work. Love my colleagues. Clients are engaged. It’s great.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 22/12/2023 08:19

I work for an arms length non-departmental government body, I manage the competitive process of awarding grant funding. I really enjoy the job, it's complex, busy and challenging but I feel like I contributing to society. The funding we award goes to businesses and research organisations and some of the innovation research that I get to read about blows me away.

mammabing · 22/12/2023 08:23

I’m a primary school teacher. From 8.30-3.30 it’s the best job. It’s the extra hours which suck. The list of extra jobs is never ending and so time consuming. And despite what people may think the holidays aren’t that great considering how many days of them you spend working in order to stay on top of things.

HellsAngel81 · 22/12/2023 08:36

I mostly love my job (registered veterinary nurse).

I love that my role plays a huge part in the health and welfare of animals.

I love that I get to release my inner-science geek on a daily basis.

I love that you continously learn/see something new.

I love that there is so much more CPD and accredited courses available now (compared to when I entered this profession 25yrs ago).

And of course I love my patients (and most of their parents).

I DON'T love the crap pay, the lack of recognition outside of the veterinary world, or the verbal abuse from some clients. I am also not loving the various aches and sprains that have developed over the years 😂

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 22/12/2023 08:40

Prison officer ... yes I enjoy it. Never a dull moment and always someone to talk to

It's a men's category B

Nap1983 · 22/12/2023 08:42

Im a nurse… I dont hate it, but it has its moments

Malarandras · 22/12/2023 08:44

I like my job yes. The pay is pretty good, limited amounts of stress and very flexible. There are other jobs I think I would find more interesting but I’ve too much to loose leaving my current job so I likely never will!

DilemmaDelilah · 22/12/2023 08:44

When I started working in my job ten years ago I hated it. However since then the nature of the job has changed somewhat, I am more skilled and experienced, so better at it, the particularly toxic people have moved on and we have a good team now, and most of all I can work from home. I am also proud to work for the NHS - I have done so for nearly 25 years now.
Given all that - I don't mind my job - but I wouldn't say I like it.

MincePieGal · 22/12/2023 08:49

I’m a solicitor, working in litigation. I mostly love my job, though like anything there are aspects I find harder to deal with.

Its extremely varied and interesting. I get to learn about new things all the time. It forces me to use my brain and offers a good deal of intellectual stimulation. I enjoy the atmosphere of being in court. There is a competitive element which is compelling.

The downsides are that the hours can be long and the stress is, at times, very high. It can be hard to manage client expectations and keep them happy (particularly because I mainly do defence work, which means I’m usually a distress purchase). There is a fair amount of tedious admin (feeing, chasing unpaid bills, time recording) which I find very boring and unrewarding.

Overall though I really enjoy it and I can’t think of many other jobs that would be as interesting and challenging.

StoatofDisarray · 22/12/2023 08:51

Yes, I do. I work in a university with very bright young people, most of whom have a genuine passion to work on real world problems and will go into jobs where they will be doing this. I can walk to work in about 35 minutes, and work in a Grade 2 listed building, where I have my own office. I have good mangers, smart and pleasant colleagues and the ability to be flexible about my hours/wfh. I get a total of 47 days paid leave per year. Only downside is the pay isn't great (I'm a band 6).

MooQuackNeigh · 22/12/2023 08:52

I'm a self employed 3d designer and artist. Mostly work in landscape and construction doing 3d rendered visualisations and scale plans. It took a decade of less then perfect jobs to get here but I love it.

I mostly subcontract for other building companies which means I deal mostly with other professionals rather then customers which suits awkward me just fine and means 90% if my time is spent drawing which is a real privilege. Ive just put my prices up to £27 per hour!

SallyWD · 22/12/2023 08:58

I work part time hours in admin at a university. I like my job because it's mentally stimulating but not stressful. I like earning money, I love going in to the office. I work with three other people and we're all quite alike and get on brilliantly. I like the way my job fits around family life as I always wanted my focus to be the children.
I do regret not focusing on establishing a well paid career when I was younger.
I do

Hoglet70 · 22/12/2023 09:01

I don't hate it!
I'm an Administrator and have a lot of autonomy so in terms of what I do and the lack of hassle I get then I should be quite happy but the company politics tend to get in the way. Have been there a long time though and I appreciate the grass is always greener so wouldn't particularly want to leave. I have a good group of people in my office and although I don't go to work for the people, I would miss them if I were to go elsewhere.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/12/2023 09:02

I like my job for now but I don’t love it.
I’m a data officer for a charity. I work from home. I have a really good work/life balance. I get to do techy things with spreadsheets. in work with nice people.
however- I could do so much more and I get bored, and I miss working with people face to face sometimes. And some parts of it are really really dull.
