Asking for half of parking ticket

So, messy night out.

Ended up going home accidentally with someone else's coat. Everyone was drunk may I add.

Their wallet, keys etc were in the coat and said person had parked their car in the town that night then was planning to get the car in the morning.

I got coat to them by 12.

Message today to say they got a parking ticket. Asked me to pay half the ticket.

I have paid half as didnt want to get in an argument.

AIBU to think its a little bit cheeky considering it wasnt my decision for them to park their car there or is the other person reasonable for asking?

I would have paid all of their ticket and you are a CF for not doing so unless they were able to extend their parking time (you can't everywhere as some places have a maximum stay) in which case they are the CF.

I mean would have been a CF given that you paid the whole lot! Sounds like it was ringo though and he would def been able to have extended that (the app wouldn't know that youndidn't go home at 4am abd return at 8) so he is the cf.

You did the right thing. Although I have to point out that your "It was a bit annoying to me that there wasn't really a need for the car to be there anyhow (boss offered to pay everyone's taxis)" Please DON'T say that to them. You are making a judgement that you don't have the information to make, so don't make it. There could be loads of reasons why the needed the car not a taxi: they might have HAD to be home for a certain time to relieve a partner or babysitter and so not been able to rely on a taxi; they could be a survivor of rape and not feel safe alone with a man they don't know; they could have a medical condition which means they might sudden feel bad and might need to be home in 15 mins rather than maybe waiting for a taxi for 15 mins before driving home. So no, it was annoying for them that you took their coat and they couldn't use the car they needed. You having to return the keys was a totally fair result of your mistake.(You may have annoyed yourself by making the mistake, but nothing they did was annoying to you.)
