How can I make £1000 quickly?

Not a begging thread! Even if people offered money I wouldn't take it!

My car caught fire driving home from work last night. The engine is fucked and it'll never run again. I'll get probably £3-400 scrap value for it so that's a start. Realistically looking at about £1000 for a new car - I can't get to work without one (genuinely - the closest public transport stops miles away and due to the condition of the lanes it's not safe to walk the rest of the way!)

I'm sorting some stuff out to go on vinted which might get me another £50 or so. And some models/pocket dragons that will get about the same.

A loan or a credit card isn't an option - I'm already struggling monthly without adding another payment!

The fastest way is to get a loan

start with your own bank via online banking

then use the other money making ideas in parallel to boost income in parallel

the payments will not be that high over a longer term , you are looking at about £30 a month

How many fucking times can I say I agree with your point but it's not relevant to previous conversation PP and I were having - for you to then just repeat your irrelevant point. I know the bailiffs aren't coming if you discuss it with the companies.

They are due on the same ratio unless you change the ratio. Pp thinks at the same ratio you can do both. You can't if there is no spare money. That's my point. And in that point there is no mention of Chang the ratio.

You are essentially discussing turtles being green and then saying yeah but the sky is blue. It is. Great point. But it's not really fucking relevant.

I give up.

The Royal Mail are short staffed over Xmas, so may have some casual roles: https://christmasrecruitment.royalmailgroup.com/

Peacheroo · 17/12/2023 08:49

@AnneValentine they do. On pay day. If they earn that much. If they don't, they move it out and back in. It is then free to be used on the bills. But the criteria (that £1250 was deposited) has been met so op gets the cash back. There is no laying around.

Guys can you please stop arguing? For a start my utility bills have been paid for this month and aren't more than £200 anyway so won't make a difference! I'm also not willing to get into debt with the companies!

Have you got a quote for a new engine op? You might be better investing in that than a £1000 car. As you said scrap value is 3k so I’m presuming it’s not a very old car.

and you could apply for a credit card and put the cost on that?

I said 300-400 scrap value! 😕

If the scrap value of the car is £300-£400 then you'll need another £600? Is this less than the cost of the repair? In terms of raising the money the obvious would be family members, followed by selling anything you can. You could also look into the possibility of charitable grants/loans. Citizens Advice could help you identify potential trusts. Obviously the trust would have to be assured you were in the situation through no fault of your own and had tried every alternative. If you felt uncomfortable you could always donate it back when your situation improved. Unfortunately though it would take a while for an application to be processed so not an immediate solution.

Sorry to throw your thread.

If you do have £3/400 from scrap and if you're willing to change your bank that's £5/600 so half way there. I changed banks to first direct (£175 - NatWest pay more but that's who I moved from) and I was surprised how quickly they paid (I wouldn't recommend FD as a bank) but I planned it around payday so once it completed the money was paid the next day or so.

As part of that bank change you could look at overdraft? I know it doesn't solve the problem but it's closer!

Wow. Thanks for your fucking well phrased fucking opinion that wasn't relevant to my fucking point fucking either! Invested much?! 😂

Sorry OP. I hope you find a solution. Have any of the ideas so far helped? If any of them sounds potentially useful, we might be able to help you further down the same path?

Indifferentchickenwings · 17/12/2023 11:47

'm also not willing to get into debt with the companies!

a small fixed term loan with the bank you use won’t ‘get yoU into debt with the companies’

a small controlled loan is the most feasible way to end this stress

look I get it and no one wants ‘debt’
but a small fixed term loan isn’t anyway like getting into credit card debt (worse ) or a payday loan (even worse !)

and let’s hope the universe finds a way

I was never trying to make my point relevant to yours. I was continually pointing out its irrelevance despite you repeating the same information and saying it was relevant.

Honestly? Does it even matter? What do you actually want here? I continually repeated you'd made a great point that I agreed with you for you to be quite rude and argumentative until I honestly just can't be arsed with it. I'm not saying I wasn't rude and argumentative but I just don't see what you're doing.

PlipPlopChoo · 17/12/2023 11:51

Can you buy a cheap bike until you can save up for a car?

Watchkeys · 17/12/2023 12:04

It's hard to advise any further without knowing more about your income and expenditure. If you're paying back non-priority debts, that could make a huge difference, for example. Is pride standing in the way of you asking someone for help, possibly?

There are jobs you can do online, like transcribing and proof-reading, but I'm not sure how quickly those would start to pay. Might be worth thinking about.
