might do these @Wellhellooooodear

Nice! I want something easy to slow cook as we go to the pub for a drink on Christmas eve so don't want to faff, this looks lovely 😊

Girasoli · 15/12/2023 19:12

We go to the children's evening Mass (with DC dressed up) and then get fish and chips. DC have a bath with bath bombs and then get to unwrap a new book each for bedtime. DH and I stay up late wrapping and eat Santa's cookies.

SunshineIndoors123 · 15/12/2023 19:12

We have a cheese board and red wine for dinner on Christmas eve, because we're always too full for it on Christmas day after dinner and want to appreciate it 😀 We've done this for the last 3 or so years and I honestly can't remember what we did before. Possibly we had a takeaway.

Meadowflower2023 · 15/12/2023 19:22

We pop to my grans for a few babyshams early evening (Christmas tradition) try to be home for around 7 and have a lovely big charcuterie board with a baked Camembert in the middle and lots of gin.

43ontherocksporfavor · 15/12/2023 19:26

@Wellhellooooodear me too!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/12/2023 19:27

DD3 is hosting Christmas this year. So Christmas Eve will just be me and DD1 (who is coming over on the day because her partner is going to her parents for Christmas). I've asked DD1 what she wants to eat and she said 'baked Camembert and breadsticks' so it will be crudities, dips, the baked cheese and any mince pies/gingerbread that I may have left over. We'll sit about and chat and do some Christmas prep (I'm in charge of desserts for Christmas, so I've got to do some baking), then watch Muppets Christmas Carol, walk the dog, and try to get an early night! Christmas Day will be four of my kids and two partners, plus me and the dog and it will be frantic, so I need to gather my strength.

Brown buffet= lots of terrible things in pastry or breadcrumbs from the freezer/chiller section. I cook Christmas dinner from scratch including canapes, puddings etc, but if I'm totally honest I'm more into the frozen vol au vents the night before.

Ah interesting we call it a beige buffet!

NotFastButFurious · 15/12/2023 19:35

We’re going out for a late lunch this year so probably toast!! We don’t have a tradition around Xmas eve, I quite often see friends and they do something easy like chilli in the slow cooker or pizza. If I was hosting Xmas it would probably be something with minimal prep such as frozen fish, chips and peas.

mylittleprince · 15/12/2023 19:39

@jemenfous37 I often go to church on Christmas Eve, I love the church all decorated and I love singing the carols, and seeing the kids all acting out the nativity. To me it's just a nice story being told, I just don't believe any of it actually happened. I don't join in with the prayers, but I will bow my head out of respect.

Daisies12 · 15/12/2023 19:40

We get an Indian takeaway

MissingMoominMamma · 15/12/2023 19:41

I just make something nice and drink snowballs whilst I wrap stuff…

BusySittingDown · 15/12/2023 19:45

We always have Domino's pizza and watch Home Alone in our new pyjamas. As we open the pizza I always have to say "a lovely cheese pizza, just for me" a la Kevin McCallister, even if it's not actually a plain cheese pizza.

All2Well · 15/12/2023 19:47

We like something light and healthy before all the rich food starts, the past few years we've enjoyed fish dishes...having Smoked Haddock Kedgeree this year and salad, using Mary Berry's recipe.

Stress101 · 15/12/2023 19:50

We always get a takeaway on Christmas Eve. All showered, new pyjamas, house spotless, Christmas lights on and watch a movie. Its my favourite part of Christmas.

jemenfous37 · 15/12/2023 18:39

@TheTurn0fTheScrew You cannot be a commited atheist and go to church, even on Christmas eve.
Taking the piss out of both church-goers and atheists

They can if they want to! 😎

Rainbow1901 · 15/12/2023 19:54

Ham, egg and chips!!

Originalusername89 · 15/12/2023 19:56

We always have fish pie.

DD1 is two and a half this year so expect we'll be starting some new traditions too.

Watching Muppets Christmas Carol will definitely be one :D

Rudolphtherednoseddog · 15/12/2023 19:58

Christmas roast dinner. We have picky party food buffet type things on Christmas Day.

Not sure how this tradition started but it works well for us.

Pickingmyselfup · 15/12/2023 20:01

I make lasagne and we go and see the street lights up the road whilst it's cooking. This year I might take the kids to work where there are Xmas festivities like carols, I know a few people going so it might be nice to pop down for an hour.

After dinner we will try and watch the snowman and then do a Santa plate then it's the kids bedtime. We stay up as late as necessary to finish sorting stuff out for the next day.

I prep as much as I can for the food the following day.

Xmas day starts with the kids opening their stockings whilst we stay in bed then it's coffee time and present time before breakfast and buck's fizz. Once we've tidied up I'll make a start on the dinner which is always OTT for 2 adults and 2 kids but I enjoy the cooking and especially the eating. I outsource the potato and carrot peeling and chopping to the husband though, it's the bits of cooking I can't stand.

TheMousePipes · 15/12/2023 20:02

Tapas in our house. Garlic chilli Prawns, chorizo in red wine, Patatas Bravas, meatballs, lots of cheese and charcuterie and some fabulous bread. Accompanied by good fizz and then a nice sit down.

thedukeofbuckinghamshire · 15/12/2023 20:05

I did enjoy the pre kids days when we just got hammered at the pub, especially if it was a work day and we could head out after work! We don't have anything we do every year, different depending where we are and who we're with. But usually normal dinner from whatever is in fridge/freezer, maybe start on a bit of cheese etc, then one of us in bed for half seven with the youngest. Other one has responsibility for stockings and presents! We are not really ones for having traditions we do every year.

Tooshytoshine · 15/12/2023 20:09

We cook the kids a big fake away pizza and they don't notice we don't eat much. Then we watch a movie with a big baked camembert, french bread, charcuterie, olives etc and watch an Xmas film like last year it was die hard.

I want to go where you're going! What is piglet humus? I've googled but none the wiser. But I'd probably have that...

AxolotlEars · 15/12/2023 20:13

We either go out for a meal, have fish and chips or a takeaway...anything that means I am not cooking! Hoping to have all Christmas day food prepped on the Saturday
