So I've been this morning to a new hair salon, since my usual lady of 7+ years has moved away.

I asked for highlights, but have just got home to natural light and feel like they're white yellow and streaky? Am I over analysing? I asked for a cool blonde, almost icy..

What do I do? I don't feel particularly satisfied with what I've got 😢

When my new hairdresser made me a little too stripey (imo) I moved my parting which helped. I would also do the opposite of people saying use a toner or purple shampoo, and allow them to fade, so there's less contrast with your natural colour. Worked for me!

I'm also upset as she cut a LOT of hair off when giving me a trim. I've gone from long mid back length to collarbone length because each time she trimmed it she said it wasn't even. I'm just gutted.

Oh my god
Definitely complain about that.

Cupcakekiller · 15/12/2023 20:13

It doesn't look right. There's about an inch of very block strips then it's all the same shade of blonde.

ideallyno · 15/12/2023 22:00

Sorry for the delays I've been at work this evening. A member of staff asked if I had my hair done! I said yes and she didn't say anything else 😂🥴 I am still feeling the same way about it :(

Are you going to complain tomorrow? We’re all behind you, let us know how it goes.

I'd be very upset with this result OP, it looks very cheap and obvious.

QueenMegan · 15/12/2023 22:36

I think they look pretty. I like the contrast. Purple shampoo will definitely make a huge difference

ideallyno · 15/12/2023 23:09

Yes I've written to the hairdressers to ask for a refund / partial refund. They have offered to correct it for me but i don't feel as though I'd like to go back there. I feel a bit nervous now. Does that make me awful? I feel it as I write this BlushSad

That looks really bad! The same has happened to me before, I went to another hairdresser and she put a quasi dye on my hair and turned it all brown again. Not what I wanted but better than the bad stripy highlights! A quasi dye is semi permanent so it washes out as your own hair grows in, I had to keep my hair in a short bob for a year until all of the highlights were cut off.

RelaxedPigeon · 15/12/2023 23:22

I think it looks nice OP, but if you are unhappy with it then it needs sorting out. I think a lot of the comments are over dramatic and unkind. If I saw you on the street I'd just think oh she has nice hair.

I'm not going to lie to you. I think she has done a stunning job and would definitely go to her as a colourist. When you ask for highlights that is what you want. Some people prefer it blended but that is the actual look. Looks stunning Blush

ideallyno · 15/12/2023 23:33

I've tried it tied up and it does seem to look a little better. But a shame as I wanted to be able to wear it down :(

Usually a more senior stylist will make adjustments
Ask for this.
It's awkward but it's worth it if they want your future business
Explain you aren't confident in the stylist you had because communication was misunderstood.

I think it will settle down, live with it a week and then see how things are.
Ask for an appointment for next week you can always cancel it.

dothehokeycokey · 15/12/2023 23:39

@ideallyno

I would go back in and show them first before refusing to or going elsewhere.

It's a case of the chunkier pieces needing to be broken up with base colour and some more finer lighter foils weaved where it's striped looking.

Either that or you could have a root tap which would just blend it so it's not to stark looking.

It does need breaking up and softening I agree.

goMe46 · 15/12/2023 23:39

In my experience a change to your usual colour takes some adjusting to.

I was so shocked (a few times) by different colours but it was sorted in the end.

Sometimes it's just a matter of time , and sometimes it's a wash with something posh at the salon and all is improved.
See what they can do to make you feel more comfortable.

Holy crap - I would be absolutely livid. I can't believe that cost you £120! If they have space then get a colour specialist to sort you out. Sorry OP, that's terrible.

ideallyno · 16/12/2023 10:44

Thanks everyone. They have offered me a full refund which is really kind, so I'm taking that. I've managed to style it a bit better today, I think.
