Is it mean? Love the names and this is the only reason not to choose them but will they hate us for it when their peers figure it out!?

Same @newtovanlife! I work in the Veterinary industry and DIC is also known as Death is Coming! 😬 Not what I’d choose to call a beautiful new baby. And that’s before you even consider the other connotation!

At my former uni, your email address consisted out of your initials. Your kid could be dic@uni for the next 3 years. My partner's sports team also puts their initials on their kit, so it does resurface regularly. We did pay attention when naming whether the initials would do anything unfortunate.

Thanks everyone! Good point about the email addresses, hadn't considered that. I don't think we want to add an extra name but there is an alternative spelling of the middle name which would solve the problem.

Son's Grammar also put initials on pe kit so DIC probably not the best around teens. Dickhead they'd be called I imagine...

I never understand these threads, your initials including your middle name never get used?

At my DC’s school they all have to have their initials on their school hoodies and on their school bags.

Some schools give the teacher's initials on timetables. I can't imagine trying to teach year 9 once they realise that the initials are DIC.

Where I work, a custom has evolved where everyone is known by their initials in IT and they're also used as nicknames (eg "Can I have a word, CB?"). If your child came to our workplace and there was another person with the initials DC, they would be known as DIC all the time. And I am afraid people would notice what it spelt, though I'd like to think we'd be too grown up to point it out. I'd go with IDC and use D as the given name.

My mind went straight to disseminated intravascular coagulation and wondered why you'd have such an issue with those initials.... clearly my mind is too pure :D

as a nurse, this was also my first thought 😁

If your child graduates from Imperial College, they would get to be D.I.C DIC!

Girl at my school ended up with initials HIV which was super unfortunate.

add a middle name. Don’t call them by a middle name, it’s a pain in the arse.
