Is it mean? Love the names and this is the only reason not to choose them but will they hate us for it when their peers figure it out!?

OP posts:

If your child graduates from Imperial College, they would get to be D.I.C DIC!

I honestly don't think this is as much of an issue as parents think, I can't remember a time when anyone was made fun of because their initials spelled something funny!

No need to put even more pressure on yourself, if you love the name then go for it

Me. I was made fun of for my initials.

OhmygodDont · 15/12/2023 17:43

One of my children’s schools use name and all initials in the school used emails. So yours would be Daisy.dic@sillybillyschool in this case.

RandomButtons · 15/12/2023 17:48

Add in another middle name.

Mazuslongtoenail · 15/12/2023 17:48

I never understand these threads, your initials including your middle name never get used?

Treesinmygarden · 15/12/2023 17:51

No, just don't. All the names I liked for my youngest started with J... only our choice of first name begins with B... so we didn't!!

Elclr · 15/12/2023 17:54

First though was "drunk in charge" but that's due to work. Every time I wrote it I never saw the connection to genitalia....

gerispringer · 15/12/2023 17:54

I was a teacher and kids were definitely teased about their initials , even when read backwards. So no, avoid OP

arewedoneyet · 15/12/2023 17:55

Just in case your child ever works in law, or another profession that bills time, don't do it, it'll be their billing initials for the whole of their career

MinnieMountain · 15/12/2023 17:58

We changed to order of DS’s middle names to avoid EDL.

CherrySocks · 15/12/2023 17:58

If you insert your maiden surname (assuming it isn't already in there) as the third name - does that help or make it worse?

WaitingForMojo · 15/12/2023 17:58

Those saying nobody ever writes their initials down… we do, all over everything, at work!

WaitingForMojo · 15/12/2023 17:59

Agree with adding another initial.

Dora Rosamund Ingrid Cook

David Ian George Clark

etc etc

BoohooWoohoo · 15/12/2023 18:00

Say your surname is Cole.
I’ve been assigned email addresses in the format of [email protected] or [email protected]
Add another middle name or go for IDC

Rocksonabeach · 15/12/2023 18:02

Just add in a Hugo eg DIHC

So do we! Our work emails are our initials. So it would be [email protected] If you don't have a middle name, or there's already a DIC they use the next initial of your surname, so [email protected] for example. But it's set up automatically for your first day so you can't change it.

Same with initialing any work, it's always done with the same initials as our email address so we can see who it was. They'd be writing DIC all over their drafts.

HotGirlInHell · 15/12/2023 18:03

There was a thread on here the other day about kids teasing others based on their names, and quite a few teachers said it doesn't really happen, unless it initials!

LittleBrenda · 15/12/2023 18:03

Mazuslongtoenail · 15/12/2023 17:48

But they do. Confused in email addresses for example in schools.

Notmetoo · 15/12/2023 18:06

I don't think it would matter really as middle names are rarely used anyway but if it bother you just give them two middle names so it doesn't spell anything

Mazuslongtoenail · 15/12/2023 18:07

I still think it’s a non issue. My initials spell a not particularly pleasant word and it’s honestly caused me zero issues in life.

CornishPorsche · 15/12/2023 18:09

Meh, I was picturing it as Death In Custody or Drunk In Charge....

HikingforScenery · 15/12/2023 18:10

It took me a while too :)

MizzMarple · 15/12/2023 18:17

At the 5 universities I have studied or worked at the email addresses use full initials. So they are used and known.

UnfortunateTypo · 15/12/2023 18:19

People really over think initials. My DD is 20 and still hasn’t noticed her initials are LEG 😁

Have the names you want!

Peachy2005 · 15/12/2023 18:22

DS and I had a good laugh about this a while back as his football coach got them all bodywarmers/gilets(?) and had unexpectedly put their first and last name initials on the front. I (immaturely) mentioned it was good his friend whose initials are BJ wasn’t in his club and there was much hilarity when he told me some of the other unfortunate initials in his school year group (ASS, VD, STD, SO’B etc).
