Have they ruined Lindt now as well?

Got bought a Lindt Teddy. My absolute favourite. Hadn't had one for about 18 months, settled down with a nice cuppa, ready to enjoy it. It tastes totally different!!

Best 70 percent was Green and Blacks Velvet (discontinued) but Lindt and the Co-op are good. Again M&S is awful. Lidl tastes awful but I like the texture. Morrisons is very reasonable as is Sainsburys Venezuelan. Tesco’s is crap.

I've yet to meet a milk chocolate I didn't like. Unless they put something wrong in it like fruit or nuts.

Delphigirl · 13/12/2023 18:10

Will try Waitrose no 1 thanks

I bought a box of Lindor balls from B&M and they definitely tasted lower quality than the ones from Tesco. It's not the first time I've noticed that, or are my tastebuds just judgemental bastards that should mind their own business and let me enjoy the bloody stuff 😞

I bought some Coke Zero from B&M and it doesn't taste the same as when I buy it from Tesco's

That's interesting. I wonder if it's made more cheaply specifically for the cheaper shops or if the cheaper shops buy seconds. I would have thought it could be a storage issue but it shouldn't be with the Coke.

In Switzerland these are the main ones - Teuscher, Sprüngli, laderach

Maybe they’ve changed the master chocolatier who handcrafts them?

That made me laugh ! Thankyou.

CocteauTwin · 13/12/2023 21:42

I haven't had any Lindt chocolate for a while, but was near a Lindt shop a few weeks ago and bought a pick 'n' mix to have over Christmas. I haven't tried it yet so don't know if the taste/formula has changed yet.

Regarding the B&M point, some cheaper shops (B&M, Savers, Home Bargains) sell Coke made in Ireland or Malta and I have noticed it sometimes tastes different. It might be a storage issue, perhaps the formula is tweaked for different markets, or it might be short dated.

B&M sell Australian Cadbury's chocolate, however my personal favourite is Irish Cadbury's - the Golden Crisp bar in particular. It tastes so much better than the British formula. Sadly since Brexit it has become very expensive in the UK so it's a rare treat now.

Would love to know what people think makes a good chocolate bar.

I can't understand people saying they can taste the palm oil in Lindt when it doesn't contain any. My guess is that people like to dis anything that they deem as popular. Same with hotel chocolate- people saying it's low in cocoa and high in sugar when it contains higher amounts of cocoa than the posh chocolates they are recommending.

LadyEloise1 · 15/12/2023 16:46

@CocteauTwin
Could the Coke taste different because of the water content ?
The main ingredient listed is carbonated water and water in different areas tastes different.

Lindt has always been the emperor's new clothes of the chocolate world. It's awful!

Hear! Hear!
I've always said it tasted 'off'
It's revolting

yarnwitch · 15/12/2023 17:00

I had some Lindt balls recently and I thought they were slightly different. Not quite as moreish, harder to bite into, and ever so slightly smaller.

I think it's how they store it or they are selling older stock. I've noticed coke doesn't taste as good if its a bit old but still in date. I won't buy chocolate from the likes of B&M as it always tastes 'off'. Its a shame as they usally have a huge choice and the more unusal bars.

Lindor balls certainly have palm oil though.

Those balls have probably always had palm oil as the centre isn't pure chocolate. But we're not talking about the balls, we're talking about the milk chocolate itself in the reindeer/teddies and chocolate bars.

FancyFanny · 13/12/2023 17:07

All chocolate is cheap, tasteless and has a greasy after-taste according to mumsnet! Only the super-exclusive shop on your local upmarket highstreet where you've actually no idea what it is made of tastes good according to the MN wisdom!

Aldi and lidl 85% are good

Skethylita · 15/12/2023 18:26

No! I have always sworn by Lindt as a palm-oil-free brand. The balls that I got are still fine, but Ritter Sport has really become disgusting - far too sweet and the texture is all off.

Milka and Aldi's own brand it is, then.

Soy lecithin has the same effect if you are sensitive to emulsifiers. But thanks for the psychoanalysis.🙄

My definition of a good chocolate bar is one that both tastes good and doesn't almost immediately need to leave the building.
