Have they ruined Lindt now as well?

Got bought a Lindt Teddy. My absolute favourite. Hadn't had one for about 18 months, settled down with a nice cuppa, ready to enjoy it. It tastes totally different!!

Aldi Moser Roth is excellent and like Lindt should be. Ritter Sport not bad either.

Decent chocolate is becoming a luxury item.
I vote montezuma

I think that one has been ruined too. I was given a Montezuma advent calendar and the chocolate is so unpleasant that I only ate the first two and will use the others for baking.

I thought Lindt got palm oiled several years ago?

It certainly has palm oil now 🥲

HotGirlInHell · 13/12/2023 17:03

I always assumed there was palm oil in it because it's so creepily smooth.

crochetmonkey74 · 13/12/2023 17:06

Dunno if recipe has changed but it is 100% definitely different

All chocolate is cheap, tasteless and has a greasy after-taste according to mumsnet! Only the super-exclusive shop on your local upmarket highstreet where you've actually no idea what it is made of tastes good according to the MN wisdom!

FancyFanny · 13/12/2023 17:09

FYI there's no palm oil in Lindt teddies.

AdoraBell · 13/12/2023 17:10

I second Waitrose No1

No, the good chocolate comes from the super expensive shop and the budget supermarkets that import foreign brands. Both on here and in real life.

LauderSyme · 13/12/2023 17:16

Why oh why oh why can't we have nice things anymore?

Oh we can, but they'll break the bank.

😥

Twatalert · 13/12/2023 17:17

I have no sympathy for companies like that. I stopped buying it years ago. I discovered Waitrose No1, or Divine milk chocolate or the high end Lidl milk choc. M&S milk choc is also good. I buy the Lidl high end one now as it comes close to waitrose and divine but is cheaper.

If I want a chocolate figure I buy a Kinder Santa or a Ferrero Rocher reindeer or whatever shape it is.

It's devastating when chocolate changes but luckily I have found alernatives.

Lindt is the triumph of marketing over common sense.
I lived in Switzerland. It’s literally shit pushed on other nations who know no better. Tragic.

Planesmistakenforstars · 13/12/2023 17:20

Yes! It used be so creamy, you could only have a little bit.

Speak for yourself!

What do the Swiss eat then?

Maybe they’ve changed the master chocolatier who handcrafts them?

🤣🤣🥲

ILoveMoonDaisies · 13/12/2023 17:22

I feel the same about Cadbury's fruit and nut. I hadn't had it for years, having been cutting right back on dairy. But recently bought a large bar as a treat and it was awful - just sickly sweet goo basically!! My DH totally agreed.

Nope not me. My favourite was always Cadbury but that's gone horrible. Lindt was a treat, that's also now not the same .

I was disappointing last year too but I much prefer dark chocolate anyway. Lidl own brand 70% dark chocolate- that's good chocolate

gotomomo · 13/12/2023 17:26

Top tip for gifts, don't buy high st chocolates, buy aforementioned Lidl chocolate, double cream, butter, booze of your choice and cocoa powder, melt chocolate gently with a little water in microwave, add butter, booze and a little cream, form into balls, roll in cocoa ... easy to make vegan too. I've made 2 batches so far

FreeAdamsApples · 13/12/2023 17:39

I bought a box of Lindor balls from B&M and they definitely tasted lower quality than the ones from Tesco. It's not the first time I've noticed that, or are my tastebuds just judgemental bastards that should mind their own business and let me enjoy the bloody stuff 😞

Shufflebumnessie · 13/12/2023 17:41

Lindt chocolate is vile, and always has been. It has an awful, greasy taste and a peculiar texture. I have never understood why it seems to be deemed a 'premier' chocolate brand

Justicebieber · 13/12/2023 17:46

Läderach

Justicebieber · 13/12/2023 17:47

Sorry, failed to link - that was in reply to @Twatalert

DepartureLounge · 13/12/2023 17:55

Lindt went down the toilet a couple of years ago - literally if you react to palm oil the way I do.

Their xmas reindeer and Easter bunnies etc aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be, but their regular bars of chocolate are still okay, I think. (Or maybe I just eat them in slightly less copious quantities?)

Hard to say what would make a good alternative but I'd be delighted if anyone finds out.

AmethystSparkles · 13/12/2023 17:55

No I stole one of the teddies I’d bought as a present and it tasted the same as always. It’s still the best mid-range milk chocolate along with Moser Roth. The worst mid-range chocolate is M&S and Tony’s.
