Currently people who pose questions have no facility to delete their user inspired content.

AIBU to think this is unfair and unreasonable?

What is user inspired content?

KrisAkabusi · 13/12/2023 07:44

It's in the terms you sign up with. You should assume that anything you put on any site will be there permanently.

ANightingale · 13/12/2023 07:46

If you email MNHQ they can delete your content; they won't delete other people who have responded to you.

TheBraves · 13/12/2023 07:47

I think they delete too much as it is, but I would like to see more consistency in their moderation.

Whinge · 13/12/2023 07:48

I disagree. MNHQ are already far quicker to delete posts than they were in the past. All a poster needs to say is they've been identified in real life and poof the thread is gone.

Allowing posters to delete their threads will just give users an easy way out when people are disagreeing with them, or they don't like the answers they're getting.

Yes, wtf is that?

NuffSaidSam · 13/12/2023 07:50

Mumsnet HQ will delete posts if you ask and give a semi-coherent reason. You can't just delete stuff willy-nilly.

Absolutely this.

User2856948 · 13/12/2023 07:53

Is this so you can post crap and then delete it, the site would be even worse than it is if you could do that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/12/2023 07:56

User inspired content?

TheKnittedCharacter · 13/12/2023 07:57

Please explain ‘user inspired content’ 🥴

Prune2024 · 13/12/2023 07:59

People will end up abusing this feature rendering threads fragmented and meaningless.
I like that with the Edit button you can still see the first version.
MNHQ will delete as they 'don't want to make anyone's life harder' but like it has been said here, screen grabs and sharing on other platforms like Reddit, Tattle and Twitter does happen. It's potentially worse when a news outlet reports the story.

Prune2024 · 13/12/2023 08:02

Basically when you post something online, the privacy horse has already bolted. Deletion doesn't mean erasure.

LittleBearPad · 13/12/2023 08:04

MN moderation is already more inconsistent than it once was and far quicker to delete posts that would have been allowed to stand. Ask them why and they send the email equivalent of a tinkly laugh.

DurhamDurham · 13/12/2023 08:06

User inspired content?! It's not Instagram.
If everyone was allowed to just randomly delete their posts, it would be fragmented and utter nonsense. You could cause chaos and then just deleted your 'user inspired content' and leave.

I agree with that. Some posters are very quick to demand a post be deleted, even when they have written worse themselves, and MN just rolls over and does it.

AuntieStella · 13/12/2023 08:33

You don't have to post here is you don't like the T&Cs

I've always appreciated that you need to stand by your posts, exactly as yoy made them.

I preferred the stricter interpretation of that in the past, where MNHQ withdrawing posts was very rare indeed.

Couldn't agree more.

Lifeasiknowitisout · 13/12/2023 08:54

People get stuff deleted all the time

MaggieFS · 13/12/2023 08:58

Is user inspired content just a poncy way of saying "my posts"?

MarjorieTheManager · 13/12/2023 09:01

They do have 30 Days Only.

VisionsOfSplendour · 13/12/2023 09:04

Unfair in what way?

Absolutely. Years ago I posted a grumble about my partner and later asked MN to delete it as I was pretty sure he was going to find it, but they outright refused. Fair enough. Now it would be deleted I reckon.

MNHQ have definitely lost their edge and posters are quicker to take offence than they used to be.

Far more threads are deleted too because of the OP’s concerns about being identified. Usually because they’ve been completely unreasonable and had their arse handed to them.

ilovesooty · 13/12/2023 12:45

Or because "the OP isn't returning to the thread (ie flounced) and we don't think it's helping anybody""
