This gives me all the rage… probably irrationally. Does it you?

I’m on a plane right now (delayed 🫣) and the person across the aisle is my brother…

the person behind is doing this…. Would this bother you? Maybe it’s the delay but for some reason it’s making me really angry 😅

I’m not very tall (and female) but my legs hurt if I’m sat down scrunched up for too long and so I need to do this.
I always try and get an aisle seat for this reason.

I try not to leave my leg out for too long though in case the person in front wants to do the same.

It wouldn’t bother me unless

staceyflack · 08/12/2023 14:07

If I was sitting where your brother is, I'd be uncomfortable if there was a guy behind me sitting like this. I would feel hemmed in... (just the picture has made me uncomfortable). But, I'm aware that's my stuff. I wouldn't mind so much if it was a woman behind me doing the same thing. So, for me it is definitely gender related, and I do agree with another poster, women tend to be more considerate of others, including spacial awareness. I'm not sure why it's bothering you though, OP. Is your brother vulnerable in some way, are you feeling protective? I'm sure the guy was literally stretching.

Fairyliz · 08/12/2023 14:10

No I would just be happy, hopefully flying somewhere away from the bloody rain.
So fed up of being cold and wet with the prospect of four more months of this before there is any chance of okay weather.

VanityDiesHard · 08/12/2023 14:19

There are ways of sitting that are undoubtedly annoying, manspreading being the worst one. This isn't even close to that.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/12/2023 14:25

He's not trying to wrap it around your brother's waist, he's just taller than makes it possible to fit into the seat area without pushing his feet into the back of the seat and his knees around his ears (his upper leg length is equally long). And might have back issues. You'll probably be raging by now about him getting up and moving around, anyhow.

You've no idea if he'll need telling. I do this, but I'm quite capable of seeing when someone needs me to move and acting accordingly.

But you've just seen that poster mention that crew are frequently telling people to move their legs because it's a trip hazard.

So yes, people do often need telling because they're entitled and inconsiderate.

If you've got long legs, pay for extra legroom seats, don't cause an obstruction.

AddictedToBooks · 08/12/2023 14:32

My husband is 6'4 and has to do this. Even I find plane seats cramped and I'm only 5'3.

EvilElsa · 08/12/2023 14:36

People absolutely need telling -I'm a very frequent flyer and it's so often. The person is usually engrossed in something so doesn't twig to be fair -TV, book, day dreaming. Bags/blankets creep out unintentionally too! I totally get why, it must be awful to have long legs and sit cramped up. Seats are ridiculously tight.

DagenhamDanny · 08/12/2023 14:51

I'm over 6ft tall and always request an aisle seat on a plane so I can do exactly this. What's the issue?

8lue8irds · 08/12/2023 15:10

I wouldn't be that bothered and I'm really narky when travelling. What would send me into a blind rage would be if he was fucking about with a tray on the back of my chair though.

PokeAndyInTheEye · 08/12/2023 15:20

Yeah it’s annoying me too, I feel like stamping on his leg and breaking it

Flying does give me the absolute rage though

look at his stupid trousers

spuddel · 08/12/2023 15:31

If this gives you the rage, I dread to think what you're like when bad stuff really happens.

He's just being a human being and trying to avoid getting DVT.

The problem isn't him, it's greedy capitalist airlines trying to stuff as many paying bodies as possible into a tiny space with scant regard for their comfort and wellbeing.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/12/2023 15:37

I wouldn't even be aware of it until the cabin crew staff drag the snack trolley over the foot and then say sorry-not-sorry.
