I’m on a plane right now (delayed 🫣) and the person across the aisle is my brother…

the person behind is doing this…. Would this bother you? Maybe it’s the delay but for some reason it’s making me really angry 😅

I'm guilty of this. I get a lot of pain in my hip if I sit in one position too long. I had no idea it was annoying.

Cosywintertime · 08/12/2023 12:40

That’s not true, I’m female, I’m tall, I put my leg like that on planes, as does my daughter. Plenty of women do it. It’s height related. Not gender related.

In my experience it's mostly gender related. I dont see many women do it.

There are at least three on this short thread who've said they do it. Maybe it doesn't annoy you as much when women do it, so you don't notice?

I can only repeat that I don't see many women do it and I think it's gender related. What three people on this thread say doesn't change that.

SherbetDips · 08/12/2023 12:55

I’m with you op that would annoy me. But Id also remind myself that I’m short and small and have more room in my seat and how awful it must be to be that tall and have no room. And try not to be annoyed. But secret would be very annoyed.

TitInATrance · 08/12/2023 12:57

I have hip and knee arthritis and I do this. Of course I wouldn’t do it if I were in someone’s way, or someone was walking along the aisle. Not going to stop because of the visual impact! People on public transport always find a reason for their moods if they want one.

Wow. What made you wake up and choose violence.

Ah, I'd rather occasional violence than permanent stupid.

Anisette · 08/12/2023 13:26

Floooooof · 08/12/2023 12:34

It probably is unreasonable but it would annoy me too...if I was in your brother's seat I would feel like his foot was in my space. You'd have to step over it to go to the loo. It's like a version of man spreading, though I do get the seats are cramped

I'm sure OP's brother is capable of kicking the foot if it gets in his way. I really can't understand why but bothers OP.

EvilElsa · 08/12/2023 13:29

No, wouldn't bother me.
He will get told to move his leg though as it is causing an obstruction to crew and is a trip hazard. Hear it on flights frequently.

squeekychicken · 08/12/2023 13:31

As long as they move it if someone wants to get up I don't see the issue.

Threepe · 08/12/2023 13:33

I don’t see anything wrong with this , my son is tall he would have to do this to stretch he’s legs not much he can do with long legs I’m afraid ,the person behind is not touching your brother in anyway

LongAndWindingRoads · 08/12/2023 13:34

Feeling very claustrophobic just looking at that photo.
I hate feeling so squashed on a flight, l am tall and it's a nightmare for me.
He is just stretching his leg, it wouldn't bother me.

StrawberrySquash · 08/12/2023 13:37

I do this (female). Sitting in any position for too long is uncomfortable and this doesn't get in anyone's way. I move if the cabin crew need to bring a trolley past because it becomes their space at that point.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 08/12/2023 13:38

Would annoy me if the cabin crew were taking the trolley up and down, or people were walking in the aisle, as it’s an inconsiderate hazard. But if he’s just having to stretch out then let him get on with it now so he can tuck his legs in later.

pictoosh · 08/12/2023 13:39

He's just stretching his leg out? plane seats are really cramped. I'm quite short at 5ft 3 and I do this. I feel like a coiled spring in confined spaces and have to ease it out by stretching.

gannett · 08/12/2023 13:40

Of course it wouldn't bother me. It's not even anywhere near your space. I'd just be thankful that as a shorty, my legs can fit in plane seats.

Reclining passengers bother me much more. Yes, I know they have the right and it's more my issue, but I just feel the small degree of comfort the recliner gains is so much less than the degree of comfort they take away from the person behind them.

I think this is part of why it's annoying, they're so entitled that they need to be told to move their leg, when they shouldn't be causing an obstruction.

I like to cross my legs and when in the aisle seat, this means my foot would be sticking out in the aisle, so I don't cross my legs.

Ploctopus · 08/12/2023 13:45

No, it wouldn’t bother me. As a 6 foot gal I know all too well the pain of crunching your knees for hours!

SawX · 08/12/2023 13:46

Of course it wouldn't annoy me. How weird.

You've no idea if he'll need telling. I do this, but I'm quite capable of seeing when someone needs me to move and acting accordingly.

DavesRaves · 08/12/2023 13:56

I wouldn't even notice enough to give it any thoughts.
I always choose an aisle seat on the left so I can stretch my right leg out like that due to a painful knee condition.
Maybe he has a problematic knee too.

queenofthewild · 08/12/2023 13:58

I had a window seat once and the woman behind kept draping her bare feet across the windows next to my face. An aisle stretch is no big deal.

murasaki · 08/12/2023 14:00

It's not touching you, so no problem
If it were, then that would be an issue.

AMuser · 08/12/2023 14:00

TOTALLY!! The guy behind me did this on a recent flight. Might not have cared but it wasn’t resting on the floor. He’d stretch it up and waggle it continuously in the air. It was so intrusive. The woman in the other aisle seat opposite me was like WTF too. I turned round and said - excuse me could you not do that it’s really intrusive and annoying. He was taken aback but stopped. It’s always men.

Missingmyusername · 08/12/2023 14:01

A bit. 🤣
The tray annoys me more.
