Are things becoming just a little bit shit?

I was wondering if anyone else has started to notice the deteriorating standards in public services and private businesses. I went to London over the weekend, and I was shocked by the filth and litter. I moved to the UK in 2011, and I visited many times before I moved. I do not remember rubbish strewn across streets like it is now. And every place I seem to go gives off a feeling that there simply are not enough staff anymore. Restaurant toilets and public toilets are filthy, it takes an age to be served, and don't get me started on public transport (I read the recent thread on this and agree with every word). It seems to me like the consequences of Brexit/pandemic are really starting to bite, and to be honest, I miss the way it was pre-2016. AIBU, or do others feel the same? And is this the new normal? Disclaimer - I still adore the UK and would never want to live anywhere else!

I quite clearly posted about Starmer's catalogue of lies - not his curry. Why do you think he felt the need to tell so many lies about his evening? Embarrassment? Shame? Pride? Guilt?

Why did the police find that he had not contravened any rules?

Indeed - Jeremy Corbyn is relevant to most threads. Corbyn was photographed breaking Covid rules at least four times - the Met Police issued a statement the first time saying they wouldn't retrospectively fine him

Hark, I hear not herald angels, but the sound of barrels being scraped.

BIossomtoes · 10/12/2023 21:37

I don’t remember seeing any photos of Corbyn breaking Covid laws once, let alone four times.

Jason118 · 10/12/2023 21:46

I wonder how tall @Clavinova is? I reckon a couple more posts and she won't be able to see out of the hole.

No idea and not relevant to my original post.

Pretty important really. We wouldn't want people making statements that he broke rules when he didn't, would we?

Moreorlessmentallystable · 10/12/2023 22:04

Well, a lot of people got paid for doing nothing for months (forlough) so now they feel they are above their jobs and doing the bare minimum...

I didn't say Starmer broke the rules (although he didn't follow the guidance for constituency visits which is a different matter). I quite clearly posted that Starmer only had himself to blame for the media attention he received regarding his evening in Durham - i.e. he told a catalogue of lies about the evening which obviously aroused a great deal of suspicion. The previous poster had claimed he was unfairly scrutinised by the media - I don't believe he was treated unfairly e.g;

Starmer Revises Count Up from 6 to 15 Attendees at #Beergate

Guido spotted a change in Starmer's Durham beer and curry story this afternoon, as he defended the lockdown booze-up on Loose Women. Asked to clarify the

In fact there were 17 people in total, including Starmer.

NewspaperTaxis · 10/12/2023 22:17

I think this thread is now a 'little bit shit' given that it's rehashing the whole rule of 6, who broke Covid rules from years ago thing.

Completely agree. It’s been well and truly hijacked.

The Tory party is a dead party walking

You hope

How ironic that you choose one of the strongest pieces of evidence that the Tory party is a dead party walking to try to refute that fact. No party with any claim to be able to form a serious government would go anywhere near Nigel "I lost seven elections" Farage or Boris "59 ministers resigned rather than work with me" Johnson.

You do have a perfectly good idea. You know it was because he didn't contravene any rules.

How ironic

My post was tongue-in-cheek, hence the wink - although I wouldn't write Boris Johnson off completely from some sort of political comeback in the future.

It's not my fault that some posters couldn't resist chipping in. Time for bed now anyway.

MrsFezziwig · 10/12/2023 23:41

I’ve so missed @Clavinova ’s little pronouncements - unfortunately coming about 20 pages too late to persuade people that these problems aren’t primarily the fault of the Tory government. Yawn.

You did indeed, @Clavinova. What was fascinating was that, for once, you didn't produce a post full of cut and paste quotes, it all came straight out of your head. Some might think you were almost obsessed by it to be able to produce all that stuff without the usual props, I couldn't possibly comment. Whether it was accurate, of course, no-one knows or cares.

No, it's not your fault - but no-one forced you to carry on the discussion with them.

beguilingeyes

Strangely, most of Europe suffered a second wave of Covid - did they all have “eat out to help out” schemes as well?

Then there was Hancock

Didn't the government scientist whose modelling precipitated the first lockdown have secret trysts with his lover against the rules?

But yes, it was the curry that was the terrible thing

I quite clearly posted about Starmer's catalogue of lies - not his curry. Why do you think he felt the need to tell so many lies about his evening? Embarrassment? Shame? Pride? Guilt?

'but Jeremy Corbyn '. JC wasn't even LOTO during the Pandemic, let alone running (ruining) the country so not as relevant as what BJ was doing. Missing the first five Cobra meetings because he couldn't be bothered/was sorting his pregnant mistress out/was pretending to write a book.
Hancock and his 'protective ring' around care homes. The lying shit. Have you seen any of the COVID enquiry? Of course the client media aren't reporting it.
And there may have been a second wave in most places but HOTO is considered to have caused a massive spike in infections. It worked.though, didn't It? Dr Death is PM now. It's his turn at the enquiry this week. Funny how he can't find his phone either.

Aren't all your posts tongue in cheek, winks or not? I have always assumed they are.

Surely no one would seriously defend breaking the law and lying to parliament about it?

DonnaBanana · 11/12/2023 08:15

One thing I’ve noticed is how restaurants aren’t taking more customers even when they have the tables available. I assume this is because there is not enough staff to cope. Thanks to Brexit and minimum wage going up for that.
