Being indecisive about picking the right pram

Pickapram · 03/12/2023 19:31

Posting partly for traffic…

Option 1. Cybex Gazelle S
Option 2. Mama’s and Papa’s Ocarro

The shop assistant seemed surprised and slightly annoyed after we told him we needed to go away and have a think before placing the order! Prams are so expensive and I want to make sure we’re making the right choice.

Now I’m sat wondering which one we go for… does anyone have any experience with either of these prams?

Yabu.

I was the same with my first until she was about 9 months and I realised I just wanted a lightweight stroller so I gave away the very expensive one and got a £100 stroller from Argos.

Honestly don't sweat it, it doesn't matter

Sauvblanctime · 03/12/2023 19:37

I got a full pickle bubba stomp v4 off eBay for £190

it was immaculate, I’m not paying £700+ for something she’s in for less than 2 years

NerrSnerr · 03/12/2023 19:45

Unless you have specific needs (like needs to fold with one hand for using public transport) I wouldn't worry too much. Lots of people make a huge fuss about prams and how they need to cost a fortune but that's all about status symbol. We bought a Gracco travel system in the sale for about £250 that saw us through both kids. If you've got your heart set on an expensive one I'd look second hand and just get the car seat new.

TruJay · 03/12/2023 19:46

I have the mamas&papas Ocarro, I absolutely love it. The only downfall of it is that it is very heavy to lift. I go for long walks and it’s great on any terrain. Baby is so snug and cosy in it.

Would not recommend it for public transport (I drive) as I imagine it would be far too big. I mean, of course you could get it on a bus/train but it isn’t the appropriate choice if you regularly rely on public transport. You wouldn’t easily be able to fold and store it to share buggy space or make space for wheelchair users etc my daughter uses a wheelchair and I wouldn’t be able to fit her in her chair and my baby in pram together on public transport.

Also you don’t have much space in your boot once it’s in there.

It feels very luxurious and is lovely to push.

irw · 03/12/2023 19:49

I got my big pushchair and my travel pushchair on Facebook Marketplace and they've both been great.

If you're worried about parting with that much money, used ones (in good condition) are a great option.

Exactly the same for me. We got to 6 months with the great big pram (it was a nightmare, very hard to manoeuvre). Got a cheap stroller instead, we prioritised ease of movement and collapsability, and we whizz about in it now!

WithIcePlease · 03/12/2023 19:50

If I'd had internet or family, I wouldn't have bought the expensive one I did. Too heavy and bulky and I couldn't wait to be rid of it for a padded stroller that was much easier to handle (about 5months)

lochmaree · 03/12/2023 19:52

also recommend getting one on marketplace then if you don't like it, sell it on and buy another. takes the worry out of it I think! fwiw we had a silver cross pioneer with our first (very well researched!) but I didnt really like it. Had a bugaboo donkey duo with second and loved it but very big and heavy. now have a out n about nipper double and it's fab. all bought second hand for £200 or less.

SunshineAndFizz · 03/12/2023 20:00

I mean this nicely, just pick one and don't over think it.

Rosieposy89 · 03/12/2023 20:03

Mama's & papa's strada is much better than the ocarro. It's more lightweight.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 03/12/2023 20:16

I went cheap for a pram and higher end (still second hand) for a buggy. Used the pram for about 9 months and the buggy for another 3 years.

ConspiracyFeary · 03/12/2023 20:19

All you need is something light weight, has a lay flat option and a seat option, and collapses small enough into the boot so you can still get your shopping in. Ignore the price tags and branding, literally no one cares about that. Function is the only thing that matters. You'll be swapping to a McLaren stroller at 18 months anyway.

Aydahayda · 03/12/2023 20:24

another vote for second hand.

didn’t have one but I really like the look of the Joie Versatrax. .

we got a tank for the newborn stage and regretted it. Then after the Cybex eezy twist (second hand) and it’s comfortable, cabin approved, folds quite small and is lightweight. Also it goes up to 22kgs. V small basket tho.

advantage of the Gazelle is that it can become a double, I think. So depends on what your plans are re second child

Aydahayda · 03/12/2023 20:25

And Lies flat!!

actually I think you can get a carrycot for the Cybex eezy twist. That tiny basket would have been tricky in the newborn days tho. DS was EFF so bottles etc to carry, big basket was very handy

Rtc12 · 03/12/2023 21:30

We have the uppababy vista and love it. As others have said though, it's worth looking for one second hand as you don't use it for long.

Devilsmommy · 03/12/2023 21:36

I've got the Joie chrome travel system. It's lighter than it looks, parent and outward facing and is an absolute dream. Just as nippy as a stroller😁

Also love the Vista. Still using it on longer outings for 3.5yo DC2, it's been in continual use for 5.5 years and never had a problem with it.

We used it with my son until he was 5! Don't know how he fit in, ha!

My 5yo fits too, she regularly climbs in while we're trying to get everyone out the door. Because that's helpful.

kneehightoacat · 04/12/2023 07:22

Go for the cheapest

Porridgeislife · 04/12/2023 07:28

Whatever you’ll buy it’ll be the wrong one.

Our £££ travel system was ditched by 6 months in favour of an Out n About Nipper for all terrain walks and a lightweight travel buggy for town/holidays.

WinterNamechange · 04/12/2023 08:37

Get a second hand bugaboo bee for a small urban pushchair or chameleon if you go off road. Everyone I know (including us) spent £££ on prams for our first-borns and regretted it when we all changed to a lightweight umbrella stroller when the children were around 1.

Summermeadowflowers · 04/12/2023 08:42

Ah, why not?

I was sensible and got a second hand one which turned out to be totally unsuitable. We did get another when DS was about a week old from a baby shop in town and it was an ex display so around £150. It’s nice, it does it job, DD is in it now and I have fond memories of it.

But if I had my time over I’d totally splash out Smile

horsemadgal · 04/12/2023 08:47

Make sure it fits in your car without having to remove seat or wheels.
