Unreasonable batshit neighbours - what have yours done?

Something on another thread (about outside sockets for Christmas decorations) made me think of this.

A couple of years ago my upstairs neighbours (we're in maisonettes) decided to install a plug socket outside. Only it wasn't an actual proper outdoor socket, just a normal socket like you'd have in your living room ... But on a brick wall outside.

It is gone now. But - wtf?!

Assuming I am not BU about this!

But ... now I'm curious - What's the most batshit thing others' neighbours have done?

Ndn demolished 2 foot off the top of the back wall of our listed house...

@Missingmyusername I really want more detail about this!! 😅

Notimeforidiots69 · 30/11/2023 12:00

We moved here in 2016... Immediately, strange old woman next door, with a grey Richard III haircut, pounced on hubby, over the fence at the back, about which, she started pointing out that SHE had had to have that fence put up, because the previous neighbours spent all their time looking in at her! (They're hardly likely to have done that, as they'd have had to spend half their life at the bottom of the garden!!!) She then told him NOT to replace that fence!!! Even though it is actually our fence!!! Other than saying hello and having a bit of a chat a couple of times, I've not had much to do with her... We had visiting jays, who took the squirrels monkey nuts and sat in her apple tree to eat them... It was lovely to watch... I told her when I next saw her and her face darkened...the next day, the big old apple tree was gone... She scowls at me as soon as she sees me and never speaks... But she'll speak to DH!!! Usually to enquire what he's doing!!! Like when he dug the lawn up, ready for the builders to come and flag and pebble it... (The ground was awful and really not big enough for a decent lawn) She popped up over the fence and her first words were "You're not building an extension are you?"!!! I'd actually be inclined to get one just to piss her off!!! She proudly told him when we'd moved in, that she'd heard we'd bought the house outright AND that we'd paid cash... (Although how she knew that, other than talking to the estate agent, I have no idea, as she never spoke to the previous owners!!!)
She's the weirdest neighbour I've ever had!!!

My neighbours are savages.

Their kids drew pictures on my car bonnet with stones and battered the rest of the panels with scooter handles.
They kept a kitten in a rabbit hutch in their conservatory and used to let their children take it out and swing it around by the legs. They had that one removed by the RSPCA.
Currently they have a puppy that I can hear but have only seen once. God knows were it toilets as their garden is inaccessible from the junk.
They also don't understand recycling, so both their bins are full and spilling onto the street.
Oh, and their tumble drier sounds like its going to take off and is on at least six hours a day.

Used my fence and tree to build their brat a tree house, their brat would scream at my kids and my dog. I told them they had 5 days to remove it or I would, they done nothing so my dh took a chain saw and cut the branches off my tree which theyd used for their house and removed their post which they'd joined to my fence, was still attached by their tree as was in-between the trees but couldn't be used. The wife and daughter came round crying that id ruined the daughters birthday present and they were having a garden party for her and everything was ruined.

This is great, but how horrible they sound. So self entitled.

Not me, but people I was a nanny for a few years ago. The family had the basement flat with a guy in the flat above them. He had a leaky washing machine, but didn't bother to tell the landlord about it, his kitchen was above the toddler's bedroom. It must have been leaking for a very long time as one day his floor/toddler's ceiling fell in onto toddler's cot while he was in it. Luckily he had scrunched himself up one end of the cot as toddlers often do at night, so all the huge pieces of ceiling thankfully missed him. His babygrow was soaking wet though, so he must have been dripped on throughout the night. The sight of all that ceiling and the huge hole above the cot was shocking though and of course we couldn't stop thinking about what might have been 😢 My boss was understandably trembling when I arrived at work. But seriously, what kind of idiot doesn't report something like that for so long? Batshit!

Set my car on fire

What ??!!!

changedusernameforthis1 · 30/11/2023 12:15

Years ago I lived in a flat with a neighbour above me. The main entrance door was next to our bedroom, and DS was a baby at the time. Each time they went in or out, they would slam the door loudly and he'd wake up crying.
After a while I wrote them a polite not, explaining how loud it was and if they could please try to close it carefully.
An hour later, the lady who lived there came over, knocked on the door, and when I answered she threw the rubbish from my bin bags out of the communal bin all over me, screamed loudly, and left.

We moved not long after.

If we don’t get to them first, one of the neighbours opens our gate, walks along the long path to the side return and puts our bins out. He’s done it with ndn’s bins for years but started with ours a few months ago.

I wish my neighbour would put my bins out“

You’d think so but I find it quite creepy 😁

Mine brings my bins back if I don't bring them immediately. Sometimes I'm a work call so end up watching her doing and it and feeling like a pleb. I hate it!

Another neighbour claims I burgled her because she once left her front door unlocked. That I steal her parcels, even though I refuse to take her parcels in as she accuses me of stealing them. The most annoying thing she does is come outside screaming at me if I come home when it's dark as she doesn't like my car lights. She called the police about that one, me shining lights into her house 🙄

Zoflorabore · 30/11/2023 12:19

Ok this is awful and I still have to live next door to her-
she takes cocaine and I didn’t realise just how bad her habit was.

she once got some on “tick” where she got it upfront with the premise to pay later and said it was for her next door neighbour ie me! Turns out he was one of the school dads and knew who I was and she didn’t pay him back and he gave me the evils every time I saw him.
she admitted it a year or so later and I’ve never forgiven her for it. Looking to move mainly because of her, she’s a proper nutcase.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 30/11/2023 12:20

Mine are lovely but she sweeps the street. So when all the leaves were falling and it was pissing down she was out trying to clear up.

ladygraine · 30/11/2023 12:22

We have a horrible elderly man, known as Peeping Tom even to the people who actually pass the time of day with him. He and his wife are retired and rarely leave the house, so spend most of their time in the front garden in all weathers looking for people to talk to. They don't appear to do anything and the summer is spent sitting in the front garden watching the houses and passers-by.

It sounds harmless except that it's constant, the watching from behind blinds and curtain twitching, at all comings and goings, and gossiping loudly about the other neighbours at the front of their house, and reporting anything they can think of, from leaky pipes to a neighbour fixing a car on their driveway, etc.

The place will be nicer environment to live in when they're gone.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 30/11/2023 12:22

Our neighbour phoned the council noise complaint team because the noise of dogs barking was driving him mad.

His dogs.

But his complaint was that my cat sitting on the conservatory roof was the cause of the barking, therefore I was responsible for the noise.

The woman from the council couldn’t help laughing when she called me to clarify that he was indeed complaining about his own dogs.

My neighbour does this and I buy him a bottle of whisky every year for being so kind...

Timeforallthecheese · 30/11/2023 12:27

Feeds the seagulls. Won’t stop. It’s bloody awful. Seagulls everywhere come 6 pm. Can’t go in the garden as they swoop/are vicious.

Nanny0gg · 30/11/2023 12:29

RosePetals86 · 30/11/2023 11:43

A bat shit neighbour by me puts near a loaf of bread out a day on his front lawn then pisses off out in his car. So leaves the seagulls/ pigeons to defecate over everyone else’s. He also spends an unusual amount of time lurking by his outside bins in the dark/ frost / rain - you name it. The oddity of the street!

It doesn’t affect me but our next door neighbour is a conspiracy theorist and the whole inside of her house, literally every wall and window, is covered with foil.
I didn’t know as the house kind of faces away from the road, but we went round to see if she was ok after a power cut once and literally every wall was lined with foil.
She also often wears 4 or 5 hats at once, piled on top of each other, but I quite like this idiosyncrasy.

LOL!! That's awesome! Particularly the multiple hats...

Iamnotalemming · 30/11/2023 12:34

Sent me photographs of cat foot prints on their extension roof and complained that I was deliberately allowing my cat to do this. Ditto one cat poo found in their garden. All in an area with dozens of cats and no evidence that these crimes against humanity were caused by my cat.

Same neighbours complained that our cat flap was keeping them awake at night.

Meanwhile they had blazing rows, slammed doors, played various musical instruments badly, had feral children and were generally loathsome to all their neighbours.

OhComeOnFFS · 30/11/2023 12:36

I worked with a woman whose husband had built a wall on the boundary line. From what I remember, he'd built it in the wrong place so it was on the neighbour's wall. The neighbour complained and the husband wouldn't move it. It went to the council, to the court and upwards and he still refused to move it. I think the neighbour knocked it down and the husband rebuilt it. It ended up going to the highest civil court - can't remember the name - and my colleague and her husband lost the case and got a real telling off from the judge.

My colleague was in her sixties. Her husband was much older and had retired - this was obviously his hobby, both the wall building and the neighbour baiting. He'd used up all of their savings with legal fees. He'd refused to move, even though the house was too big for them by then. She had to work beyond retirement age because of their debts.

She told me about it after the final court judgement. I couldn't believe she'd stuck by such an idiot and lost all of her money and her retirement. I remember saying, "But the wall was on their land, then?" and she said, "Yes, but we'd BUILT it by then..." FFS!

TeapotCollection · 30/11/2023 12:41

Can anyone remember the neighbour who tried to extend their terraced house into the shared entry? One of the most batshit crazy things I’ve ever seen on here
