To not pay hairdresser?

startingtolookweird · 29/11/2023 21:20

Had my hair done last week, the result was ok but not really what I wanted, first time I’ve been to that hairdresser and knew I likely wouldn’t go back.

It was cheaper than I thought and I did ask her if that was it and she checked it and said yes (for reference she still got paid £150 for a trim and full head of highlights).

She’s now messaged me to say she undercharged me and I owe her another £100. I just think I didn’t like what you did and it’s her fault she didn’t calculate it properly as it asked her to check the amount 🤷‍♀️

I was prepared to say that of course you have to pay the hairdresser.

But you paid £150, which is a lot of money anyway, and you did ask her to double check.

I’d sent a polite message just saying that you queried the price with her on the day and she assured you that it was £150, you pays what she asked and wouldn’t be paying any more.

Londonrach1 · 29/11/2023 21:24

£250... wow. I wouldn't but I wouldn't pay £150 for this. The question is are you going to return to this hairdresser. ..tbh you left time has passed...would you trust them again to say you own another x amount a few days later. Sounds very strange.

Testina · 29/11/2023 21:25

Also, don’t mention that you weren’t happy, the time today something has passed. The issue here is the payment, and it’s her own paula that she didn’t charge you properly

What do you mean you left time passed?

Are you planning on using her again?

Personally, I wouldn't pay. She told you the price, you queried the price, she confirmed the price.

Friendfoe1 · 29/11/2023 21:27

No, I don’t think you should pay her any more regardless of wether you liked her work or not.

HeckyPeck · 29/11/2023 21:29

YANBU, you paid the price that she gave you. She'll have to chalk it up to experience.

I‘ve been to multiple hairdressers and so I usually know anyway how much they charge in that area. Which is why I originally questioned it - but I have paid £115 before elsewhere so didn’t question it further when I got her to double check.

No way would i be paying any more

Ejismyf · 29/11/2023 21:32

I wouldn't even reply and just don't go back when you didn't like it.

No because I wanted a smokey/ashy blonde and it’s a warm blonde. And I can still see some of my roots. I was going to message her to say I wasn’t happy - in a polite way but she messaged me first.

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 29/11/2023 21:34

I would send her pics of the roots and tell you want a refund for the colour.

I think the salon needs to swallow this - it's their fault. The fact you were unhappy is irrelevant as the time to complain was there and then to give them the opportunity to correct it.

I think it is relevant. If I absolutely loved it then I wouldn’t be that bothered about paying more. But paying more for something you were originally unhappy with isn’t ideal.

How do you undercharge by £100?! Maybe £20/£30 I'd understand but that big a discrepancy would make me think they're taking the piss. Also surely you'd pay right after the service was carried out so how could they not realize they have quoted so low...

beanontoast · 29/11/2023 21:57

If you’re not happy with it you should go back and ask her to sort the toner out, that’s no big deal. Don’t pay for something you’re not happy with. I also think it’s a bit naff not to pay the rest when you knew it was too cheap and she made a mistake. That’s separate to you not being happy and seemingly unwilling to speak up to get it sorted (which you should do even for the cheaper price!)

Elvis1956 · 29/11/2023 21:57

How much. Women being taken advantage of again. How come the most I've ever paid for a haircut is £15 and now I've got very little left I only get asked for £10?

tomatoontoast · 29/11/2023 21:59

I queried the price of £150 for my cut and colour and you confirmed it was correct at the till while I was paying.
I won't be sending more money.

That's what I would reply. Then you have it in writing it was queried and she confirmed the £150.

Assuming you’re in London per your username I find it very hard to believe you wouldn’t pay £150 for a full head of highlights, a toner, a cut, and presumably a blow dry too. I’ve never found anywhere decent in London that would charge less than £150 for that?

£15? Where have you been going, Supercuts?!

Littlewhitecat · 29/11/2023 22:03

If you aren't going there again I'd just ignore it. If you bought something from John Lewis and a week later they contacted you and said you owe them another £100 you would think they were nuts. What kind of hairdresser gets their prices wrong by £100.

scoobydoo1971 · 29/11/2023 22:09

Go on the hairdresser website and check the prices for particular services. If not clear, I would ring the salon and speak to reception. Ask how much the service you received would cost (pretending to be a new inquirer). My concern would be that the hairdresser is trying to scam you into paying more money to her direct account (she maybe renting a chair in the salon as a freelancer). It is unprofessional to ask for more money after the customer has left. As a point of consumer law, the price of the service should be agreed during the initial consultation. There is only a binding contract if the customer verbally agreed to the cost of the service with the supplier, unless there is a contract/ terms stating prices may vary. I go to a high end hairdresser in a South West city centre, and she doesn't charge me anyway near what you have been quoted.

Sorry should have said I am male. And the £15 was a trendy barber in the city centre about 15 years ago. The £10 is average for the middle class town I live in (I am the working class one who every one else can look down on. God I hope you've at least seen that sketch with John Cleese, Ronny Barker and Ronny Corbet)

That still seems cheap even for men! My husband pays £60 for his (admittedly he goes to what I’d call an overpriced hairdresser in the NW but he’s very fussy about what he has). Hair is so expensive these days but I used to pay over £200 in zone 2 London for a balayage, toner, Olaplex, cut and blow dry. In fancy part of NW it’s closer to £150.
