to ask for your symptoms if you've had sepsis?

Hello,

I went to the GP this morning and was diagnosed with a chest infection. Have been given antibiotics.

I am just worried as I feel so unwell and this has been ongoing for over 10 days at the same level.

  • I cannot get warm no matter what I do. I am currently covered in goosebumps and my skin on my arms has a purple tinge to it. I'm thinking this could just be because I'm so cold though?
  • I feel so tired and weak, my muscles are just aching.

The other symptoms are usual of a chest infection, my chest is hurting and i'm coughing a lot, don't currently have a temp (36.1) atm.

I'm just curious on what your sepsis symptoms were? I don't normally get ill like this and it's just freaked me out.

How are you now OP? I hope you're not sitting in a packed waiting room feeling awful but that you've been seen and hopefully have got some proper treatment x

It was a quick onset for me.. I’d had a bout of diarrhea when I woke up in the morning .. 2 hours later I was grey, shivering/rigoring with a temp of 40.4.

Im not sure how to explain this but I just knew it wasn’t a normal illness? I’ve got 3 kids so I’ve had numerous illnesses from them.. however.. this time I felt like I was dying.

I rang 111 hoping they’d tell me to attend ed but they didn’t initially.. just said someone would ring me back. Eventually someone did buy it was to tell me to attend ed as no available clinicians and I’m so lucky that happened as I was taken to resus from triage and my intial CRP on my bloods was 248! I grew some sort of bacteria in my gut that caused it! Still having regular bloods 6 months later as my liver and kidney functions still not back to normal.

Im assuming the GP did a full set of observations on you? I’d be concerned your temp is so low. I don’t think after 10 days of being unwell you’d be silly to seek a second opinion and some bloods!

I hope you feel better soon! 🤞🏽

I had pain in my shoulder, severe pain in my head and neck, swelling in my throat and felt like I had flu.

While I was in A&E, I started feeling like I was sitting next to myself, drifting away.

13 days in hospital, huge pressure in my brain, blood clot in neck and brain and blocking the vein in my arm. High dose antibiotics, morphine and paracetamol.

It caused temporary damage to my sight, and caused permanent vascular tension, tinnitus and a calcified clot in my brain, with extensive scar tissue in my throat and neck.

I hope you don't have it x

Please please please at the least call 111, I lost my DM to sepsis and I have absolutely no doubt that had it been picked up sooner she would not have lost her life to it

Same here, my DM died of sepsis and she had an asymptomatic chest infection. She'd seen her GP only maximum 36 hours before she died and been fobbed off - a simple antibiotic would have saved her life - instead she died alone at home, a perfectly fit and healthy woman who would have had many years ahead.

Anyway, her symptoms before she passed, she'd felt generally unwell for a couple of days but was still functional, she felt a bit feverish and with sickness and diarrhea (sp?). She had stabbing pains in her chest. This was all very sudden. It was only after seeing the GP she went home and took a turn for the worse and died.

This is proof enough that the best thing to do in these circs is ring an ambulance.

If my mother had rang an ambulance and not seen her GP she'd still be alive. The story her GP fobbed her off with was so ludicrous it's laughable, if a person wasn't dead at the end of it.

My dh was extremely ill with sepsis and spent 5 weeks in intensive care. He was generally unwell although he had nothing worse than diarrhoea and cold/flu symptoms before lapsing into a coma. That was a few years ago and he died 4 months ago with another bout of sepsis. This time his symptoms were different although the onset was remarkably fast and he never even made it to hospital. On each occasion he wouldn't have been able to seek medical attention himself as he became ill so quickly.

What’s your normal temp? 36.1 is low but would have been normal for my Mum.

My symptoms

  • exhaustion but I also had a new born so hadn’t had much sleep
  • high temp
  • dizziness
  • not weeing for 12 hours
  • feeling achey

This was me too - post birth.

Add to this tachycardia, confusion, and shivering.

Insheerpanic · 28/11/2023 12:45

How are you @cherryscola xx

Inheritanceconundrum · 30/11/2023 22:51

I keep checking in to see how you are doing. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

cherryscola · 02/12/2023 17:27

Hi,

Thanks for the well wishes all and check ins.

I didn't have sepsis, I did however have fractured ribs from severe coughing (did not even know this was a thing) and because it was affecting my breathing and how deeply I was breathing/coughing, my chest infection progressed badly. I needed to spend a short time in hospital receiving oxygen therapy.

On the mend now (fractured ribs not much to be done, just rest sadly).

Thanks again.

So glad you’re now on the mend and didn’t have sepsis. Still it was a good thing you went and got checked out. Hope you feel much better very soon.

Pixiedust1234 · 02/12/2023 17:35

😯😯

Thanks for the update. Was really hoping the radio silence meant you were in hospital receiving good care. Wishing you a speedy recovery Flowers

EveWinter · 02/12/2023 19:17

Poor you @cherryscola . You will be knackered, make sure you rest properly. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

lljkk · 03/12/2023 12:52

Thanks for update! Alas an adventure nobody wants. X fingers for recovery now.
