AIBU to think that if your HB level comes back at 4.7 the doctor should have done more than give iron tablets?

Hopefully you will get moved to an ambulatory ward soon as A&E is awful.

I've never been offered food in A&E though.. including a 36 hour wait for a bed. I cried when I finally got to the ward and they said I'd missed breakfast and had to wait till lunchtime. Was awful.

Good grief. You'll be short of breath, exhausted, your legs will feel like lead. Please escalate this: I was under 70, and I had two transfusions and discharged on 200mg ferrous sulphate three times a day.

Are you losing blood anywhere ? Heavy periods. You shouldn't be reading this anyway, you should be in a hospital.

I'm in hospital getting blood. Yes I'm losing blood every day. Back end. They don't know why. It's horrendous to be honest. This has been going on for months, and I'm still waiting for tests.

Christ this brings me back . My hb was 4 Easter weekend 2018 and I rocked up to a&e feeling sick. Over 70 units of blood later i still get my bloods checked every month . I hope you’re ok and they find the reason for you

There are situations where this would be reasonable: I've seen toddlers with Hb lower than that, and a very convincing dietary history for iron deficiency anaemia, who have recovered beautifully with oral iron (taken with orange juice to improve absorption). Amazing how the bone marrow really kicks in when it gets the substrate it needs. Unlikely to be a good idea in an adult, however.
