DD just sleeping out of it after nursery today !

I went to pick up my DD at around 5 pm from nursery today. She seemed absolutely fine.

This is the usual time I pick her up.

Anyway she fell asleep in the car at around 5:30 - she doesn't usually, but has done very occasionally.

I usually get her to walk back into the house but decided to carry her and place her on the sofa. She's been in the deepest sleep. I tried to wake her after around an hour and it took a little while for her to be fully awake. Although she was grumpy with her eyes shut for ages while I was trying to wake her up. She was clearly moving and also saying no leave me alone.. that kind of thing.

Anyway I did wake her up, but she was really unhappy and said she wants to sleep. So I let her sleep.

She's still fast asleep. I'm not loving it and feel a bit unhappy about it all.

She had OK sleep last night, although she was up quite early today I guess. She's probably been up since 5ish. That's not entirely unheard of for her either.

We also came back from a European trip on Sunday night. Then straight to nursery all day yesterday and today. So perhaps it's just that ? I'll keep a very close eye on her and sleep next to her tonight of course.

She's almost 4.

She's tired after a busy week. Sounds normal 😊
I'm not sure what your AIBU is? Sorry if I've missed something.

I don't know. I guess I was looking for reassurance. AIBU gets the most replies.

I expect she’s catching up on sleep. This was be unheard of for my son so I’d be worried but if she does nap randomly sometimes then I wouldn’t worry. Sleep with her and you might find she wakes in a few hours and thinks it’s the morning 😆!!

Pineapplestropical · 21/11/2023 20:42

If she's been up since 5am and had a long trip at the weekend then She's probably really exhausted and catching up on her sleep. If it was me I would let her sleep and pray its for the night! I really don't like waking my kids up if they are asleep as i think thier body is saying they need the rest.

Yeah it's really not typical for her but falling in the car after nursery has happened. She then usually complains for a bit when she goes back into the house and then she's normal..
It's likely she'll wake up soon and think it's morning indeed

Also don't get the angst??

Wolvesart · 21/11/2023 20:48

At that age our DC was beyond napping but would occasionally find life soo tiring that he’d fall asleep in the car 5:30/6:00 and basically skip any bedtime routine/supper and sleep til morning.

AceofPentacles · 21/11/2023 20:51

Coming down with something? My (older) DC has been asleep since 4pm as he's got a virus

I don't know, it's just not happened like this before. Doesn't feel great to me somehow.

Oh no, not a danger nap! With one of my sons, if he fell asleep after 3pm then that was my whole night gone. He may have eventually gone back to sleep around 2am if he was feeling generous. He has additional needs though and still can’t switch on the need to sleep. Hope she catches up on all the sleep she needs.

KateyCuckoo · 21/11/2023 20:55

Your phrasing is really weird OP, what exactly is the problem?

PriOn1 · 21/11/2023 20:57

Mine also used to get sleepy when coming down with something. Were you on a plane? The likelihood of picking something up is quite high if so. She’ll probably be fine shortly.

I was just worrying about her and hoping she's ok and it's just tiredness and not anything sinister.

My son never napped and rarely slept all night.
The one day he did this after school he woke up with chicken pox.
Or she could just be really tired!

NorthernAttitude · 21/11/2023 20:59

If your instinct is there's more to it than tiredness, I'd sleep next to them. But it sounds like they're just exhausted and hopefully will have a big breakfast tomorrow after sleeping through dinner.

HungryandIknowit · 21/11/2023 21:01

It sounds like you think they're ill. Perhaps take their temperature when they're asleep, sleep next to them and trust your instincts!

KateyCuckoo · 21/11/2023 21:04

Sinister is a strange way to describe 'poorly' though.

I don't know. Have you just come on here to be annoying or something ?

Maybe it's a regional thing, but I definitely say that. Anyway, give over. It's just a mum worried about her child.

Caterina99 · 21/11/2023 21:13

To be honest whenever mine have been overly tired they’re usually coming down with something. Might not be particularly serious though, often just a cold.

Although 5am start and busy weekend sounds a good reason too for being tired so they could be completely fine!

KateyCuckoo · 21/11/2023 21:17

No actually I was trying to work out if you were implying the nursery had drugged her or something! Which is obviously a very serious allegation...

Starrydream · 21/11/2023 21:17

When my DS was that age he could sleep 15 hours straight without waking, and it usually indicated a growth spurt or he just was exceptionally tired. If you’re just back from holiday then she’s probably very tired or she could be coming down with a cold etc.

If you’re worried just check on her every couple of hours but I’m sure she’s fine.

Oh right. No, that didn't even cross my mind. I very much doubt it. Literally didn't think of it until you just said.

Hope she's ok. I'd be anxious too but I have a phobia of vomit so that's where my brain would go.
Reading how busy she's been I bet she's on catch up

Ah OK, it was just the way I read it then. It's difficult to gauge someone's meaning sometimes.

I'm sure she's fine, probably just exhausted, possibly brewing a cold or virus but she's 3 so tiredness isn't surprising after the few days you describe.
