DD just sleeping out of it after nursery today !

I went to pick up my DD at around 5 pm from nursery today. She seemed absolutely fine.

This is the usual time I pick her up.

Anyway she fell asleep in the car at around 5:30 - she doesn't usually, but has done very occasionally.

I usually get her to walk back into the house but decided to carry her and place her on the sofa. She's been in the deepest sleep. I tried to wake her after around an hour and it took a little while for her to be fully awake. Although she was grumpy with her eyes shut for ages while I was trying to wake her up. She was clearly moving and also saying no leave me alone.. that kind of thing.

Anyway I did wake her up, but she was really unhappy and said she wants to sleep. So I let her sleep.

She's still fast asleep. I'm not loving it and feel a bit unhappy about it all.

She had OK sleep last night, although she was up quite early today I guess. She's probably been up since 5ish. That's not entirely unheard of for her either.

We also came back from a European trip on Sunday night. Then straight to nursery all day yesterday and today. So perhaps it's just that ? I'll keep a very close eye on her and sleep next to her tonight of course.

She's almost 4.

I’d be needing a nap too if I were her! I really don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about, but obviously checking on her through the night might ease your concern.

MouseKeys · 21/11/2023 21:23

She's probably either catching up on lost sleep or about to come down with something, but just to be sure, can you check with nursery that she didn’t bump her head or fall over hard on it today? Hope she’ll be back to normal soon!

I didn't even think of that ! See, this is why I post here- because I just wouldn't have thought of that.

I'm in a bind though, as I can't ask them, as it's obviously closed.

She's probably coming down with something. If it's a decent nursery they should have told you if she had a head bump, so I wouldn't worry about that.

My son used to fall asleep in the car after nursery sometimes and be impossible to wake up - we would stick his favourite TV show on loud and tickle him! But if all efforts are failing I would just sleep next to her tonight and expect her to wake up around 1am ready for morning.

herbygarden · 21/11/2023 21:34

My bet would be getting poorly, probably by tomorrow you'll have a temperature, cold or something else minor and then it'll all click into place. I wouldn't worry, sounds like a big week for a little one Xxx

OP, if you haven't already, slowly, quietly, gently, get her into bed and pray that she goes all night! And get yourself to bed in case she doesn't and you end up with a 3am party!

If you've been away at the weekend travelling and she has been up earlier than normal this morning, she is probably just shattered. Even if she stuck to her normal sleep routine when you were away, it still has an impact. And even a small time difference can be confusing for kids body clocks. Think about how you feel after a long journey - technically you've just been sitting on the plane/train/boat, but you still feel tired.

She might have picked up a bug and need to sleep that off, but then she might just be tired. I really wouldn't worry.

Just get yourself to bed too or you will reap the consequences if she wakes up in the middle of the night!

Chichz · 21/11/2023 21:53

My son can quite regularly do this! He's a little younger at just over 3, but wakes early so would often be asleep at 5:30 p.m. given the chance 😅 That would literally be a perfect 12 hours for him. Annoying if she wakes up hungry but hopefully the exhaustion will push her through. I agree about you getting an early night though, if you can! It's how I always celebrate. Xx

Shufflebumnessie · 21/11/2023 21:53

I can completely understand your concern. Does she have a temperature?
Hopefully she just exhausted and will be back to her normal self tomorrow.

Tumbleweed101 · 21/11/2023 21:55

Was there a time difference when you went away?

Nursery is a long, busy day in itself. If she’s been up since 5am and not napped at nursery on top of a busy weekend I’m not surprised she’s wiped out. I would be too!

If she’s eaten before coming home just let her go to bed as a one
off - especially if she has a long day at nursery tomorrow too.

CyberCritical · 21/11/2023 22:13

It was usually a sign of a virus brewing in my DD, she's always been fine during the day then once nursery/school ends she gets suddenly tired and comes up with a temperature.

Have a feel of her chest and back of her neck to see if she feels warmer than usual, look for signs of a cold, teething or ear infection.

She might just be tired, the darker evenings and cooler weather can have that affect too, but I'd lean towards making sure I have calpol in the house.

angelikacpickles · 21/11/2023 22:23

I'd say she's coming down with something. Sounds very normal for a small child.

Sarvanga38 · 21/11/2023 22:30

Covid from the flight? Have had it three times, and every time I can’t keep my eyes open the day before I see any symptoms.

Melodysmum12 · 22/11/2023 09:06

How was your night and how is she today? X

Thanks for asking!

She woke up at around 3 am, but mainly because her brother was crying.

She was then awake for a bit and I gave her some milk and a snack and then she fell asleep again and then woke up at her usual time around 7ish.

She had no fever in the night and seemed absolutely fine this morning. Full of beans and had her breakfast as usual so I've sent her off to nursery again.

Hopefully it was just a one off and she really needed that sleep.

Poor little mite, she definitely needed that sleep.

Chichz · 22/11/2023 11:54

That's really good news! X
