British Gas engineer swore at me 3 times. I just opened the door and let him out. What rights do I have. He admitted to his manager that he swore. What can I Claim for in compensation.

He was out of order, obviously.

Why would you expect compensation, though?

Sittingonthefence83 · 21/11/2023 10:41

Not sure you'll get money, maybe an apology?

x2boys · 21/11/2023 10:43

Compensation for what?

LoveTheDarts · 21/11/2023 10:43

What monetary lost have you suffered?

billyt · 21/11/2023 10:44

Compensation? FFS. What for?

An apology is what you should get.

Then get a life.

Cherrypie1 · 22/11/2023 09:28

I was shouted at and sworn at. I was hoping for maybe a few months free subscription? Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation

What??? Is your gas on subscription!?!? 🤣🤣

Cherrypie1 · 22/11/2023 09:38

Not sure if u have seen the signs for bus drivers. Check-in staff. Supermarket employees. They do not stand for abuse. I should have the same respect. I did not call the police in this instance. I do expect a refund for my monthly payments. As you are also unable to have a conversation without swearing then please refrain from replying.

I’ve had BG swear at me down the phone too.
I refuse to have anything to do with them.

Maybe her boiler care is and that's what she meant by subscription.

BeenRoundThatBlock · 22/11/2023 09:41

You'll get an apology at the most. Compensation isn't due as you have suffered no monetary loss and nothing is payable under the energy sector's compensation scheme which is for missed appointments etc.

TheOGCCL · 22/11/2023 09:42

I’d change suppliers. I’ve never had anything to do with them since an engineer disconnected the heating at my old boyfriend’s house (for non payment of bills he’d never received) and didn’t tell him. I complained and they gave him £200 but it was a terrible way to do things.

Well you could claim for damages... none
or maybe loss of earnings.... none

If you are lucky you may get a courtesy£10 off your bill, but good luck expecting a "few months free"

Circularargument · 22/11/2023 09:43

Financial compensation? Are you having a laugh?

Was your sign clearly visible?

Unclench, matey. And stop grifting.

What was he there to do?

What was the conversation where he swore?

Deathbyfluffy · 22/11/2023 09:47

You sound incredibly precious. No one on this thread has sworn at you, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that from!

Just follow the complaints procedure to make sure the staff member is dealt with, but you’ve suffered no loss so you aren’t entitled to anything.

You point out that bus drivers etc deserve to be treated with respect, but do you think they get a tenner off everyone that swears at them?
Behave

Mercurial123 · 22/11/2023 09:47

Why did he swear? There's
probably more to this story.

DRS1970 · 22/11/2023 09:54

I had to use British Gas for a commercial contract with my previous work. They were truly awful, and ended up losing the rather large contract. I know the commercial and domestic are different arms of the company, but I have always avoided them like the plague ever since. I understand your upset, but think the best you can hope for is an apology, and maybe a small gesture of goodwill credit on your account. I don't think any monetary value will amount to much more than that.

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/11/2023 10:00

What happened that caused him to swear at you?

Was he annoyed because of the job, or because of something you said?

ParkerPipe · 22/11/2023 10:04

I believe the compo rate is a fiver for every fuck and a tenner for a cunt.

Parky04 · 22/11/2023 10:15

He wouldn't have sworn at you for no reason! I get a feeling from the way you post that you probably pushed a few buttons! FWIW, BG homecover have always been superb when I have needed them. They came out last week within 24 hours after I phoned them for a non urgent matter.

CranfordScones · 22/11/2023 10:29

Out of interest, how much compensation do you think you're due, and how are you calculating it? Perhaps you could engage the services of an insult-actuary to calculate the quantum of affrontery taking in to account the required coefficients of vindication.

Or just take your business elsewhere - something you couldn't do when it was publicly owned. At least a privatised energy sector has that benefit.
