3yo wanting £175 Barbie dream house

DD has seen advert a few times for Barrie dream house and keeps saying she’s going to ask Santa for it. 🙈 I don’t want to get it on the basis I think it’s too expensive (would spend that kind of money on something like a good quality bike) for a load of plastic and also don’t really want it cluttering up my house as it’s quite big.

Anyone with older DC have any clever tips for handling this? I was thinking about saying it’s too big to fit in his sleigh 🤣

So glad I've brought my toddlers x 3 up to be perfectly happy with whatever is given regardless of what it may or may not have cost. Unbelievable to me and mind boggling how you allow your kids to ask for anything and also lie to them in many different ways. Nah not for my wether it's a so called white lie or buying expensive stuff. I prefer the giving of presents that have been bought with pure love and not because they are asked for or demanded. And the joy on little faces when each one is opened not knowing what there receiving and happy with it.

Let's see if you feel the same when your kids are older and your house is full of stuff that was bought with love but will never be used or played with because nobody wanted it.

Wooden toys etc.

Aw! I got one for dd for Christmas too after previously posting here about the LOL house. She absolutely loves it, hope your DD does too! 🥰

OccasionalHope · 26/12/2023 21:46

So glad you found one, I hope she loves it.

My Sindy dolls house was the best present I ever had. Try to put yourself in your child's shoes. Not every purchase has to be sensible like a bike Confused

Santa only brings things that fit into a stocking.

I will NEVER understand joyless mentalities such as this.

I will NEVER understand joyless mentalities such as this.

Santa only brings things that can fit into a stocking.

Parents buy the rest.

If parents can't afford the dream house then they can tell the child that - get a slightly different one second hand etc - harder to say that Santa can't afford it.

Or should people get into massive debt for Christmas?

sleepyscientist · 26/12/2023 22:10

@notmorezoom they literally start at £30 on Facebook Market place. The under 7/8yr olds aren't going to care whether it's new

Wooloohooloo · 26/12/2023 23:36

You can get second hand ones for cheaper but it is a bloody huge plastic monstrosity. Ours is currently rotting away in our dining room. DD got it a few years ago and looks at it from time to time but it's mainly a dumping ground for other toys and junk. Can't wait to get rid of it when she'll let me.
