3yo wanting £175 Barbie dream house

DD has seen advert a few times for Barrie dream house and keeps saying she’s going to ask Santa for it. 🙈 I don’t want to get it on the basis I think it’s too expensive (would spend that kind of money on something like a good quality bike) for a load of plastic and also don’t really want it cluttering up my house as it’s quite big.

Anyone with older DC have any clever tips for handling this? I was thinking about saying it’s too big to fit in his sleigh 🤣

Get one second hand.
Or .
Have DH Barbie one up out of a plainer, cheaper wooden doll's house. Buy a Barbie accessory - like a van to park at the house.
Tough cardboard dolls houses are often great too.
A dolls house is very good value in terms of cost per minutes played and promotion of imaginative play..

As a few have said Marketplace is great. I got my dd an Lol house there with lots of dolls and accessories for a fraction of the price! You may even get what you spent back on it in a few years! I bet your dd will love it, remember back to being a little girl yourself 🥰

There is a Barbie Dream House in my living room 😂

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Merry Christmas @Sunshineandclouds11
Hope your little one is over the moon!! 🎄

So glad I've brought my toddlers x 3 up to be perfectly happy with whatever is given regardless of what it may or may not have cost. Unbelievable to me and mind boggling how you allow your kids to ask for anything and also lie to them in many different ways. Nah not for my wether it's a so called white lie or buying expensive stuff. I prefer the giving of presents that have been bought with pure love and not because they are asked for or demanded. And the joy on little faces when each one is opened not knowing what there receiving and happy with it.

SocksAndTheCity · 25/12/2023 01:48

Might be time for a pint of water and bed, @Ladyj84 🤣

(I would also very much like a Barbie Dream House but I'm not getting my hopes up)

Saschka · 25/12/2023 01:54

EBay bundles. You’ll get the house and a load of furniture for about half that.

Erberts · 25/12/2023 02:55

Just say no and close it down.

bananasstink · 25/12/2023 03:34

I wanted an a la crate kitchen when I was a kid. I never got one. Still gutted about it at 47! I'm so glad she has her dream present!

Inyourwildestdreams · 25/12/2023 03:58

@Sunshineandclouds11 I hope she’s delighted with it 🥰 I also have a 3yo and I can’t wait to see his little face in the morning!

Mojodojocasahaus · 25/12/2023 04:30

Ah! Lovely update. I adored my barbie dream house. Probably my favourite toy of all time.

write her a letter from Santa apologising that it fell off his sleigh over Romania and the elves couldn’t find it but he really hopes she’ll enjoy xyz.

Don’t feel bad, it’s a rite of passage not to get a much desired toy. Do a search and see how many Mnetters have bonded over never getting a Mr Frosty!

Seriously?? Why not Rwanda 😂😆

Pinkchicken85 · 25/12/2023 04:44

Merry Christmas @Sunshineandclouds11 I hope it provides her with endless hours of fun. I’ve learnt to accept the plastic and tat that comes with children, bewildering they love it. Sell it on Vinted In a few years time if it’s still reusable.

Be sure to let us know her reaction!

'toddlers' is a clue here. Once they get to school, they want all sorts.

Hope she loves her dream house! My DD got one last year and loves it. They're only little once!

AuntMarch · 25/12/2023 12:44

I remember seeing this thread, didn't add anything as not been in the position myself but I hope she loved it!

Wonderful news! Merry Christmas 🥰

Kittylala · 25/12/2023 14:59

Same here. I was so worried as we got a different one from lidl. She was ecstatic and thinks it's a Barbie dreamhouse! 😆

Jellycatspyjamas · 25/12/2023 21:58

I love giving my kids they things they ask for, where possible or reasonable, they are bought out of love for them with a wish to see their joy. I also want my kids to know it’s ok to ask for what they would like confident that, where I can I’ll get them it.

When you’ve parented a child who is too scared to ask for anything (even their basic needs) lest their request be weaponised against them, you’ll understand how important asking and receiving things from a place of love can be.

I wanted one of these too! Weirdest advert ever….Swiss roll and beans 🤣🤣

Nineteendays · 25/12/2023 22:07

Happy Christmas! I bet you will definitely get your monies worth! My dd is 8 and got her dream house 2 Christmasses ago and still loves it. It cost a fortune but it was worth it for how much it’s used.
