I’ve just checked what DD needs for cookery tomorrow. 8 chicken breasts!
AIBU to thinks it’s too expensive and too much food?

That’s rediculous! Is she feeding the 5000?

LadyMacB · 20/11/2023 08:01

Eight?? Has she got a side job in the canteen?

ButterflyBitch · 20/11/2023 08:02

Yanbu my husband was saying this the other day. If they put them into groups and got them to pool ingredients it would work out much better. But they don’t do that. Just glad it’s only two terms out of the year that my son does food tech.

idealgift · 20/11/2023 08:02

what year?

wokbun · 20/11/2023 08:02

Why so much! What's the meal? Pure chicken?

wokbun · 20/11/2023 08:02

Send her with 4 and tell her to make half

WhereIsBebèsChambre · 20/11/2023 08:04

8?? Are they pooling their ingredients and she's been chosen/has chosen to bring everyone a chicken breast and the rest are bringing 2 peppers/a bag of rice/tin of tomatoes?!

Deliaskis · 20/11/2023 08:04

That's insane and yes, far too expensive for school cookery. I was impressed with DD's school's approach to this.... Everybody pays £15 at the start of term and school provide the ingredients. It's far better, and means nobody is going a while jar of something when the recipe calls for a teaspoon.

Toomanyblanklooks · 20/11/2023 08:05

It’s a chicken curry, there’s a long list of ingredients and so much of it. Just going to send in half which is still plenty.

That's insane! DS1 is making Christmas dinner in school today (he's doing Nat 5 hospitality- Scotland) and I don't think we've been asked for any money at all. Although they're having 2 turkeys between 12 of them.

The problem is that some would forget or be off sick and they wouldn't have the ingredients

AvengedQuince · 20/11/2023 08:07

Chicken doesn't last that long in the fridge, they really should not be cooking more than four serves, many families are just two.

idealgift · 20/11/2023 08:08

that amount of raw meat with multiple young people on a non professional kitchen environment. No. Thank. You.

Toomanyblanklooks · 20/11/2023 08:08

The week after they are making a cake and the quantities for that seem too small - I think there’s been an error somewhere!

Do the veggie option?

idealgift · 20/11/2023 08:08

what year is your daughter in?

idealgift · 20/11/2023 08:09

screen shot the message Op

are you sure it says breasts?

That's insane! DS1 is making Christmas dinner in school today (he's doing Nat 5 hospitality- Scotland) and I don't think we've been asked for any money at all. Although they're having 2 turkeys between 12 of them.

This is because schools in Scotland have been told they are not allowed to ask parents for any contribution towards Home Ec classes, whether compulsory or voluntary.

This means that our school has stopped offering things like cake craft as the ingredients are too expensive.

yellowlane · 20/11/2023 08:10

Is she working as part of a bigger group where others are bring other ingredients? Either way 8 chicken breast js about £10. That's far to expensive.

Lochness1975 · 20/11/2023 08:10

That’s insane. I don’t use that much for curry for 4!

PuttingDownRoots · 20/11/2023 08:11

I moan to DH about randomness sometimes but at least the volumes are sensible! 300g of chicken for example

MidnightOnceMore · 20/11/2023 08:11

I would also do the vegetarian option.

WhatNoRaisins · 20/11/2023 08:11

How many people does that claim to serve?

weebarra · 20/11/2023 08:12

I didn't know that @Stroopwaffels. We certainly paid in the past. DS1's school does do cake craft but that's really sad if schools have stopped. It's not something they're likely to use their PEF money for is it?

Toomanyblanklooks · 20/11/2023 08:12

@idealgift definitely 8 breasts!

Not part of a bigger group unfortunately.
