I just made a miserable AIBU so here's a less heavy one:

I really want to put uo the tree because it's pretty :,) is it too early?
(It's fake, 7foot and has fake now and berries 0<0)

My neighbour put hers up 3 weeks ago.... if it makes you happy. Why not?

Travelismything · 18/11/2023 22:07

I don’t see why not. 2020 I put mine up for the whole of November because it made me feel better

blibblibs · 18/11/2023 22:07

I always put mine up on the 1st Dec but DH has said he's surprised it's not up already. I'm not sure why, but it seems reasonable that I get on with it now 😊
Will get him to bring down the boxes from the loft tomorrow and make a start, we have three trees this year so it might take until the 1st anyhow!
And they stay up as long as possible, sometimes it's been February before it's all packed away.

SerenaBeans · 18/11/2023 22:13

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

I cant argue with not putting it up when my two year old is going nuts over baubles and putting it up :,]

Each to their own, I say! <3

Ours went up today and I'm glad of it, the house feels lovely and festive!

autumn666 · 18/11/2023 22:37

Put ours up today and watched our first Xmas film, it's lovely and twinkly in here now 😀

JockTamsonsBairns · 18/11/2023 22:43

Of course you're not being unreasonable. It's entirely your choice and, if it brings some joy, then why not?

It's not my personal choice. I'll put mine up around the 15th of December, because that's what feels best for me.
But, that's the whole point - you can stick to your own personal choice. It's not affecting anyone else!

jemenfous37 · 18/11/2023 23:05

it's the 18th November ffs

PumpkinFence · 18/11/2023 23:09

My Facebook feed seems full of people putting theirs up today. I think we all need more cheer. I think ours will go up soon, will dig it out the loft.
If it went out tomorrow I would not be sick if it by 6th January. I need fairy lights.

SerenaBeans · 18/11/2023 23:29

@jemenfous37
I know what the date is, trust me.. that's why I was asking. But in the end I decided after some sad times it would bring joy to my family, specifically my 2 year old- so at the end of the day I don't care what the date is(aslong as its not still October etc, which is when my adjacent neighbour put hers up )

Fair enough, @SerenaBeans ! I'm sorry life have been sad for you and family.
Hope things improve very soon
retreats quietly

HouseNoMore · 18/11/2023 23:51

I always put mine up on the day of the Christmas parade in my town, which is tomorrow. However we got home today and my kids saw our neighbour had put theirs up so guess who spent the afternoon relaxing while letting the children go to town on the tree? 😆

Winwit · 19/11/2023 00:24

Of course your tree should be up… in the loft, where it belongs until December.

DuplicateUserName · 19/11/2023 00:28

I think you should go for it but I still voted YABU because there have been a ridiculous amount of these pointless threads in the last couple of weeks.

Your house, your tree. Do what you want because why would you let randoms on the internet influence your decision anyway?

It doesn't affect our life but it brings joy to yours 🤷‍♂️

SerenaBeans · 19/11/2023 00:32

@DuplicateUserName
I'm new to mumsnet, didn't think this was a pointless ask. And seeing that the voting is nearly half and half, clearly it is something worth asking.

@onlyconnect
I wasn't allowed to celebrate Christmas as a child due to being a Jehovahs Witness growing up... so I would love it the same as the day I put it up. Also I have kids. They also love it.

@Wasjumpking
Haha I don't think so! My mum doesn't celebrate xmas

To be fair, the voting could be that way because a lot of people will vote YABU for asking it.

Just do it and enjoy it.

Mine's going up next weekend because I've got a couple of days off work, so I can give the house a good deep clean before dragging the decs out and taking the plunge.

We do go a bit overboard with decs here. They take around 5 hours and at least 1.5 hours of that is just the tree Blush

CallieQ · 19/11/2023 00:38

Way too early

SWSO · 19/11/2023 00:39

Um I think December the first. December is the Christmas month

SerenaBeans · 19/11/2023 00:40

@DuplicateUserName
Aha, I did my cleaning yesterday! I'm heavy and pregnant and I was so done with it after, I'm glad it's done.

I wasn't trying to be mean with my response, by the way, just factual. I hope it didn't come across as rude at all.

I've never done tremendous amounts with decor.. I might go a little more out this year for the fun of it :]

OP posts:
SerenaBeans · 19/11/2023 00:41

@SWSO
Beginning of December is birthday periods for me, and family are over next week who we won't see until new year again, and the two year old loves it.

I like to think im justified :,)

OP posts:
DuplicateUserName · 19/11/2023 00:45

I didn't think you were being mean!

I'm just a firm believer in doing what you want if it brings you and your family happiness, and doesn't affect anyone else.

I'm lucky now that my 'kids' are adults but two still live at home and will be helping me, while I bark firm orders and go round straightening everything 🤣 🎄🎄

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 19/11/2023 00:54

If you won't be tired of it by Christmas why not.
