To ask if you have this horrible “cold”?!

I can’t remember feeling this unwell in years! So blocked up I can’t breathe, sinus pain, aches all over, so weak and dizzy, could happily sleep all day! Only a slight cough on and off, but I can’t get hold of Covid tests anywhere locally to rule that out, but I’ve never knowingly had it so can’t even tell if that’s what it feels like.

Im in NI if that makes a difference, have you had this recently or know people who have? Seems rife here and worse than a basic cold, the exhaustion and lightheaded feeling are next level!

I actually wonder if it is just a basic cold but because of pandemic times my immune system has forgotten what getting sick feels like at this point

Have it now - initially tested negative for COVID but when I started losing my taste yesterday I tested again and was resoundingly positive - in some ways it makes no difference what it is, I'd already cancelled lunch with friends, gym etc - won't go to the supermarket unless I absolutely have to - but it's interesting to know and makes me feel better about cancelling some work visits next week.

I've had the cough, cold, aches, dizziness, so much weariness and I've been trying to plough through, work busy, demanding child ...

I hope we're all feeling better soon. Trying to console myself that at least I should be healthy at Christmas

Slitheringheights · 19/11/2023 06:39

Same symptoms and I tested positive for covid. Took a few days to come through as positive though.

DelusionalBrilliance · 19/11/2023 10:31

I’m genuinely sorry so many of you are struggling too, this is utterly miserable.

Day 7 and I’ve woken up the worst I’ve felt since it started, when will it end 😫

First time in my adult life I’ve cried because the aches were so sore! I think I’m probably just a bit worn down by it in general now and overly emotional with the lack of proper sleep and feeling so wretched. But gosh it was super painful when I woke up, painkillers just starting to take the edge off now.

I had this for a bout a week but think it's finally gone 🤞

UnRavellingFast · 19/11/2023 12:28

my ears stayed blocked for weeks after the rest of me was better, they’re still not back to normal. What a rotten bug it is- I hope everyone starts to feel better. I took maximum ibuprofen and paracetamol on a schedule throughout which helped a bit but boy was it a crappy ‘cold’

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/11/2023 12:46

I have it. I am negative for covid, and in any case I had it a couple of months ago.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/11/2023 12:51

The tests aren’t as reliable with the newer variants. Even a year ago it took me until day four to test positive on. Flowflex test and I wasn’t positive on the Tesco tests until a week in. If I had only done one or two tests I might have thought it wasn’t Covid, until it dragged on for months and months.
There is also flu around though, and a nasty chest type cold. I agree with a pp on drinking Sambucol to ward off viruses.

SheepBeepBeep · 19/11/2023 13:01

DH, DS and I had this. All with awful dizziness, heavy cold and cough, muscle aches and fatigue. DS and I tested positive but DH never did, despite testing several times at his work’s request. We assume he also had covid but the tests didn’t pick it up. I’ve just started a new job and over 50% of the staff room was empty a couple of weeks ago as they all got picked off one by one with covid. I’ve still got a bad chest a month on, but hopefully that’s us done covid-wise until Christmas now!

Sunshineguy · 21/11/2023 04:54

In a couple of years it will be accepted knowledge that Covid has harmed our immune systems. It depletes dendritic cells which are the key defence against RSV. Result? Kids who have had Covid are more likely to get RSV. It infects CD4 cells in the tonsils. Result? Kids who have had Covid are more like to get strep A. All this information has been published in scientific journals. Just Google it.

The idea we're suffering immune debt 2.5 years after freedom day is insulting people's intelligence.

PeloMom · 21/11/2023 04:59

My kid has one of these and has been going for a third week now slowly improving. It’s not covid for him. Just a nasty RSV.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 01/12/2023 22:24

Strangely reassuring to join you and know I'm not alone. 3rd qeek off work .. the minute I I anything, I get pay back and feel exhausted and increased sore throat, coughing, achiness. When it started I though just a cold, but with stomach pains, headaches and a few other symptoms... I suspect its a new strain of covid, but it's not showing or being talked about. I jsut sleep and lie on sofa. Very fed up and feel wierd tp potentially take more time off qork, but I also think I wouldnt manage a day at work the way I feel at the moment. How long is it going to last tho? Good to see it does go away eventually for some of you on here.

I had Covid. I'm still ill a month on. I haven't felt this bad since I had proper flu/ pneumonia 15 years ago.

Started with sneezing/ runny nose/ headache/ nausea/aching all over/ cough. Symptoms stopped after 2 weeks but I'm left with extreme tiredness and just feeling ill. I'm in bed half of every day, on the sofa the other half. I'm really fed up with it.

Snap. I tested positive 18th October, was really properly poorly for 2 weeks but even now still have the cough, tiredness and throwing occasional high temperatures.

Onand · 01/12/2023 22:59

I think we need to start being mindful of this ‘walking pneumonia’ issue which is picking up in China and other places. I have a feeling it’s another a covid wave interspersed with the pneumonia. Immune systems will be utterly fucked up.

Ange1233556 · 01/12/2023 23:02

Yes! Been feeling awful for 2 weeks now, so much snot it’s insane. Cough and sore throat and so tired. Tested for covid few times and nope. To be honest does just feel like a bad snotty cold but I swear pre Covid I would have shook it off after a couple of days. It’s really lingering

That's what I think and thought... id be back at work by day 4 maybe.

SpongeBob2022 · 02/12/2023 08:00

All three of us have had a cold. I would say a 'normal' cold for the first week but while DS then recovered like you'd expect, DH and I both got worse at that point in our 'weak spots'. DH's went to his chest and mine to my throat. My throat is now a lot better but honestly it feels like I'm never going to get rid of the bunged up nose. I generally have a great immune system but this has really knocked me. It's the weirdest cold I've ever had with symptoms seeming to switch round a lot...one symptom will get a bit better and the other worse....then it'll switch again.

DelusionalBrilliance · 02/12/2023 16:11

Update for you, I started to feel better only a few days ago, partner is still miserable with it and it’s on his chest. The office is still rampant with it and so many off last week we were sent home early as no point us being in because so many were off we couldn’t realistically do our jobs. Shocking how bad it is this year.

Hope you guys turn a corner soon x

Glad you’re feeling better! I just still can’t shake it.. since September now and I’m still congested / snotty. Plus, I’ve blown my nose so much that I’ve split all the skin inside it (which scabs, splits again the next time I blow my nose, and just won’t heal). Feel like my immune system is shot at this point.

MPY24 · 02/12/2023 16:23

I honestly think every year some people come down with all viruses and say how they've never felt so bad or they've never lasted so long. These days everyone just says it's probably covid or the reason we feel so bad is because of previous covid. But I promise you people were complaining of exactly the same issues since before covid happened.

Since last weekend, I've had something that I can only describe as being like a snot-free cold. I have a sore throat, earache, muscle aches and pains, slight cough, very painful gland on one side of my neck and feel absolutely knackered. Just like a cold, but no runny nose or sneezing.

It's not Covid, I've tested twice, but I actually feel considerably worse than when I did have Covid.

The last time I had a sore throat this painful was over 50 years ago, when I still had tonsils.

This is me Sad two weeks of sore throat pain and head congestion. Now awful ear ache. Kids have been coughing for weeks and we all had covid back in September.
